Night 14: Toronto

88940025_blog.jpg

Guy seemed to think that last night at Massey Hall was the band’s best performance to date, so you must be feeling full of excitement if you’re going along for Toronto’s second live helping of the platinum-selling – yes, that’s right – ‘On An Island’ this evening.

Sales of David’s new album in Canada have been extraordinary. Congratulations to David, and thank you to all the fans who made this feat possible.

As always, we want to hear from you. Your thoughts and opinions make this blog what it is, so don’t be shy. If you’re going to be at tonight’s concert, let us know.

As always, the setlist will be revealed amongst all your comments, so if you don’t want to know what was played, please don’t read on.

Have a great night, everyone.

It’s because you are the great ‘unknown’ in this blog LOL! People love a bit of mystery.

Anyway, I don’t really think your true identity would mean anything to me since you are probably an employee of the organisation that David has hired to promote his album. Perhaps you got this job because you are a fan, and know your Floyd/David Gilmour?

To me, you are Ed, and I think you are a nice guy doing a great job keeping the loonies satisfied.

Thats enough for me. Keep up the good work!

    Best,
    Clemens

Quote Was Hendrix even this good on Guitar?

Who is this Hendrix person you speak of? did he play guitar as well??

I seem to recall Mr Gilmour saying he wasn’t all that bad in an inteview once.

I am of course only kidding ;o) sorry about that I don’t get out that much.

    Guy,

I really appreciate your posts, it’s great to hear the bands perspective on how the tour is going.

Thanks for the great album and please keep posting.

    All the best.

    Hi F’Ed

Thanks for your reply about the RAH tickets the other day – just to let you know they arrived today!! (Well, they arrived in Scotland today and are on their way south as I type!). Nice seats as well, in the stalls, stage right.

Still seems a long way off but I’m sure the time will fly…

The Sunday show was so good! In my opinion, the band was very tight, and the setlist was excellent.

My personal highlights were Echoes, High Hopes, and The Blue.

I couldn’t believe the solo in Comfortably Numb!! It kept going and going. I thought my son Mike was going to have a seizure!! He had his eyes closed with bliss. Have to love a 20 year old with good musical taste.

Thank you David and all of the band, for a memorable evening. A big thanks to the fans on the left floor. Yes, I heard a few idiots in the hall, but our area was great. Very nice people, and not a fool to be found.

Angela, it was a lovely surprise to meet you and your husband Sunday morning! Great to meet a fellow blogger! I enjoyed our conversation, and I’m so pleased to hear that you had a good visit to my hometown!!

I haven’t forgotten you – that email with the link will be on its way today!

I’d like to rename Wish You Were Here, to Glad I Was There!!!

    Toronto Sun – 5 out of 5 stars!! (I’d give it a 6)

    Good morning, F.Ed,

In bed after 1AM and up at 5:30AM? That’s dedication there. Are you on straight coffee grounds? Thanks for working so hard.

Guy wrote “God this band rocks, and I should know, I’m in it… ”

You just now figured that out? and I thought I was slow…

The reviews have been great to read, sounds like the shows have been a real joy to watch as well as perform. (as a side note, it’s really quite interesting how people can watch the same show in the same place and have totally different experiences. It really makes you think about how much expectation and attitude play in one’s concert-going experience).

Anyways, good day all. Thanks to my fellow bloggers for making this such an interesting place to be.

    Hello Guy

Just want to let you know that a young lady seated directly in front of me had her camera taken away from her by an usher and had to leave for a bit.And what an inopportune time it was as it was during Echoes. So let this be a fair warning to future concertgoers. You could really miss out big time if you bring your cameras with you.So just don’t.

As far as the concert goes, what can I say that hasn’t been said already.Absolutely stunning. It all seems so surreal now.Thank you David and Friends!

    GREAT GRANDMA

SHE WAS A WOMAN WITH A BROOM OR DUST PAN OR A WASHRAG OR A MIXING SPOON IN HER HAND. YOU SAW HER CUTTING PIECRUST IN THE MORNING, HUMMING TO IT, OR YOU SAW HER SETTING OUT THE BAKED PIES AT NOON OR TAKING THEM IN, COOL, AT DUSK. SHE RANG PORCELAIN CUPS LIKE A SWISS BELL RINGER, TO THEIR PLACE. SHE GLIDED THROUGH HALLS AS STEADILY AS A VACUUM MACHINE, SEEKING, FINDING AND SETTING TO RIGHTS.

SHE MADE MIRRORS OUT OF EVERY WINDOW, TO CATCH THE SUN. SHE STROLLED BUT TWICE THROUGH ANY GARDEN, TROWEL IN HAND, AND THE FLOWERS RAISED THEIR QUIVERING FIRES UPON THE WARM AIR OF HER WAKE. SHE SLEPT QUIETLY AND TURNED NO MORE THAN THREE TIMES IN A NIGHT, AS RELAXED AS A WHITE GLOVE TO WHICH, AT DAWN, A BRISK HAND WILL RETURN. WAKING, SHE TOUCHED PEOPLE LIKE PICTURES, TO SET THEIR FRAMES STRAIGHT.

    BUT , NOW…?

    “GRANDMA,” SAID EVERYONE. “GREAT-GRANDMA”.

