Night 14: Toronto

88940025_blog.jpg

Guy seemed to think that last night at Massey Hall was the band’s best performance to date, so you must be feeling full of excitement if you’re going along for Toronto’s second live helping of the platinum-selling – yes, that’s right – ‘On An Island’ this evening.

Sales of David’s new album in Canada have been extraordinary. Congratulations to David, and thank you to all the fans who made this feat possible.

As always, we want to hear from you. Your thoughts and opinions make this blog what it is, so don’t be shy. If you’re going to be at tonight’s concert, let us know.

As always, the setlist will be revealed amongst all your comments, so if you don’t want to know what was played, please don’t read on.

Have a great night, everyone.

    Fed,

I am going to see David in San Fran and I was wondering what I should do if I’m surrounded by these drunken idiots, which seems to be quite a problem. As I musician, and flying from Denver to see him, I hope I will be able to enjoy the show without distractions. I was thinking about maybe bringing a mini squirt gun, and taking down anyone who talked during the show.

    Hi

Just winding down tonight from living and working in NYC. We (my son and friend) were fortunate to get tickets to Radio City for the April 4th show. Before the show we were asked to leave Sbarros under RCMH because of our theological and economic discussions that included the importance of Christ mysticism. That is the experience of not being alone in our thoughts. The stuffed pizza was very good. The concert was wonderful. The band sounded beautiful. Thanks to Crosby and Nash for singing for us. Phil went to a very happy new sound in Domino.

    Thank you all very much,
    Steve, Bob and Jeff

For those going to the show tonight, have a great time! I truly hope it’s as enjoyable for you as it was for me last night. You’ve got a great night in store for you.

ALL THIS “”states”‘ Razamatazz reminds me of 1977

Sitting on the 10 yard line of Soldier Field next to this large rope attached to a giant pink pig and David comes out and sound checks his gear.

A generally half crocked fellow yells out “boogie”. David smiles wryly and breaks into the up tempo end part of Free Four which is basicly boogie-ish and the guy yells yeah!! and falls over.

I thought to myself oh lord is this the end of the innocence? No more will we be able to quietly enjoy Floyd playing Set the controls to the heart of the sun, Cymbaline or Echoes without some moron yelling ” Money!! come on you owe us!! then barfing himself. Sounds like some of the posts ive read in the past few days..LOL!!!

Oh well I guess knucleheads will be knuckleheads.

Thank you for OAI, doing thses dates and returning to your roots for us old floyd people!!!!

I just refitted my red Strat with the DG20 Pick ups it sounds beautiful now, no more buzz.. Early on was thinking of bringing my old pick guard for Dave to sign on the 12th and set it next to my signed drum head of Jerry Allison, Buddy Hollys drummer, but after the New york Madness and all the Ebay crap.. Im just goona leave it home. I think the True fans will just apreciate the great music and seeing Echoes again!! See you guys Tuesday, Quite excited!!!!

Shouldn’t be a problem seeing the show’s in Oakland.

    Ok. I’ll get my coat.

well F’ed and everyone here in blogville . .

this time tomorrow I will be in my car – heading west to Chicago (wow . . . I’m gonna need sunglasses . . ). . . . for my turn at the altar.

    I’ve been to ‘the church’ . . . 8 times in the past 30 years (holy crap . . . that makes me kind of old . . . ay . .?) . . . but this time . . . this time I’ll be sitting in the front ‘pew’.

    I too excited to even know what else to say . . . . . . so . . hell with it . . . I’m going to get packed !

see you on the other side . . . .

Some musings from the Sunday night show…

    Sound Quality

I was sitting RSF row K just under the balcony and this location unfortunately made for a lot of bass and drum bottom end. Great for a reggae concert, not good for David’s. It was tough at times to get some of the nuances of the music.

    Yobbos

Luckily there was only one slightly bad one on my side of the floor. Overall I was really surprised how quiet the audience was during most of the show. Even during the encores there was no surge to the stage as there usually is at the end of rock concerts. As Wish You Were Here started everyone sat back down!!! Gotta love us polite and reserved Canadians ;-)))

    The Concert

I was really only interested in hearing two songs in particular before I walked into MH. They were Wot’s Uh the Deal and Echoes. Now I can hear the hue and cry already…why don’t you want to hear blah blah blah or so and so?? Well here is my take on song choice. I do love all the big Floyd heavies, the usual suspects I call them like WYWH and SOYCD. But admit it folks they have been played to death live. I wanted to hear something a little different from David this time and while Echoes has been played live a few times it has nowhere near hit the saturation point with me.

Both songs were very good. In fact when he played Wot’s I almost got teary. I was very afraid that with all the set list tinkering going on I was not going to get lucky to hear it…but I was. In Echoes, the last few minutes were the best with David and Rick playing off of each other just like the old days…you could almost see the years peeling away.

Most pleasant surprise was Fat Old Sun. I was never a fan of Atom Heart Mother but this version of the song caught me off guard for its sumptuousness…very very nice indeed.

The first half of the concert…hummm well to be polite there were a few ok bits but I would have to agree with Rudders that things in places could have been tighter. I thought there were a few miscues, blips and slight delays here and there right through the concert.

During the first half, I began to lose interest and this is by no means due to the softer nature of the music. In fact a lot of PF music is mellow and quiet and many of these songs are my fav’s. I just think that it dragged and I don’t think I was alone in this regard.

The second half was far better helped immeasurably by those 3 songs that I mention above.

Let’s face it most of us were there to hear the second set and not the first and this will always be a conundrum for David. I was no exception to this. Floyd member’s solo work will almost always pale to group work at its peak. They are not as good individually as when they work together as a solid group.

I think perhaps David realizes this…I maybe wrong. The overwhelming feeling I got Sunday night was one of goodbyes in both directions…Unlike the Rolling Stones, he realizes that there is a time to quit while you are ahead…

    Cheers, Howard

Greetings! I cannot wait for the shows in Los Angeles that I’m attending. Just a quick question. I’ve seen pictures around the net of various shows (particularly in Europe). Were cameras allowed at these shows but are not being allowed at the American stops?

    Just a few more days!

    -K

[Well, they weren't - and still aren't - allowed at any venue... - Features Editor]

    Rudders,

Sorry I missed you Sunday night. I sent you an e-mail today (Monday) to you but looks like you took the day off. We got to the HRC late and there was a line up to get in so I hoped to hook up at MH..Guess what we didn’t :-(((

    Cheers, Howard

  10. Holly Moore

Hello everyone…I’m headed out of Georgia tonight for the road trip of my life to Chicago for the April 12th show! Reading through the blogs just makes me more excited and I can’t wait to be present when Echos and High Hopes is performed!…so…please keep them on the set list! As soon as I return I will be more than happy to give you guys a review which I’m sure will be excellent! Hopefully the Chicago audiences will behave themselves so that everyone can have a great experience. I wish everyone safe journeys as the tour moves on. Thank-you!

  11. Erin

Have fun tonight all of you going to the show! One week until my stay ‘On an Island’ in Oakland. The excitement is killing me.