NOW IT WAS AS IF A HUGE SUM IN ARITHMETIC WERE FINALLY DRAWING TO AN END. SHE HAD STUFFED TURKEYS, CHICKENS, SQUABS, GENTLEMEN AND BOYS. SHE HAD WASHED CEILINGS, WALLS, INVALIDS, AND CHILDREN. SHE HAD LAID LINOLEUM, REPAIRED BICYCLES, WOUND CLOCKS, STOKED FURNACES, SWABBED IODINE

ON TEN THOUSAND GRIEVOUS WOUNDS. HER HANDS HAD FLOWN ALL AROUND ABOUT AND DOWN, GENTLING THIS, HOLDING THAT, THROWING BASEBALLS, SWINGING BRIGHT CROQUET MALLETS, SEEDING BLACK EARTH, OR FIXING COVERS OVER DUMPLINGS, RAGOUTS, AND CHILDREN WILDLY STREWN BY SLUMBER. SHE HAD PULLED DOWN SHADES, PINCHED OUT CANDLES, TURNED SWITCHES, AND – GROWN OLD. LOOKING BACK ON THIRTY BILLIONS OF THINGS STARTED, CARRIED, FINISHED AND DONE, IT ALL SUMMED UP, TOTALED OUT; THE LAST DECIMAL WAS PLACED, THE FINAL ZERO SWUNG SLOWLY INTO LINE A SILENT HOUR BEFORE REACHING FOR THE ERASER.

“LET ME SEE NOW” SAID GREAT-GRANDMA. “LET ME SEE……..”

WITH NO FUSS OR FURTHER ADO, SHE TRAVELED THE HOUSE IN AN EVER-CIRCLING INVENTORY, REACHED THE STAIRS AT LAST, AND, MAKING NO SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT, SHE TOOK HERSELF UP THE THREE FLIGHTS TO HER ROOM WHERE, SILENTLY, SHE LAID HERSELF OUT LIKE A FOSSIL IMPRINT UNDER THE SNOWING COOL SHEETS OF HER BED AND BEGAN TO DIE.

    AGAIN THE VOICES:

    “GRANDMA! GREAT-GRANDMA!”

THE RUMOR OF WHAT SHE WAS DOING DROPPED DOWN THE STAIRWELL, HIT, AND SPREAD RIPPLES THROUGH THE ROOMS, OUT THE DOORS AND WINDOWS AND ALONG THE STREET OF ELMS TO THE EDGE OF THE GREEN RAVINE.

    “HERE NOW HERE!”

    THE FAMILY SURROUNDED HER BED.

“JUST LET ME LIE,” SHE WHISPERED.

HER AILMENT COULD NOT BE SEEN IN ANY MICROSCOPE; IT WAS A MILD BUT EVER-DEEPENING TIREDNESS, A DIM WEIGHTING OF HER SPARROW BODY; SLEEPY; SLEEPIER; SLEEPIEST.

AS FOR HER CHILDREN AND HER CHILDREN’S CHILDREN-IT SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE THAT WITH SUCH A SIMPLE ACT, THE MOST LEISURELY ACT IN THE WORLD, SHE COULD CAUSE SUCH APPREHENSION.

“GREAT-GRANDMA, NOW LISTEN- WHAT YOU’RE DOING IS NO BETTER

THAN BREAKING A LEASE. THIS HOUSE WILL FALL DOWN WITHOUT YOU. YOU MUST GIVE US AT LEAST A YEAR’S NOTICE!”

GREAT-GRANDMA OPENED ONE EYE. NINETY YEARS GAZED CALMLY OUT AT HER PHYSICIANS LIKE A DUST-GHOST FROM A HIGH CUPOLA WINDOW IN A FAST EMPTYING HOUSE. “TOM…?”

THE BOY WAS SENT, ALONE, TO HER WHISPERING BED.

“TOM,” SHE SAID, FAINTLY, FAR AWAY, “IN THE SOUTHERN SEAS THERE’S A DAY IN EACH MAN’S LIFE WHEN HE KNOWS IT’S TIME TO SAY GOOD-BY AND SAIL AWAY, AND HE DOES, AND IT’S NATURAL-IT’S JUST HIS TIME. THAT’S HOW IT IS TODAY. I’M SO LIKE YOU SOMETIMES, SITTING THROUGH SATURDAY MATINEES UNTIL NINE AT NIGHT WHEN WE SEND YOUR DAD TO BRING YOU HOME. TOM, WHEN THE TIME COMES THAT THE SAME COWBOYS ARE SHOOTING THE SAME INDIANS ON THE SAME MOUNTAINTOP, THEN IT’S BEST TO FOLD BACK THE SEAT AND HEAD FOR THE DOOR, WITH NO REGRETS AND NO WALKING BACKWARD UP THE AISLE. SO, I’M LEAVING WHILE I’M HAPPY AND STILL ENTERTAINED”.

DOUGLAS WAS SUMMONED NEXT TO HER SIDE.

“GRANDMA, WHO’LL SHINGLE THE ROOF NEXT SPRING?”

EVERY APRIL FOR AS FAR BACK AS THERE WERE CALENDERS, YOU THOUGHT YOU HEARD WOODPECKERS TAPPING THE HOUSETOP. BUT NO, IT WAS GREAT-GRANDMA SOMEHOW TRANSPORTED, SINGING, POUNDING NAILS, REPLACING SHINGLES, HIGH IN THE SKY!