I just want to thank David and who ever else decides the venues for the tour. To making 2 stops in California is fantastic. I’m glad all of his Northern California fans were remember with a 2 night stop in Oakland.

Look for me about 6 rows back, I’ll be wearing a shirt so that all will know I’m a blogger. I’m planning on getting there extra early, in hopes of getting an autograph, or taking it upon myself to be security and poke some ‘out of hand’ fans with my pokey stick. I’m crossing my fingers that all will be calm and I can get an autograph or photo.

    ~Erin

PS – Deborah, you are a fantastic artist!

  12. Tara

    Fed,

Do you have any idea who David’s children like musically? I am wondering if they frequently subject David and Polly to boy bands, Britney Spears, or Lord help us, Mariah Carey in the home.

    Tara

[I have no idea, Tara. You've got me worried now, though! - Features Editor]

  13. BC Australia

Good Morning (well it is here anyway – Australia). Just a quick post to see if you are planning on touring Australia in the future? I am sure there is quite a population “down under” awaiting the dates.

Love the CD – constantly on.

    Cheers and thank you

  14. Scott Nase

Congrats on platinum David! See we do love your music here in Canada! Just so you know, I’m personally responsible for about 20 or so sales of your record (seeming how I can’t seem to shut up about it! Also I’ve played it everyday at least once through since it came out March 7th). Hopefully we’ll see you in Western Canada again…someday! Thankfully I just found out the Red Hot Chili Peppers are going to visit this summer, so I’ll have at least one other show to fall back to in the meantime.

Cheers David, Scott (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) ps – I so wish I could be in T.O. at Massey Hall tonight!

  15. RJ

Massey Hall, Toronto Sunday Night- what I call a three hour private party held by David with 3000 of his best Canadian friends. This was a Gilmour audience like I did not expect with a standing ovation to welcome David back to Toronto that could have lasted a half an hour. It was clear David and the band was into it as much as the crowd. David put on a guitar clinic that surpassed anything I could have imagined or hoped for. On An Island which plays on my Ipod perpetually was delivered brilliantly and would have satisfied me if he had stopped there. But no, David had a special evening in store for his Canadian fans and performed his favorites and mine encompassing a wonderful cross section of the 30+ year repertoire of Pink Floyd. David BRAVO! and nice sax work! Great to see Richard Wright where he belongs alongside David. Hope you had the DVD cameras running at Massey Hall Sunday night.

  16. John

    Fed,

Perhaps you can help me. Though still young (23), I consider myself a late-bloomer as a Pink Floyd fan having listening to DSOTM as a freshman in college – and being blown away by its delicate brilliance and David’s transcendental style. His mastery is ever-so-evident throughout OAI. As always, his solos are laid out with beautiful precision and the music is wholesome and lasting.

Try as I may, I have been unable to locate a ticket for either of the Chicago shows. I play along with David on “The Blue” and “On an Island” every night, hell I sing along to OBC and TDB to and from work, but like anyone else would much rather see him perform the real thing.

Oh, wise and fair Fed, can you help me?

(Really not trying to come across as selfish, just that passionate about the music – best wishes to all attending the remaining shows!!)

    Cheers,
    John in MadTown

[I wish I could, John. The Ticketmaster people are the only ones who can help - unless you're willing to pay a broker a crazy sum, that is. But there is hope, because several people have snapped up returned tickets. Keep trying and don't give up until the concert has started. Good luck. I hope you'll be lucky. - Features Editor]

I don’t mean to start anything here, but it says on the front page that the Canadians didn’t get gold in curling, well thats not true at all, the Canadian team team took the gold in Torino. Not that iam that into curling anyway, but as a Canadian I wouldn’t want anyone to take their glory away.

I wish I could have gotten tickets to see Gilmour in Toronto, But by the time I got through they were all gone, Hope he has plans to tour Canada again. Hope everone has a good time.

[My apologies, Mark. I didn't write it, but I will pass the message on. - Features Editor]

  18. Joseph Morse

I would think that OAI would be multi-platinum by the end of the year. Can anyone answer me this? What drives the R.I.A’s figures when it comes to gold or platinum status? It never seems to be an accurate estimate according to other figures.

[Well, to achieve platinum sales in Canada, you need to shift 100,000 units. For platinum status in the US, you need to shift 1,000,000 units. Canada has about 5% of the USA’s population, of course. - Features Editor]

  19. Scott Goldman

I just saw that OAI went platinum in Canada on the home page. I just wanted to correct that platinum mean 1,000,000 albums were sold, not 100,000 albums. Diamond means 10,000,000 albums were sold. Pink Floyd has 2 diamond albums, the Wall (double diamond) and Dark Side ofcourse.

[It's 1,000,000 in the US, but 100,000 in Canada. Canada has a much smaller population than the US. - Features Editor]

  20. Joseph Morse

Nice pic of David. I tried to come up with a caption but couldn’t think of one. I like that he’s taken up the sax. Think of it. The guitar and the saxaphone were probably the most maligned and belittled instruments in past history. It’s nice to live at a time where they have such an elevated status and artists like David bring out the best in both.

Hey PJ! Why not a tazer? (just kidding). You don’t need a permit to have one. (or maybe a mini blow dart or sling shot) Seriously, though. It seems like every time I go to a concert or a movie there is some tweeker there to make the evening miserable. After going to many concerts and shows I’ve realized that this is no strange coincidence. There’s one (or many) in ever crowd.

I usually try to attend at least one concert or show a year. I would have loved to see Dave Gilmour but could not. Hopefully the plans for the DVD will materialize.

I’m going to the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie to see Steve Howe tomorrow. I really hope that there are no unappreciative mooks there to spoil the evening.

Caption Contest (Just for you Madcap Two Fat Ladies)

The wreck of the Nautilus had been found and the remote controlled underwater camera panned along the hull of the submarine when suddenly the camera operator gasped at his discovery…

  22. Paul

PJ, If one were to encounter a “drunken idiot” its best to ignore them. Don’t take the chance of missing any of the show.

Yes @ RCMH many were back and forth getting drinks or whatever. And certainly to many whoops and hollers at the wrong time. Still it was a great show and one I will always remember.

Thanks Dave, Richard, Guy, Phil, Jon, Steve & Dick. You guys are the best!

  23. madcap88

again the myth of the drunken idiots at Massey Hall.

It wasn’t that bad. Rudder was behind a woman who danced because she remembered being sexy twenty years ago and that must have been annoying for him. I could see her from my seats on the floor and I wondered why someone didn’t push her off the gallery. There was some shouting, but nothing out of the absolute ordinary. And as I said in my last post, the shouting at the concert was less irritating than the stupid caption contest postings here.

It was a fantastic concert last night, and if you don’t buy that, re-read Guy’s post.

  24. Mark

Druken idiots! I fear the crowd in Chicago may have its fair share of drunks.

David, please bear in mind most of us will be polite and respectful.

In 99 Roger had to tell the idiots to shut up and listen at one point in the very same venue.

Neil Young on his last show at the Rosemont said phuck you to an idiot who would not shut up.