“DOUGLAS,” SHE WHISPERED, “DON’T EVER LET ANYONE DO THE SHINGLES UNLESS IT’S FUN FOR THEM.”

    “YES’M”

“LOOK AROUND COME APRIL, AND SAY, “WHO’D LIKE TO FIX THE ROOF?’ AND WHICHEVER FACE LIGHTS UP IS THE FACE YOU WANT,DOUGLAS. BECAUSE UP THERE ON THAT ROOF YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE TOWN GOING TOWARD THE COUNTRY AND THE COUNTRY GOING TOWARD THE EDGE OF THE EARTH AND THE RIVER SHINING, AND THE MORNING LAKE, AND BIRDS ON THE TREES DOWN UNDER YOU, AND THE BEST OF THE WIND ALL AROUND ABOVE.

ANY ONE OF THOSE SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO MAKE A PERSON CLIMB A WEATHER VANE SOME SPRING SUNRISE. IT’S A POWERFUL HOUR, IF YOU GIVE IT HALF A CHANCE……….

HER VOICE SANK TO A FLUTTER.

    DOUGLAS WAS CRYING.

SHE ROUSED HERSELF AGAIN. “NOW, WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?”

“BECAUSE,” HE SAID, “YOU WON’T BE HERE TOMORROW.”

SHE TURNED A SMALL HAND MIRROR FROM HERSELF TO THE BOY. HE LOOKED AT HER FACE AND HIMSELF IN THE MIRROR AND THEN AT HER FACE AGAIN AS SHE SAID, “TOMMORROW MORNING I’LL GET UP AT SEVEN AND WASH BEHIND MY EARS; I”LL RUN TO CHURCH WITH CHARLIE WOODMAN; I’LL PICNIC AT ELECTRIC PARK; I’LL SWIM, RUN BAREFOOT, FALL OUT OF TREES, CHEW SPEARMINT GUM…..DOUGLAS,

DOUGLAS, FOR SHAME! YOU CUT FINGERNAILS, DON’T YOU?”

    “YES’M”

“AND YOU DON’T YELL WHEN YOUR BODY MAKES ITSELF OVER EVERY SEVEN YEARS OR SO, OLD CELLS DEAD AND NEW ONES ADDED TO YOUR FINGERS AND YOUR HEART. YOU DON’T MIND THAT, DO YOU?”

    “NO’M”

“WELL, CONSIDER THEN, BOY. ANY MAN SAVES FINGERNAIL CLIPPINGS IS A FOOL. YOU EVER SEE A SNAKE BOTHER TO KEEP HIS PEELED SKIN? THAT’S ABOUT ALL YOU GOT HERE TODAY IN THIS BED IS FINGERNAILS AND SNAKE SKIN. ONE GOOD BREATH WOULD SEND ME UP IN FLAKES. IMPORTANT THING IS NOT THE ME THAT’S LYING HERE, BUT THE ME THAT’S SITTING ON THE EDGE OF THE BED LOOKING BACK AT ME, AND THE ME THAT’S DOWNSTAIRS COOKING SUPPER, OR OUT IN THE GARAGE UNDER THE CAR, OR IN THE LIBRARY READING. ALL THE NEW PARTS, THEY COUNT. I’M NOT REALLY DYING TODAY. NO PERSON EVER DIED THAT HAD A FAMILY. I’LL BE AROUND A LONG TIME. A THOUSAND YEARS FROM NOW A WHOLE TOWNSHIP OF MY OFFSPRING WILL BE BITING SOUR APPLES IN THE GUMWOOD SHADE. THAT’S MY ANSWER TO ANYONE ASKS BIG QUESTIONS! QUICK NOW, SEND IN THE REST!

AT LAST THE ENTIRE FAMILY STOOD, LIKE PEOPLE SEEING SOMEONE OFF AT A RAIL STATION, WAITING IN THE ROOM.

“WELL,” SAID GREAT-GRANDMA, “THERE I AM. I’M NOT HUMBLE, SO IT’S NICE SEEING YOU STANDING AROUND MY BED. NOW NEXT WEEK THERE’S LATE GARDENING AND CLOSET-CLEANING AND CLOTHES BUYING FOR CHILDREN TO DO. AND SINCE THE PART OF ME WHICH IS CALLED, FOR CONVENIENCE, GREAT-GRANDMA, WON’T BE HERE TO STEP IT ALONG, THOSE OTHER PARTS OF ME CALLED UNCLE BERT AND LEO AND TOM AND DOUGLAS, AND ALL THE OTHER NAMES, WILL HAVE TO TAKE OVER, EACH TO HIS OWN”.

    “YES, GRANDMA.”

“I DON’T WANT ANY HALLOWEEN PARTIES HERE TOMORROW. DON’T WANT ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING SWEET ABOUT ME; I SAID IT ALL IN MY TIME AND MY PRIDE. I’VE TASTED EVERY VICTUAL AND DANCED EVERY DANCE; NOW THERE’S ONE TUNE I HAVEN’T WHISTLED. BUT I’M NOT AFRAID. I’M TRULY CURIOUS. DEATH WON’T GET A CRUMB BY MY MOUTH I WON’T KEEP AND SAVOR. SO DON’T WORRY OVER ME. NOW, ALL OF YOU GO, AND LET ME FIND MY SLEEP….”

    SOMEWHERE A DOOR CLOSED QUIETLY.