TWO DAYS UNTIL THE OAI TOUR ARRIVES IN Chicago! THANKS!!

i was at the show last night. it was the best show i’ve ever been to. the band was very tight, and everything sounded and looked amazing. we were very close and had an excellent time. thank you so much. a full review coming soon. but the echoes, and fat old sun, wow. everything was amazing. and the band really seemed to be having a great time. the crowd was very into it, and uh…yeah wow. wow.

All the shows so far have sounded spectacular, and I am praying and hoping I will still be able to go to Chicago THursday. My friend who is going with me may not be able to go now, her husband has been ill and hospitalized for the past few weeks. He is home now but she’s not sure about leaving him alone as we are in St. Louis, and Chicago is a few hours drive, so we’ll see. Of course I still want to go, but as much as I love David, her husband’s health comes first, so I’m in limbo now. Keep your fingers crossed for me please, as seeing this show means so much to me!!!!!

    Hopefully seeing you Thursday,

    Love,
    Elizabeth

I hope everybody in Toronto is enjoying the show tonight.

Not to take the focus off of our friends to the north, I wanted to pass on some info regarding the next destination of the tour: Chicago

Reading previous blog comments there are folks across the US and other nations coming in for the shows. So for those folks and for the Gilmour family, Wright family, rest of the band/crew and their families, and yes even you features editor I’ve put together some sites, places, “things to do” while in Chicago.

There is a ton to do in Chicago but here’s a few key places that you may want to see…

-Millennium Park, brand new park downtown on the lakefront. It is fantastic. “The bean” and the interactive fountain is right out of a Storm T. album cover.
-Museums/Art, on the lakefront there is a museum campus that is great, but I would suggest the museum of science and industry. Its the lone structure remaining from the Columbian exposition of 1893. Interesting for kids and adults. They have a Di Vinci exibit starting, the only fully intact U-boat from WWII, “the body” exibit, etc…Chicago’s art museum downtown is very good.
-Navy pier, a lot of fun stuff for the family. There are boat tours from the pier to see our gorgeous skyline. There are also architecture boat tours along the Chicago river.
-Regarding music, if you get in a day before the shows, there are a lot of options but Chicago is known for the blues. Buddy Guy’s place is cool. Kingston Mines or the Checkerboard club is great as well. If blues is not your thing, there are many, many other places to hit.
-Clubs/bars, far to many to list. Chicago has many different neighborhood bars/clubs, and each has its own feel or vibe.
-Food. Chicago may be the most ethnically diverse city in the US. We have many excellent resturants for each ethnicity. If your staying downtown, some places to hit is Gibsons (mentioned earlier), Harry Carey’s, Frontera grill/Topolobampo, Ditka’s (da coach!) and dont forget Chicago style pizza. Uno’s or Due’s is the place to go.

Last and not least, you cannot forget the wives. The Magnificant Mile is the ultimate in shopping (Michigan Ave). A bit like Champs Elysees except…clean.

I hope everyone has a great time this week. See you on the 13th.

    Jeff in Chicago

[Thanks for that, Jeff. - Features Editor]

What a wonderful two nights….last night we were front row left balcony 3 seats from the wall/stage…a great view of the fingers on the fretboards of Phil, Guy and David.

Tonight we had 5th row floors but off to the right side beside a pillar…we were able to exchange them on the street with a “Broker” straight up for a pair of front row center balcony…because of the different seating locations, the two shows could not have been more different…last night it was about guitar playing, finger work, facial expressions…tonight it was the the full on Gilmour assault. Marc Brickman’s light show just continued to build as the night went on, I still can’t believe how he enhances the ECHOES experience…the sound was as close to perfect as you can get.

The standard set list was played with Fat Old Sun and Wot’s The Deal dropped for Coming Back to Life and Dominoes.

The band seemed more relaxed tonight but not quite as ON as last night…ALmost like an invited guest, on the first night they are on their best behaviour and trying to impress but by the second night they are more comfortable and helping themselves to the fridge…David appeared to surpress a couple of coughs. Don’t get me wrong, on a scale of 1 – 10 tonights show was an 11 with last nights a 12.

Again the crowd was well behaved (slightly less WOO HOO’s than last night). After David introduced the Band he also thanked Marc and the sound mixer (did not catch the name, but he did an “AWESOME” job). He also thanked Polly for all of her support.

Looks like I will have to wait for the DVD to get my next Gilmour fix.

David, here’s hoping the creative juices are running strong and you will be back with more material in the near future. It would be sad to think that this might be the last time that we will see each other again.

Just got in from the second Toronto show. As expected the audience was thrilled from the first note to the final bow. Highlights for me were Take a Breath in the first half and Echoes in the Second. Watch Richard during Echoes, you will see a man playing with all the passion of a bygone era. For the briefest moments it felt like being at the UFO club in the late 60′s. (of course from my view point on the balcony, the audeince’s long hair from the 60′s was replaced by alot of gleaming bald spots).

Anyways, thank you for the memories David and band, and please remember you are always welcome in Toronto.

  31. JAK

I also will bring the squirter PJ!! My girlfriend, my son, a close friend, and myself will be attending Monday’s Paramount show. We also will fly from Denver…

My son has no idea that we are taking him to the concert, his first concert. At 17, he has listened to David Gilmour/Pink Floyd since day one (no doubt in the womb as well!) No harm there! There isn’t a drug in the world that could touch the emotional “high” I will feel with my son by my side at the show! I can’t wait to see and feel the kid’s emotions during the performance from the one great man who we both admire…

David Gilmour, Thank you for being a part of my life !!!

    JAK – Colorado

Back from the second night … I am now comfortably numb for the rest of my life! it was a great performance … thanks David and the band … hope to see you soon again in TO or anywhere else!

Dear feature editors and fans as well as Mr. Gilmour and entourage, it is i the one of i am sure many who could not obtain a ticket for the toronto show at Massey Hall this past 2 days. What makes it heart breaking for me is that i was at work ( 3-11pm) on both evenings and just miles away from Massey Hall knowing all along that the most wonderful musicians and music was being played live and i was at work. Oh i tried to talk myself out of feeling so many different emotions. The typical cliches, ” Everything happens for a reason” and so on and nothing seemed to work, I could not deny it anymore..I am and did miss my chances at seeing Mr. Gilmour at Radio City Music Hall and now Massey hall in toronto, canada. Of course being the ‘optimist’ that i am and trying to believe that my ‘luck’ can not be this bad i am talking myself into maybe if i pray harder or if i do this or do that maybe just maybe i can see the concert in Chicago and San Francisco or LA…Then reality again slams me in the face. If i was unsucessful at getting tickets to two venues that are close to me in proximity then how the hell am i going to see Mr. Gilmour in another city…In my head and in my heart i am there and watching no doubt a wonderful show with my absolute favorite performer, guitarist and singer ( David Gilmour) along with Richard Wright, Dick Parry and Guy Pratt and not to mention the other artists on this tour.. I am missing any chances at seeing Mr & Mrs Gilmour. I get into my car at approx. 11:30pm and my throat closes a little bit and my eyes well up with tears. I look up at the sky and think, What does it take to just go see a person that i admire in concert and why not now especially? What did i do so wrong? Why spend the monies i have on charities instead of myself and my wants? Why is it there are people at airports that bombard the Gilmour family in New York City and the greeting he must have received in Toronto knew where he was at? I would not have a clue. Not a one. I believe Polly put it perfect in her novel and that is the one short story called “Lucky” that i have quoted throughout my entries….I just am NOT a LUCKY person…Anything and everything i have i have to work for and make decisions daily some are life and death and others well not so intense….Mr. Gilmour and family may be turned in for tonight if they are still in Toronto because it is 12:24am and then I am sure he will be off to Chicago…God speed Mr. & Mrs. Gilmour and the whole team…I am not there in presence but I am there in my heart and in my mind. You have no idea. What i would not give to see Mr. Gilmour live.!