“THAT’S BETTER.” ALONE, SHE SNUGGLED LUXURIOUSLY DOWN THROUGH THE WARM SNOWBANK OF LINEN AND WOOL, SHEET AND COVER, AND THE COLORS OF THE PATCHWORK QUILT WERE BRIGHT AS THE CIRCUS BANNERS OF OLD TIME. LYING THERE, SHE FELT AS SMALL AND SECRET AS ON THOSE MORNINGS EIGHTY-SOME-ODD

YEARS AGO WHEN, WAKENING, SHE COMFORTED HER TENDER BONES IN BED.

A LONG TIME BACK, SHE THOUGHT, I DREAMED A DREAM, AND THAT WAS THE DAY I WAS BORN. AND NOW? NOW , LET ME SEE………..

SHE CAST HER MIND BACK. WHERE WAS I? SHE THOUGHT.

NINETY YEARS……..HOW TO TAKE UP THE THREAD AND THE PATTERN OF THAT LOST DREAM AGAIN? SHE PUT OUT A SMALL HAND.

THERE………YES, THAT WAS IT. SHE SMILED. DEEPER IN THE WARM SNOW HILL SHE TURNED HER HEAD UPON HER PILLOW. THAT WAS BETTER. NOW, YES, NOW SHE SAW IT SHAPING IN HER MIND QUIETLY, AND WITH A SERENITY LIKE A SEA MOVING ALONG AN ENDLESS AND SELF-REFRESHING SHORE. NOW SHE LET THE OLD DREAM TOUCH AND LIFT HER FROM THE SNOW AND DRIFT HER ABOVE THE SCARCE-REMEMBERED BED.

DOWNSTAIRS, SHE THOUGHT, THEY ARE POLISHING THE SILVER, AND RUMMAGING THE CELLAR, AND DUSTING IN THE HALLS. SHE COULD HEAR THEM LIVING ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE.

“IT’S ALL RIGHT,” WHISPERED GREAT-GRANDMA, AS THE DREAM FLOATED HER. “LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS LIFE, IT’S FITTING.”

AND THE SEA MOVED HER BACK DOWN THE SHORE.

    Ummm…. wow.

Thank you to David and the band for the 2 most extraordinary concerts I’ve ever witnessed. There was truly something special in the air. We had tickets for the 9th and after that we HAD to go to the second show.

The energy was electric and I truly felt honoured to be where I was. Everything from the sound to the lasers was absolutely perfect. It was great to hear the classics and the modern masterpieces. On an Island put me in a trance and the second half absolutely exploded Massey Hall.

Thank you David, I’ll never forget it, you brought me back in time. Playing a small venue was the best decision you made! So intimate and personal.

  13. Michael Kelly

Yes, Guy, Rick was definately on fire at Radio City, both musically and vocally. His performance in Echoes in particular gave me chills. Let’s hope this same band can stay together when he goes on a tour for his next solo album (heck, I’d even love a belated Broken China tour).

And you were pretty damn hot yourself (with your bass playing… don’t read into that any further), especially on Time which is a nice challenging song from start to finish for any bass player, so give yourself a pat on the back too.

  14. Matthew

I only had two tickets for Monday’s show so I thought I would walk by Massey on Sunday to see if I could see David or anybody else walking in and when I turned the corner all I could see is a shower of equipment being unloaded off of two semi trucks. So I have to give a shout out to all the boys who have to unload it and reload it because there was a lot of work to pack it, unpack it and keeping track of it all. So I took a few pictures and stood on the corner outside of the box office waiting and watching, and a guy walks out of the box office with a big old grin, I asked him why the smile and he said that they released 100 single seats and there are a few left so I ran in and had maybe 3 or 4 guys in front of me and somebody said they were going for 150 bucks per seat. Wow a small price to pay to see the once in a life time concert, two guys left right away and then there was one guy left and I over heard that there was one seat left and that there was a small railing blocking the view on the left side of the balcony. He thought about it for the longest time and he finally passed on it and walked out, I didn’t even think for a second I had my Credit Card out and was smiling. Paid and walked out and every body passing by saw my smile and asked if they were selling any more and I told them nope I got the last one, I ran back to my hotel afraid of getting followed (even though Toronto was a good clean city, I didn’t want to take any chances) because of the value and how lucky I had been. Also the ticket was only 88 CAN!!! WHAT A STEAL!!!!!!!

Sunday: The seats were perfect the only thing the rail blocked was David’s knee caps, I can’t help but thank the box office guy for saying what he did or the guy in front of me would have gotten the last ticket. Sunday’s show was the best, I can’t even find the words and the goose bumps came almost every song because I couldn’t believe I was here. I really did not like that people were taking flash (turn them off on most digital cameras there is an option to turn it off, so turn it off my pictures came out fine with out the flash!!) And the other thing is don’t start clapping and cheering until the song is completely down playing, it gets frustrating at the end of high hopes after the lap steel guitar solo that I can’t hear him go back to his acoustic so if you go to future concerts don’t clap until the song is 100 % done, I know David will appreciate it. I really like the solo for Fat Old Sun, who ever controls the sound for the concert I tip my hat to you, Fat Old Sun was a nice flowing song until the solo and then it was cranked up and it sounded awesome. Nice and loud, I’ve never heard FOS played live but I truly love it now because of Sunday’s performance.