To those of you who are going and have been going please keep writing in and let me live my “dreams” through your realities…Thank You feature editors for allowing me to express my thoughts and feelings and I love the new site and the new important stuff and the not so important stuff…Great format and beautiful on the eyes. Mr. Gilmour you are the best of the best but i think you must know this by now and you sure the heck don’t need me telling you that.Afterall i am of no celebrity or famous status in life. Not compared by no means through all of your accomplishments and that of Polly’s….Polly you were dealt a lucky hand —-keep it up I think you also are the best.

A sincere admirer of David Gilmour and Polly Samson and to the feature editors of davidgilmour.com —-A big heart felt thank you.!!

Just got back to Newmarket after the show. A few thoughts then I have to hit the hay. First of all, yesterday, I said the audience was like anxious puppies, well tonight, in High Hopes just before the final solo (I call it spanish guitar), the audience was getting ready to whoop it up, David did a classic, short, sharp hand motion, similar to “down puppy” and darned if it didn’t work, the audience stopped dead and listened. I thought it was really funny. Now David needs to through puppy treats out as a positive re-inforcement of the behaviour (this strategy may need some refinement).

The concert was beyond marvelous. I now have empathy for Phil Manzanera listening to Davids bits and pieces and trying to convince him that he should record it. Tonight was David on the edge, David colouring outside the lines, David going beyond the form into the essence. It is only with the top notch support of genius musicians that David could allow himself this freedom. Everyone on that stage honoured music tonight. Steve Di Stanislao, was a stand out on Echoes, Guy was bopping his way through everthing, Phil was quietly, in the corner, laying the solid foundation needed for every good improv. Dick Parry, get out of town, (I know you are, that’s a compliment). Dick gave a master class in sax tonight. David, you think you can play sax with the big boys? not yet in Dick’s league. By the way Dick does have the bigger…sax. And there was quietly, classy Rick, in the corner doing his thing, softly, efficiently adding the touch. I noticed tonight that Rick did a segment in wish you were here, I hadn’t noticed it before, it stood out tonight as a particularly lovely bit of show.

But tonight it was David’s game. Virtuousity abounded. David please consider recording more work. I am not asking this in a greedy, can’t get enough spirit, but in the true spirit of feeling there just isn’t that much truth and beauty shown in this world, you create a soundscape of tenderness, beauty and love, it is precious, consider sharing, within safe boundaries of course.

    Love to the band.

  35. Cory Markoff

Unbelievable… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to studio albums the same anymore. As such, I’m not sure if tonight being the greatest night of my life is a good thing or not =). The man made me cry, and I don’t remember the last time I’ve done that. To top it off, the seats in front and beside me were vacant (RCF RS S36)!

I wish I could have seen him after the show, not to ask for an autograph (those don’t really have any meaning to me), but to shake his hand and say, ‘I really enjoyed myself tonight sir, thank you’.

Thanks to David and his band for coming to Toronto for the ‘On An Island Tour.’

These past two nights have been two of the most special musical experiences that I have ever had the pleasure to witness.

I need to go to bed for I have to get up for work in less than four hours, if I have an opportunity I will write more words tomorrow to describe these past two gigs at Massey Hall.

But if I had sum these two nights in one word, that word would be, brilliant.

Just to confirm tonight’s setlist (don’t you dare ask for it later, as it’s clearly written here more than once!):

First half: Castellorizon, On An Island, The Blue, Red Sky At Night, This Heaven, Then I Close My Eyes, Take A Breath, Smile, Pocketful Of Stones, Where We Start.

Second half: Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wearing The Inside Out, Dominoes, Coming Back To Life, Breathe/Time/Breathe (Reprise), High Hopes, Echoes.

Encores: Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb.

It’s early in the comments cycle… I was hoping to have an opportunity like this to pass a few of my most favorite David Gilmour moments in music:

-”The Narrow Way” from Ummagumma — The best part of the album, aside from the live set.
-Bluesy guitar solo in the “Mother Fore” segment of “Atom Heart Mother”.
-”One of These Days” — Studio performance “Meddle” and live work from “Live in Pomeii”.
-The third (bluesy riff) solo in Meddle’s “Echoes” — just before the whale song segment.
-Almost the entirety of “Obscured by Clouds”–Whenever I’m asked, I name this as my favorite PF album…and usually get befuddled looks.
-DSOTM: “Breathe”, “Time”, “Money”, “Us and Them”, and “Any Colour You Like”.
-The entirety of David Gilmour’s first solo album. Its too bad David is not playing any songs from his first solo release.
-Live performance of “Mother” [that guitar solo always brings a tear to my eye] and some of the opening guitar play in “Run Like Hell” during The Wall concert.
-”Out of the Blue” and “Near the End” [what a moving transition from acoustic to electric guitar] from About Face.
-”One Slip”, “Yet Another Movie”, “Round and Around”, and “Terminal Frost” from Momentary Lapse of Reason.
-”Keep Talking”, “What Do You Want From Me”, “A Great Day For Freedom”, and “Take It Back” from the Division Bell
-And finally, “The Blue” and “Smile” from David’s latest.

What an absolutely marvelous body work.

I’m excited to be seeing David Gilmour on April 19th.

Platinum! Our population is less than south of GB. That calls for a bonus doesnt it?

Vancouver needs you David. See you in summer?

  40. Chris McNulty

Just arrived home from the show at Massey HAll (1hr drive)and have one word to say “SPECTACULAR” (since AWESOME isn’t allowed)

Having followed the setlist since the start of the tour there were no great suprises, only a confirmation of how truly wonderful the show is.

I was able to leave my hockey stick under the seat because there was not a “pillock” to be found. The crowd was extremley appreciative with only the odd shout out’s that wern’t terribly distracting.

It was nice to see the band seemed to be truly enjoing playing together and not just putting in another show, which I believe was the whole concept of this tour. David seemed to have the largest smile on his face just playing along and singing harmonies on Wearing The Inside Out.

Thanks again for the visit and hope too see you again soon.

Just curious, when you are in the audience Polly do you find yourself singing the backing vocals to Smile like I do?