Monday: I agree with Guy, Saturday’s concert was better comparing to Sundays. But it was nice to see Coming Back to Life played; I would have dropped Dominoes for Fat Old Sun but I’m not complaining it was nice to see and hear different songs. Richard does really get into when he is playing, it looks like him and Guy feed off of each other. Again don’t clap and cheer until the song is done I think David had enough of that because at the end of High Hopes when he went from his Lap steel solo back to the acoustic just before he started playing he held his arm up and silenced the crowd to hear the last part which was finally nice to hear, and funny when he silenced the crowd. (Totally agreed with him for doing that, so I hope people read this and learn from what happened) Again why don’t people turn off you flash on their cameras?????!!!!!

I saw a oops by the support people on the stage helping David and the crew changing guitars. Somebody put the lap steel guitar out for high hopes, but forgot to put the silver thing out for playing the frets so he ran it over and gave it to David and David quickly grabbed it and missed the first note but picked right up by the time he got it in his hand and I was impressed, it didn’t sound like anything was off.

I wish I had money so I could go to the Chicago show to see it, I would be in money problems but you can’t but a price tag on his shows.

Hope to see David and the crew back in North America in the future if not I’ll have one hell of a story to tell my kids, and my grandkids when I have them.

P.S. Also when you record the DVD, please, please could you put Fat Old Sun on it!!!

    Notes:
    1. Thank you-the show was fabulous
    2. We miss you
    3. Come back someday
    4. While the NY crowds are “exciting”, a little known fact that may serve you well in the future is that the State of CT is close by, with small venues, parks and many relaxing towns to visit. They also boast a strong airport security for dignitaries
    5. We hope to see many of you again!

    Other Thoughts:

David-You look great and sound even better than ever. As the years go on, I hope you contemplate occasional US shows (even one-off’s)when you feel so compelled or even when you are traveling with just an acoustic. After all, I get to see BB King every year!!

Richard-Superb! How about a follow-on to Broken China! Also, how do you manage to deal with that “ever perky” Guy fellow?

Polly-Beautiful lyrics and thanks for keeping the old man happy! We hope he hasn’t been to much trouble over the years, helps around the house a bit and spends quality time with the kids. If he doesn’t, feel free to share this with him as a reminder!

Dick-The sax switch went on without a hitch! Now that’s a video clip they should post here!

Jon-Looking forward to the Richard Butler album and the support on that other tour this fall..hoping to hear you handle “Dogs” again

    David C. & Graham N.-I Haven’t seen you live since ’00. Wonderful!

Not to lump the rest of you (but I don’t want to drone on) but to Steve, Guy, Phil (and anyone I may have missed)..Great job!

  18. Andrew S in Toronto

Went to the concert last night. Still cannot believe it. My wife and I were in third row centre. Wow! Fan- F-ing- tastic! (pardon my language). Division Bell in ’94 was the first concert that we went to see together and no other concert since has been the equal of it until last night. Just amazing. Of course, Echoes was the highlight, but hearing the new album live (and without the orchestral instruments) was amazing too. Am I the only one who tears up when they hear the solos in Comfortably Numb? They are just exquisite!

There was only one yob yelling “Yeah, Davey”, “Yeah, Ricky” that sort of thing, showing off his (lack of) knowledge of the PF member’s names. He didn’t do it enough to be really annoying. As far as I could hear, the rest of the audience was very respectful. I noticed a lot of people just staring at David with these looks of pure rapture. Guy was really rocking! And I was so proud of the standing ovation that everyone gave Richard. His response to it was great. No wonder he was on fire! And someone has to tell Phil that he doesn’t need to wear loud shirts to be noticed (loved the leather pants, though).

I am curious to know how Dick Parry felt, being bathed in those vertical lines of white light. (almost looked like a jail). My guess is that he probably doesn’t notice it and will be quite surprised when he sees himself on the DVD (please, please), lit up like a rock star.

Thanks to David, Polly and everyone in the band for touring, and thanks to everyone in the crew (especially the cute, young one who may have been David’s son, the world’s youngest roadie, helping them break down the set) for making it possible.

    Dear Fed Ed.,

I was thrilled to have my question answered from last week regaring any late night show appearences that David will be making, via the website’s news section. In my humble opinion that’s really a smart move playing one of the late night shows, especially since he’s going to be in the city where they tape the shows.

I’ll be watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 20.

Now I’ve got to get ready to wrap stuff up here at work before driving to catch my flight to Chicago from my home state of Virginia. I’ll be seeing both of David’s shows at the Rosemount.

    I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey folks, this blog has been great. Glad we steered it back on course.

I am holding an extra pair of good seats for Monday Night Oakland show. I only want these tickets to go to David Gilmour fans. I’d prefer they go to someone active in this blog and it has been a nice group (for the most part), and kept the excitement up and building. If they were to go to a father taking their son, that would be a bonus. Face value of course w/ all charges.

If you meet this criteria, and can prove to me you either live in Bay Area or proof you will be here for Monday’s show, send me an email. If you can include a tidbit about my ‘alter-ego’ or explain why/how ‘I go both ways’, that would prove to me you have been paying attention to the blog, as this has come up a few times. I will do this carefully to be sure the ‘right’ people attend. I will be 2 rows directly behind you, so I am going, but friends backed out for some INSANE REASON.

I suppose it’s become sort of a game for us bloggers, and apparently you want to keep playing! I’m sure many of us feel like we have gotten to “know” you through this, so that is why we are compelled to guess! It looks like your identity will go down as another of the world’s great mysteries, like Marilyn Monroes death or something..:)

  29. Nick from Toronto

I was at the first show in Toronto. I won’t go into any detail, we all know how fantastic the show was… I want to bring up something though. I was watching Jon Carin closely… during CN, “Ok. Just a little pinprick. There’ll be no more …Aaaaaahhhhh!”.. and he gently taps the PING note on his keyboard as Rick says pinprick. I thought that was awesome! The way he did was great. With such enjoyment. I love seeing that stuff!! Yeah, Rick was on vocals for CN with David doing the chorus. AWESOME!

Anyone spot David and the guys around Toronto at any restaurants? or shops?

  30. Pete

I’ve been attending this site for several months, made a few posts etc. (I haven’t become quite the blog-addict that Rudders is!!!).

I’ve had a nagging thought in the back of my mind while reading this…especially since learning that the ‘man of the moment’ actually casts his eye over what we write.

That thought is: I hope in all sincerity that David now realises how much his music is loved by so many people…and that this album / tour is not the last we get to see of him. It seems like he’s started something new…and one can’t help but hope that he has found a new passion as well.

  31. frank par

Coming Back To Life, now I remember. Just before this was played, there was a pause and David collaborated with Richard, and Richard seemed bewildered. Last moments notice perhaps? Richard, you were rockin on Echoes, you should have seen Jon, his expression was priceless. How come he’s havin all the fun. LOL. Congrats on Platinum ,gang, see you on Jay Leno and play Echoes, that’ll freak him out. Just kidding. RAH should be incredible, I’m sure that the orchestra, special guests, including Fed and Sned, Polly on stage? Recorded ,after this practice tour. Thank You and Shine On you Great Diamonds.

I have recieved my 29th RAH tickets but not a pair! I have one in row 5 and one in row 6 (block O). Contacted RAH and following received:

“Thank you for your email….these are two single seats. I hope that you have an excellent evening nevertheless.”

I have e-mailed Trinity St but the earlier post suggests a reply not guaranteed. I know I am lucky to get tickets but I bought a ‘pair’ and was rather hoping to enjoy the show with my wife! Surely two adjacent seats isn’t too much to expect at these prices.

I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people in the US to even be able to see David Gilmour live. I have never seen Pink Floyd and had no desire to see Roger Waters. The most common reaction when I tell people I am driving 7 hours to Chicago to see David Gilmour is, “Who?”

Unfortunately, my generation is musically retarded and have wasted their ears on this over-produced crap the industry wants us to think is rock and roll. At least I know better. I can’t wait. I don’t care what he plays. Old Floyd, newer Floyd, all songs I have never heard or everything off OAI. I know I won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait.

    Erin

  36. Tim Taylor

Holy Cow! MY show is a week from Thursday! Can’t believe it’s almost here! Getting even more excited… if that is somehow possible!

It was really great listening to OAI at the Grand Canyon while hiking… had the cd player on repeat and listened over and over during the 10 mile hike. What a great setting for this cd! Someone said above that most of us are really going to the show for the second half. I’m in the minority I guess… I can’t wait to hear OAI live!!! Yes I also am WAY stoked to hear Echos live… and I will enjoy the old Floyd stuff hugely- but I’m there for OAI… want to see how it translates to the live setting (I’ve heard most of the old Floyd catalogue live at some point- cd mind you- I’ve only seen them once for TDB tour).

See you all soon at the Gibson! Don’t forget to wear a button/name badge saying “Zaphod Beeblebrox For President” if you want to be recognized as a fellow blogger!

F Ed, you wrote above that you are neither Nick Mason or one of David’s children. Perhaps you are one of Nick Mason’s children?

I know the truth. You are Bill Clinton. He’s a fan of the sax, y’know, and when he found out that David plays that instrument he had to apply for this F Ed job. Come on, fess up, you’re Bill Clinton. Right?

(Okay, so you’re Monica Lewinsky. So sue me.)

Comportment – yeah thats what its about. America is lucky to experience the musical talents of David Gilmour and his band. Yet as I read this I hear of nothing but people behaving in a boorish fashion – hooting and yelling like it was a bull fight, heavy drinking and rude noises. Such nonsense.Anyone with a miniscule modicum of musical acument would realise that this performance is in its very essence a classical, theatrical performance, not some hoot-nanny or jam band fiasco. Just one listen to “On An Island” would give you clues as to how to behave at these concerts – Catellorizon is an overture for heaven’s sake.

I was lucky enough to be in attendance at the Massey Hall Show in Toronto Monday night. All I can say is that the show was INCREDIBLE! I’ve attended close to 200 shows in my lifetime (of various artists) and this was (by far) the best show (musically) I’ve ever seen. The only complaint I had was the HORRID gallery seats (made for people 100 lbs and 4′ high). They were uncomfortable. Other than that, great show and my hats off to Mr. Gilmour for 3 hours of pure entertainment.

  47. Mike From Vancouver

    Hello All,

I have just returned to Vancouver from my weekend sojourn to Toronto to see David and the band for 2 nights at Massey Hall. I was surprised and thrilled to see Guy’s post regarding the Sunday show. The setlist at that particular show was the best one of the tour thus far. I also agree the performance was very good, particularily the 2nd set!!