  41. Patrick Eaves

The shows sound like they are going great, and I’m enjoying everyone’s reviews! Thanks, keep them coming…and hey, the site is looking great FEd!

I’ll be at the Gibson on the 20th, and I was wondering about getting autographs. I know I just have to be in the right place at the right time, but what is the ettiquette? I don’t want to be pushy, but I sure would love to get a scribble from David, Richard, Guy, Jon, or any of the guys… Sticking an album in someone’s face or yelling out seems so rude, any suggestions on a proper and respectful ways to acquire some signatures if I get the chance?

Autographs or not, I’m counting down the minutes until the LA show!!

[I suppose eye contact, a shy smile and polite request would be most appreciated, but whether you get that chance is another thing with people jostling for position, pushing and shoving. Good luck anyway, Patrick. - Features Editor]

I am still in shock ! I was gonna cry at least for 10 times. it was great, NO WORD to describe.

and I also feel so so so so sad cause the moment is gone and I have a really bad feeling deep inside which is keep telling me: you may never be able to see him (+ rick = them) again.

    it was extra ordinary.

I went to the first show, after on an island david started with this : good evening, its been a while and then ppl got crazy. CRAZY ! he was ssssssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sweet and nice, we wanted to drink something and ppl started screaming and he turned and smiled at us, some guy said something and david talked to him. we love you david TAHNK YOU for this music just thank you. and you mr richard wright, you are as wonderfull as david, Im so happy that you also came. on an island is amazing. At some point hen they changed the order of songs I thought maybe they have removed TAKE A BREATH but at the end they played it.

the playlist was exatly as promissed. ECHOS was ther. O my god. rick got so so so exited and he was kinda dancing while playing. when david introduced rick, ool got EXTREMLY CRAZY and rick was not even expecting it. if they say it was the wormest welcome EVER in the history, they;ve not exaggerated. ppl were not being able to stop screamming. I was with my mom and my sister and it was our first time seeing david. im just 24 and you can imagine how BIG this thing was for me.

Massay hall is amazing but its has some really bad seats at some parts.like mine. it was in gallery , was pretty close to the stage but a bad view (still I cant complain)

at the beggining of the show there was a problem with the voice I guess, it was not perfectly tunned but they fixed it really fast, it was not even noticable.

Echos, OMG, they played amost all of it it was amazing. wish you were here, was it david or david + audiences ?
comfortably numb, cant say anything, it was as BIG as delicate’s version.

David at the end you said: HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN, you said the same thing at the end of pulse, I hope too. PLZ come back again, do this again. PLEASE david PLEASEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee. I have the strongest feeling in here that I WILL see a pink floyd show in couple of years but I dont care if I see another david gilmour + rick wright + that amazing band who plays on an island and shine on you crazy diamond.

After the show in like 15 minutes after the end there was a limo in front of the massay hall and security guard was protecting ppl to get in it ( I saw it from far) I kinda felt that its david but I couldnt see anything cause the glasses were dark. but I sent a huge, hope it has reached its destination.

I will right lots of details for you as soon as I come out of shock. seriously im so in shock. and it was not fair, I didnt take my camera cause it was said that its not allowed but everyone took their camera and ppl were even reconrding it and all I got was some bad pics with my cell phone :(

dear FED, any idea about the DVD ? i cant wait

    Kasra

    John in MadTown,

Don’t give up, guy. I know tickets will pop up, FEd’s right. Get there early enough and you’ll probably get in. I just missed out the first RCMH night by 15 to 20 minutes!

Good Morning, FEd by the way. Early morning for you, late night for me…..

[It was a late night for me as well. I must have had three hours. It's straight back to bed after this! - Features Editor]

  44. Matt

    Hey Fed,

I, for one, think that Polly’s lyrics are great, but I think David needs to have a song about cheese. If you think about it, David doesn’t have a single lyric pertaining to cheese in any of his songs. Am I wrong? I think this needs to be rectified immediately. I’m not saying he and Polly should write an entire concept album about cheese (although I can’t see the harm in doing so), just a song or two. Either cheese or pancakes. I don’t think it’s too much to ask.

Hopefully you will pass this on to the appropriate people.

    Matt

  45. Paul

Just got back from the show. Even better then last nights. David even dedicated “Coming back to life” to his “girlfriend”. I;ll write something in depth tomorrow but all I can say is it’s the best show I’ve ever seen, Guy Pratt is the coolest fellow alive and I got his pick and a drum stick! Perfect ending for a perfect night. Thanks so much Guy!

  46. Gerald McKelvey

If Guy and I thought last night was the best show yet, I was there last night (5th row center floors) and tonight (9th row center floors), the second show was far most enjoyable, and at its finest for sound and everthing.

Buddy must of met Claude somewhere in Montreal, because there was no “WOO WOO Floyd F**king rules Dude. The crowd was great and very into it.

Saw Polly and the kids sitting there, wanted to thank her and ask her to thank David, but when I turned, she was gone, sorry I missed you.

I think she went to meet David’s girl friend.

“FED you will have to ask David about this one”.

We managed to set the fire alarm off again, “thats funny”.

Thank you so much guys, it has been an incredible 2 nights.

    By for now.

  47. kevxn

The show tonight was AMAZING. David Gilmour is a truly inspiring musician. His band was top-shelf, as well. It was great to have Rick Wright play and sing throughout the show, as well as Dick Parry contribute his awesome chops on the sax.

The set list couldn’t have been better; the first half, “On An Island” straight through, and it was FANTASTIC. The songs sound even better live, I was thoroughly impressed. The second half, classic Floyd material. I couldn’t believe my ears. “Echoes” was a welcome suprise, and was definately the most mind-boggling live musical experience I have ever witnessed.

Massey Hall was such a great venue for this show, very intimate. Shame about the louts who felt they had to hoot and holler throughout the show as if they were at the hockey game, though.

The evening left me in a state of total relaxation and musical bliss. I was very lucky to have been able to see the show, and my expectations were exceeded in every way. My compliments to the musicians and crew.

  48. Jonah

I was at the Sunday night show and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was astounded. And I thought the venue and crowd was amazing. Those complaining about hooting and hollaring… you can’t possibly be that stuffy. It is a concert. Get a grip. I was there, and I know that the vast majority of hoots, hollars and shout-outs were between songs, or at points where everyone was applauding. Even the very very few who yelled out compliments and comments were very light-hearted and loving. And those who yelled “Echoes” probably knew it was coming and were just really excited. Have you ever been to a modern rock show in a bigger venue? That’s where you’d get a real idea of what hooting and hollaring is really like. Massey Hall’s crowd was tame, loving and respectful, and I applaud everyone in the house for it. Thank you David and co. and thanks to everyone who helped make it one of the most special times in my life.

  49. victor

they did ‘coming back to life’! i love that song. thanks again, ed. i really appreciate being able to see the setlist before i leave for work, even though that’s pretty sad. you must be knackered with all these late nights and early starts. thanks to everyone for the reviews. i wish i’d been there and that may wasn’t so far away… i wonder if i’ll get to hear ‘coming back to life’ at the rah. that song is so lush. anyway, have a good day/night everyone. shine on.