I’ve seen it mentioned a few times, but it really needs to be said again that Richard Wright is having an amazing time on stage and performing his heart out every night. Specifically during the space jam bit on Echoes. Richard, you’re a joy to watch and listen to. I was fantastic to see someone who has played so many huge shows, be so thoroughly enjoying himself.

My only disappointment with the 1st show (4/9/06) was the “overly enthusastic audience”. Specifically during the beautifual acoustic coda of High Hopes. Also during the end of Echoes. This problem was rectified on Monday night. During High Hopes David signaled for the audience to remain quiet, and trust me it was worth it. Echoes also was allowed to complete before any cheering began.

A big thank you again to David and the band for the time of my life. I hope I get a chance to see these musicians perform in person again.

    - Mike from Vancouver

PS – Also hello to all the great PF and DG fans I met over the course of the weekend. You made my time in a strange city very enjoyable.

I’m getting hungry, Delicate Sound of Munster anyone?? Gotta love this Web. I’m still flying and don’t want to come down. Peace, good luck in Chicago. Please behave, as in Toronto. I was so impressed by our recognition for David and miss you all already. Would love to be at RAH for the finale. You are the lucky ones out of all this. Gotta cook dinner, wife’s exhausted probably from last night. Any suggestions for cheese anyone???? Take Care, you too Guy, keep posting.

The concert was a rush! The crowd roared like a lion and even though we were set upon and boxed about the head and shoulders for reminiscing about Richard Nicon’s visit to southern China, the people of Toronto were exquisite hosts. Thank you David for the highlight of our year so far. And thank you again for the music and memories which was partly captured in our cell phone. My young son broke the phone though. O well-we’ll remember the images in our minds forever!

I LOVE that Guy blogs here.

And, DAMN that I can’t see any of the shows. I read all the blogs every day, get the setlists, and have everything saved from the DG site for archiving.

I don’t have a URL but my handle on just about everything is “cwtae”. So that tells you how much I’m into all of this, and have been for a LOOOOOOONG time. Be wild if they’d whip THAT out on a show!

I don’t think anything but DG/PF/RW (Mr. Wright) has been played in any of my players for years. Even though I have all of the other RW’s, they don’t get played. If the FEd would maybe let Mr. Wright know that someone out here does have his stuff and enjoys it? Looking forward to the DVD of P.U.L.S.E. in September (but I know this site has nothing to do with THAT).

It would be cool at the end of the tour to see one blog from each band member. One from David himself would be a moment to be savored.

  56. Linda

hi fet ed .here are a few comments i have made about things that were said here today and yesterday :

“I also feel so so so so sad cause the moment is gone and I have a really bad feeling deep inside which is keep telling me: you may never be able to see him (+ rick = them) again”

kasra please don;t get upset because the moment has gone . cherish it in your memory . i am glad you had a good experience . maybe you won;t see him again but just remember maybe you will . there is always a chance :-)

“And why are they always delaying releases (P.U.L.S.E.?)”

you really need to go to the press section of this site . david himself mentions this in some of the interviews he does . i think it is something to do with the quality of the picutre as it was shot on video and not on film and it has to be brought up to dvd quality . though please don;t take my word as gospel read through the press section and you will hear about this from the horses mouth as it were .

“And as probably the biggest loony on this blogsite I agree.”

though i agree with you pete i am grossly insulted . i thought i was the biggest loony here :-) actually i think rudders might claim that title for his or her own :-)

why we all want to know who you are is because we don;t . you are like a ghost floating around , looking after and posting in this blog . it would be nice to be able to address my comments to a real name you see :-)

night fet ed . get some rest for god sake . we need youawake and topped up with enegery to sort through all the posts :-)

if you do get over tierd eat an apple and a banana . the fructose and potassium in them are fierce good for increasing energy :-)

    peace
    Linda

I was at the first Massey Hall show. What a great venue! My seats were in the ninth row balcony, but I still felt close to the stage. What a great performance by David and his band, think it’s cool that Guy said it was the best of the tour so far. The sound was by far the best I have ever heard at a concert. This will probably be the only time I see David, but seeing him just once means a great deal to me and I will never forget it. Thank you for a great evening.

I’m heading out as soon as I finish this entry…to Chicago(from Bagdad Arizona) where my nuclear family and I are going to see David play his cherished musics! We’ve had to mortgage the house for this trip but I’m hoping it will bring us all that much closer. I have very fond memories of seeing the master play with Pink Floyd in 1975 at a water park in Phoenix. I had to ask my wife to lower her voice but other than that the atmosphere reminded one of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It was that mystical! I hope many many more blessings fall upon everybody! Here’s to many many more wonderful shows! Can’t wait to see you all there.

[Philip- comportment... America being lucky to experience David and the band... nothing but boorish behavior... how to behave at these concerts]

Funny, I didn’t realize lack of pre-programmed behavior was unique to America, or heavy drinking, or louts yelling at inopportune moments for that matter. I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest we ALL (both sides of the pond) are quite lucky to be getting another chance to witness a virtuoso entering the twilight of his musical journey.

Unfortunately, we don’t each have the benefit of either excluding the 3500 or so other people that are sharing the moment, or dictating what they should or shouldn’t ingest prior to the performance. Of course we all hope that we’re not caught near any of these unappreciative sorts, and if we are, we hope security can do what they are paid to do. I also believe that these people do not represent the vast majority of considerate concert-goers, in any country, Philip.