CAPTION: These restricted view seats aint all that bad I must say.

CAPTION: David’s appearence on Playschool rocked.

    Hi Fed

I’ve just seen a video (click my name) that I think was shot outside Marc Brickman’s house last December. Can you confirm this?

[It has to be Marc's house! I wouldn't fancy paying his electricity bill! - Features Editor]

  52. Jesse N

I just got back from what was probably the best show I’ll ever see. It was great!!! Everyone performed flawlessly. I was a little disappointed with my seating though. I could clearly see David, Phil, Steve and ofcourse Guy dancing all over the place. Guy busted out with some of the moves I remember seeing on what I think was the Pulse vhs, maybe DSOT. I could barely see Richard though. I stretched my neck a bit so I could see him during Wearing the Inside Out. I couldn’t see Jon at all, until I stood up during Comfortably Numb so I could get a view of the whole stage. I know I said earlier how much I hate when people stand, but I had to get the whole view for at least one song.

I was glad that there were not too many rowdy, stupid people. There was a bar open downstairs and I had 2 Jack&Coke’s before the show. There wasn’t enough time from admission to have more than 2 or 3 drinks…good planning on Massey’s part. There were camera phones everywhere. Several people in the rows in front of me kept raising their fat arms into my field of view so they could take pictures. I have to admit I was slightly annoyed.

Echoes was awesome!! The lasers were a nice touch. I could go on about how awesome the rest of the songs were, but I am tired from the journey back to Buffalo from Toronto. I’m going to bed now.

Thanks for the great show guys.

PS: You guys should really consider taking the recordings of your shows and making them available for download off the site for a reasonable fee. Metallica does that for their tours now… It shouldn’t be too difficult. It would make alot of fans very happy.

  53. Ian Pearson

To David, his band/family, FED and all who post on this site, I wish you all a very Happy Easter. I appreciate that for some this will be irrlevant and that you may not be celebrating but that doesnt stop me sending you all best wishes. This site is great because of you and I am convinced FED is made up of a committee. Surely no one person can do everything and its already acknowledged the team working in writing material for this site. Reading all the reviews is fantastic and I am soooooooooo looking forward to Glasgow.

It is going to be my first Easter without my wife as she died in May last year after 30 years of marriage. Reading David’s interview in MOJO was good therapy for me as in the darker moments of bereavement it was easy to think I am the only one who is suffering. Of course logic tells me that all of us have losses which we mourn and I am no different to anyone else. So thanks David for being candid about your friends and family members that have died over the past few years. I can emphasise. You appear to have moved on well but hey, what do I know, I cant even write an obituary for my wife yet.

Two thoughts I wish to share as I am writing this as therapy( Polly have you written anything about bereavement?). Before we were married my soon to be wife said to me, “If you really love me, you will destroy all your Pink Floyd records and stop being obsessed with them”. Of course I replied, saying that, ” No, if you really loved me, you’d allow me to listen to them all the time”! That was the start of the best 30 years of my life. Occassionally when I was alone whislt my wife was out, I would think, great, now I can play a Floyd album, but the funny thing is I never did preferring silence. This sound is the hardest to follow, easiest to download and you dont need an ipod.

The irony is that if my wife was alive today I would probably not be going to the Glasgow concert, certianly would not have gone to Mermaid as I would not have been aware of this site. Should be promoted more in CDs and concerts.

Keep up the good work all of you and David thanks for not only being best guitarist around today but also so human. “The Blue” lyrics really help me, hope you read this Polly.

Apologies for self indulgence but feel a little better now.

    Ian Pearson

[Bless you, mate. The same wishes to you. There really is just one FEd though, with excellent organisational awareness and unbelievable multi-tasking skills, but we do now have a SNEd as well. - Features Editor]

Longtime friend, Shawn, and I have been talking of seeing David together for 14 years now. The portal shall soon open for us in Oakland. TWO NIGHTS! We are both going out of our minds with anticipation! David, thanks for taking such great care of yourself, so we who were born at the time you began with Pink Floyd, can now hear, see, feel your presence, and experience your artistic brilliance. Each night my sleep lessens as the hour grows nigh. soon, we too, shall join you on an island!

Big news to all you Americans down south of the border.

David Gilmour has decided to stay in Canada and tour every city and local community hall he can book. He says he likes it here so much he might emigrate into Canada permanently. “Folks are so friendly here and nobody wants my autograph”…he said with a grin….nawwwww just kidding.

    I WISH!

Just got back from the show. Guy, yesterday you said it was the best show, you are absolutely wrong. Monday’s show was SPECTACULAR. You guys were tight and bang on. Some very minor glitches, I’ll not elaborate. On the floor right side and sixteen rows back. My wife and I walked in and I was agog. So close. We met up with Andy again along with Devon at the HRC. Thanks again both of you. Same 1st half, excellent OAI version with highlights galore. The Blue was better and improved, it must be difficult to play live with all the technicality with the peddles and picking to boot. Take a Breath rocked. Red Sky both nights, perfect sax solos David. Then I Close, with Guy on Blonde strat and Dick filling in on the cornet solo. More on him too. Smile, Pocketful and Where We Start, absolutely great guitar and singing. Break. Second set. Shine On, is this show being recorded? WOW again. The moment here was as someone suggested previously where Dick Parry plays the baritone sax and midway switches to alto sax, that moment with the white lasers surrounding him is priceless to see. Please record that point in the next DVD. The set switched from yesterday to Dominoes, Phil gets to solo here. The other song I forget, I’m really tired now, it’ll come to me. High Hopes was special too when David ends the song with the slide and continues with an accoustic solo that is so serene and beautiful. The audience applauds and hushes again until the very end. Remember this Chicago, he’ll do this more than once the entire show, just listen, appreciate the moment and applaud afterwards. On Time I notced that Guy plays the background with the drums, high end of the bass and muting 2 middle strings for the beat. Is this new or has it been around awhile? Very clever indeed. Echoes, what can I say, the classic of the night in my mind. Wish and CN were perfect again. My wife loved the the show and the audience again were well beyond behaved. The occasional Woohoos, but expected, no incidents, the Weed Security was right on top of the situation to abstain any smoking of any kind. Truly amazing for a rock concert. On the way outside the front doors, to my bewilderment were two lads. One with a backpack with a DVD playing Roger’s interpretation of Money from The Making of The Dark Side of the Moon. Fed, you are correct about the other side of the Roger fanatics you have to deal with. I saw it firsthand myself. Morons don’t get it I guess. Would have loved to stick around for David and the gang for a peek, but had to drive back so that me wife can go to work. I’ve taken this week off WWWWOOOOOHHHHOOOOO. LOL. More tomorrow, thanks for allowing this long post. Now I’ll Close my eyes.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ….

  58. Guy Pratt

Another great night, we love you Toronto, except…WHY DO PEOPLE TAKE FLASH PHOTOS???? THEY DON’T WORK AND ARE REALLY ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING!!!!! All you good people who are coming to the next shows please get vigilante and let people know how much we hate it…

For those of you who have been at these last couple of shows, is Rick on fire or what???

“The Story of Howard & Linda”…

    First “Howard”…

[I was really only interested in hearing two songs in particular... The first half of the concert…hummm well to be polite there were a few ok bits ... During the first half, I began to lose interest ...I just think that it dragged and I don’t think I was alone in this regard...Let’s face it most of us were there to hear the second set and not the first ...I think perhaps David realizes this…I maybe wrong. The overwhelming feeling I got Sunday night was one of goodbyes ... he realizes that there is a time to quit while you are ahead… Cheers, Howard]

    …now “Linda”

[Dear feature editors and fans as well as Mr. The typical cliches, " Everything happens for a reason" and so on and nothing seemed to work, I could not deny it anymore... maybe if i pray harder or if i do this or do that maybe just maybe i can see the concert in Chicago and San Francisco or LA...Then reality again slams me in the face. ... I am missing any chances at seeing Mr & Mrs Gilmour. I get into my car at approx. 11:30pm and my throat closes a little bit and my eyes well up with tears. ... What did i do so wrong? Why spend the monies i have on charities instead of myself and my wants? ....I just am NOT a LUCKY person...Anything and everything i have i have to work for and make decisions daily some are life and death and others well not so intense....]

What? Wait! Who died? Must make sense of this!!

I think I get it now! Howard is VERY SAD here, clearly!! and, in full knowledge of Linda’s predicament, and is somehow projecting….hmmmm…. his sadness for her…hmmmmm… in the form of his “concert lament”!?!?

…at a David Gilmour show, his first solo tour in 22 years?!?! What in the “wild world of sports” is going on here?! (read: If Guy is fiercely proud of the band’s playing in Toronto, then?!?!?)

…If I HAD (!) to choose, give me a FEW (it’s inevitable you know, come on) people who hoot and hollar a little bit (thereby showing a little genuine enthusiam) versus these 2 “Doom and Gloomers”. There’s got to be some real beautiful truth here beyond these skewed experiences!?

David has his heart on his sleeve and is blowing us all away, with a brilliant new album, at 60 years of age, with his best live performances ever!!! I’m so proud of each and every band member!!! Pheeeeeeeww!!! Had to get that out.

    & Yes I promise I’ll behave in L.A.!!

  62. Chris, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Congrats on the Platinum David! You are always welcome in Toronto Eh!

Attended the 2nd show (Monday) Incredibly Intimate venue for this type of material (Front row center, 2nd Balcony – stunning!)

Last saw Pink Floyd (at the now non-existent C.N.E Grandstand Stadium) back in Sept of ’87, 2 of the 3 sold-out Quadraphonic shows – What a difference in the two venues

To be honest, I was prepared for a ‘relaxed’ show. While the 1st set is a bit lighter in fare – It does allow the band to warm up and get going (They seemed very comfortable tonight – Seemed Dave added some length to certain sections tonight – Not wanting to finish – Even though the few impatient (but appreciative) fans would begin their applause a Lil’ early)

Aware of the importance of David’s solo material he really does soar with his Floyd stuff. IMO He is the, if not – in the top 2/3 Emotionally fluent Guitarists in the world.

Thank you for including ‘Time’ Dave

I was not expecting the Laser show (My first hint was the signs posted ‘WARNING – Heavy water based Fog and Laser show tonight’ YYYEEESSSSSS!

The Light Design/Show (for a smaller venue) had all of the makings of what Floyd would use for a stadium show (but in a relative way) Awesome!

    - Richard was strutting his stuff during ‘Echoes’
    - I liked the Semi-(Unplugged) ‘Shine OYCD’
    - ‘Comfortably Numb’ Solo sections make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, Wicked!
    - 1 very minor tech glitch w/ Guy’s stand-up bass (No problem Eh!)

Kurt from Post#9: It really depends on the specific venue about recording devices – lots of cell phone/cameras about, my mini DV captured the show as my little treat, Can’t wait for the actual DVD?

Fed – 1) Have or Are any concert’s from this tour being taped for a possible DVD?

2)Is Steve using the same Bell that percussionist Gary Wallis used in ‘High Hopes’?

Thanks again guys for an enjoyable night!

[It looks like the same bell to me, and yes, several shows have been recorded. - Features Editor]

    Hi Fed,

Is there a chance that (maybe?) Polly took a picture of David getting presented with the Plaque and if so, can you post it on the Blog?

Great album, by the way David, and I’m looking forward to going to the Glasgow concert – Roll On 27th May! ;)

[If we get one, we'll share it with you, Johnny. - Features Editor]

Many congratulations to David on achieving platinum in Canada ! It’s just a shame that can’t be repeated in the UK……….unless all you bloggers out there, want to go out and buy a second/third or fourth copy for your collections (I’ve got 2)!! Cheers all !

    Hello everybody!

This is my top ten Pink Floyd and solo members chart, as Bruce have suggested.

It was so hard! At the end…I choose to insert not necessary my “favourtites” but the songs that I think are more brilliant. The songs which I think trasmit the Pink Floyd’ mark. One of my favourites is, for example, “Wish you were here”….but maybe “One of these days” is more floydians….do you think it is a logical tought?

    1. Shine on you crazy diamond
    2. Echoes
    3. Atom Heart Mother Suite
    4. One Of These Days
    5. Dogs
    6. Comfortably Numb
    7. Speak To Me/Breathe
    8. Run Like Hell
    9. One Of The Few/The Hero’s Return (I think is correct put them togheter…isn’t it?)
    10. High hopes

But I can’t forget: Wish you were here, Pigs, A Narrow Way Pt. 1 (great guitar!), Raise My Rent, On The Turning Away, Mother, Hey You, The Show Must Go On…

    Have a great day!

    Hello,

Another suggestion for our bloggers and friends:

Where and when did you attend in the past a Pink Floyd show or a David Gilmour show ?

    for me:

    -Pink Floyd :
-Château de Chantilly (Paris) 1994, July, 30 or 31 (I don’t remember, but David had just married Polly the day before)

    -David :
    - Palais des Congrès (Paris) 2002, january, 23 and 24
    - Grand Rex and the Olympia (Paris) 2006, March, 15 and 16.

Congrats trully deserves it’s high standing, and amazingly Irish radio has jumped on board and is playing the single quite often ( q102,today fm and 2fm) so with a bit of luck it should start the ball rolling over here . It could be turned into a monster if we all pull together as a team!!

Ed ref my CAPTION are you big ED or Little Ed???

    Sorry I’ll pick a window.

So great to hear how well the shows are going… and FEd – you are doing a great job getting all the comments posted so promptly.

For those in the UK, just a head’s up – keep an ear out for your friendly postman, as the RAH tickets have started to be sent out. Around 10 minutes ago, I had the very nice surprise of a pristine pair for May 30th arriving!

[Just got back to Newmarket after the show]

I was wondering how you managed to get back so quickly then realised you didn’t mean Newmarket in Suffolk!

    Help!

I would like to say that “gold” and “platinium” don’t have the same meaning in all the countries.

For example, in France, “gold” means 100 000 copies sold and “platinium” means 300 000 copies sold !!!

Dear Fe/Ed I was moved by the post by Mr Pearson who had sadly lost his wife last May I wanted to send my best wishes to him.

I am not sure if David knows quite how much his music means to many of his fans (not a criticism).

Like all the very best music David’s abilities as a musician manage to communicate and express emotions that are hard to put into words.

His music has helped me through some very dark times throughout my life, his guitar playing has helped me to cry when I needed to as well as given me absolute joy ‘two sides of the same coin’.

Above all he has the ability to show his humanity through his playing, whether intentionally or not this ability marks him out as one of the greatest ever communicators of emotion through music.

Have a wonderful time at the RAH Mr Pearson :o )

Hey Chicago fans, anyone know the alcohol policy at the Rosemont? I am very wary of drunken fans ruining the experience. Do they serve booze out in the lobby and let fans drink inside the theatre? How about security? Do they check through everyones items for any contraband or do they have metal wands they use. Love to drink like everyone else but this is a once in a lifetime event and I do not want to have a Rudder’s experience! Thanks for the answers.

    Guy,

    …I….can’t…help…………..it….

    YOUGUYSF*CKIN’ROCK!YEAH!F*CKIN-A!!!WOOOHOOOOO!!!!

    damn. can’t seem to shake that new-york-screaming thing…. ;-)

Seriously, you guys really are tight-on! As a keyboardist who always had a special place in his heart for Richard Wright, (and was floored the first time I heard his “come back” on “Inside Out”), I’m really happy for him!

  85. FerrariGTO

Is there anybody who knows when the vinyl version of the On An Island album will be available? I have ordered a copy and the first release would be the 4th of April wich wasn’t the case. Now the date is the 17th of April… Can anyone confirm this date or the correct release date? And why are they always delaying releases (P.U.L.S.E.?)

[We're not talking about the 'PULSE' DVD here, as that's a Pink Floyd issue, but I wouldn’t expect to have the record before mid-May, I'm afraid. We'll keep you informed on the Latest News page. - Features Editor]

“For those of you who have been at these last couple of shows, is Rick on fire or what???

God this band rocks, and I should know, I’m in it…”

    DROOL

I hope theres gonna be some footage of that concert in the DVD if it comes out, it sounded so sweet. you lucky lot!

  87. JP

Well after attending concerts for 30 years last night at Massey Hall was indeed the best concert

I have ever seen. David and the band were incredible throughout the entire show. David’s improvisations on almost every lead solo on every song were greatly appreciated and left me thinking what else could he possibly do to improve on each song. Every song was absolutley amazing and the best live performances I have ever seen.

I see that ‘coming back to life’ was played on the second night of Toronto. Maybe, just maybe, they will play it the second night of Chicago!!??

Anyway, at any “normal” concert I would definetly drink heavy and have a good time.. At this concert I will be sober, in my seat, soaking every note and lyric in.

If people from Chicago are rude and loud I will be so angry and dissapointed. David please don’t give us a bad show because of some idiots!

  89. Angela

Saw the show Sunday night, and this is the first time I’ve had a chance to post.

David & Crew: Bravo is all I can say. Echoes alone was worth the 300 mile drive & the ticket price. Hope you meant it when you said “we’ll see you again”

We just so thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Personally, I didn’t think the crowd was too bad, except the fellow behind me that kept yelling “you are God!” (okay, that’s a new one to live up too!)

Peter: Don’t forget to email me the link we we’re discussing!

  90. Terry

Hey Mark I was at that Neil Young show where Neil finally finally told the dude to shut the @#*&^! up. I was like 4 seats from the guy. He was with a young lady and she was very embarassed. In fact shortly there after security came and took the guy out. About 15 minutes later he was back but he knocked off the crap. It was an unplugged concert and we were in like the 3rd row. I thought it was great that Neil singled the guy out. Rosemont theater is a great place for a show like this.

I have had my ticket for Thursday since they went on presale and I am happy to say I just scored a ticket close to the stage for Wednesday!

  91. Angela

F’ed: If someone guesses who you are will you tell us if they are correct, or just keep saying no?!

[I don't know why it's so important to people, Angela. I'm just a fan, like everybody else here. - Features Editor]

  92. Kev Bremner

ok, i dived home at lunch and found a card from the postie saying that my ‘special delivery’ requiring a signature was waiting for me at the post office, so i dived in my car and sped down trembling with excitement, hand over the card and there they are in my hands, two tickets for the 29th may.

i was feeling like charlie bucket after he found the golden ticket.

only a slight bummer to discover that my tickets are for row 14 which is a bit further back than i would have liked as there is no slope on the floor and my view might be a bit restricted if there are any tall dudes sitting in front of me.

one (or a couple of) other thing(s), i notice that the ticket has no counterfoil section, so do we get to keep the ticket or do we have to give the whole thing up.

Also the name jmiles appears at the bottom of the ticket and as this is not my name, i hope that it’s not a way for the venue security to ensure that i am the ticket holder.

[I'm sure you can keep the ticket, Kev. You'll have no other problems with it, either. - Features Editor]

  93. Debbie Marcotte

To David and the whole band THANK YOU SO MUCH!As I have previously said this is the Concert of 2006 for Me in Toronto.

David your guitar sounds so sweet and intoxicating I had closed my eyes at one point and felt every chord WOW. Richard your keyboards etc were like yester years Enlightning.

God I did not want this night to end, however it did and will be bottled in my memory 4-ever.

    Cheers

    To Ian Pearson :

Happy Easter to you too mate. My deepest condolences on you loss. I’ve suffered a similar tragedy in my life also, and I know it’s a cliche, but time really does (minimize if not totally..)heal all wounds.

Having seen the show here in Toronto I am 100% sure you will have an amazing time in Glasgow. They were brilliant! This DVD will something else; can’t wait.

Anyway Ian, thanks for the opportunity to read you post. My thoughts are with you; as I’m sure all of David’s fans are (..and there are a lot of us aren’t there?).

    yours truly,
    Tom Connolly :)

  95. Shane from Corning

My wife and I were fortunate enough be part of the experience Sunday night, sitting in row I at Massey Hall.

We’ve collectively been to a few concerts, including the Division Bell tour in 94 and the last 4 U2 tours with great seats, but the Massey Hall show stands out alone as “the experience”, not just a concert.

There was indeed something special in the air Sunday night and am glad that Guy felt the vibe and hopeful that David and rest of the band felt it as well.

The seemingly endless standing ovation between Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb almost levitated the Hall!

Many thanks to David, Richard, Guy, Jon, Phil, Dick, and Stve for a marvelous experience for a lifetime. A special thanks should go to Guy and Jon who should get bigger props as the unsung sidemen who have been there at David’s side for about 20 years now.

Hi all, well I am catching up slowly but I had to post to say that BOB YOUR A W*NKER

[We don't want personal attacks of this sort. There are nicer ways of showing your disagreement with someone, so please, let's cut this kind of thing out or posts will be deleted. Thank you. - Features Editor]