Having seen most ‘classic rock’ bands from the early 70′s through present day, I’d say the fans have changed with age as much as the musicians themselves. We can all think back to the days when frisbees, beachballs, etc. flew through a blue haze of smoke prior to a band taking the stage…certainly not normal (thankfully) by today’s standards, yet we’re the same people that stood there 30+ years ago.

For all those seriously inquiring about drinking procedures at the Rosemont Theatre, “are fans in Chicago rude or obnoxious”, etc., do you honestly think it’s different than anywhere else?? I will say this…courteously appreciating the music and the enviornment is not necessarily exclusive of being served…just as much as an unruly fan could be clean and sober.

Moral of rant: (Besides the fact people should not generalize), I’m sitting fourth row center Wednesday night in Chicago…I will be drinking, among other things…I will absolutely, respectfully enjoy every moment of the show…
I will show my appreciation at the appropriate times…and I will be able to leave under my own power…

    A note to Thomas Berry….

God, I was wondering when someone would finally mention “Near the End” – That solo kills me!! and is definately in my top 10!!

  62. Josh

Feat. Ed are you still wondering why people are guessing your identity? Well, it’s simple, because its amusing just like the caption competition that somehow got started or the Pink Floyd/David Gilmour cheese connection that is rolling along right here in this topic section. Personally, I kind of like it it makes this whole deal truly unique, and the thing is there will probably be a ton more fun little games among the bloogers in the future days. Hope this clears the air for ya.

P.S. (Who would of thought that this thing would take the turn it has, back in the early days of the blog huh?)

    Cheers Mate!

Happiness is two tickets to see DG at RAH. Row 2!!!

After a very unpleasant drive around the M25 I got home tonight to find my two tickets, and stunning seats at that.

Do I care anymore about the traffic, or the rain? No!!!

The oddest thing is that I find the tickets come courtesy of Harvey Goldmith and that is through whom I purchased my first ever Pink Floyd tickets, paying by postal order.

How far we’ve all come eh?

Anyway, I’ll not sleep too well between now and the 30th in case I misplace my treasured tickets.

To anyone who is going to be there, I’ve been to RAH many times and in fact will be there next week seeing Aussie Floyd, and it has great bars, so some pre match relaxation will be easy. See you all there on the night.

Interesting that despite the fact most of the people posting here love OAI, the concert reviews really focus on the Floyd songs in the second set. Maybe it’s the element of surprise (what’s it gonna be tonight, oh god don’t drop Echoes) since OAI is always played in full, but I’m sure it’s mainly because people remember and want to hear the tracks that they’ve loved for many years.

I was reminded of that when I went to see Robert Plant here in Brussels recently. His latest album is great, and went over well, but it was the old Led Zep songs that really brought the house down. The concert finished with an extended version of “Whole Lotta Love”, which was fantastic. Do he and the other 60 year olds touring at the moment (there’s a few) ever wonder if they can ever escape their past? On the other hand, would they want to? :)

Will find it difficult to handle the month’s break until RAH. David, since I understand you read this blog, just three small requests:

    (1) PLEASE don’t get sick during the month before RAH. Wrap up well, keep out of drafts, stay away from your kids if they have bugs, etc etc.

    (2) Don’t let my flight back from Russia on May 29th be delayed. OK, I know you’re not an air traffic controller, just some good thoughts would be nice …

    (3) Play “Wearing The Inside Out” on the 30th.

    Many thanks …

so i’m going to be at the 420 show in LA and i was curious about how the audiences have been as far as sitting/dancing. Are people standing and dancing most of the show, or only during certain songs. i personaly don’t like sitting during a performance, but if most of the crowd is sitting i will find a place to dance out of the way in order to be respectful. Also has there been much pot smoking at the shows? does that bother people? when i saw paul mccartney earlier in the year the older couple next to me were smokin a joint and proceeded to pass it down the row, which i might add is always good karma, and a younger guy behind all of us yelled at us and told us to put it out or he’ld call security, not because of the somoke but because it was pot. i was a bit taken back until the older couple said to me don’t mind him, this is phuckin paul mccartney and finished the joint.

    anyways good vibes to all

    The Good and The Bad:

The Good: TiVo’s descriptions of April 20th’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” finally says “David Gilmour performs”! It’s always good to get confirmation from a second source about these things.

The Bad: By changing the description, it erased my programming of the episode! I originally had a season pass for Leno, but I upgraded this episode to recorded several minutes early and late (can’t be too safe) and at “Best Quality” (because this one’s a keeper). But I guess because I changed those attributes for this episode, when it found out the episode had changed it deleted it altogether. I’ll have to keep an eye on that to make sure it do it again.

Your comments about playschool features ed is spot on, my mom said to me a while ago, that she used to sit me, my brother and my late sister in front of the t.v while said show was on and it gave her 20mins or so of time to get on with her household chores. Now I`m a parent myself I can understand this, because there is no time for anything with kids and NO WHEY, the beeb will ever make a programme like this again

A few days ago I promised to tell my story of how I became a Pink Floyd fan, so here it is. I tell it at the risk of inciting a riot amongst the masses….

It was 1984 I was about 15 when I met a new circle of friends in the Catskills area of New York State. My grandmother began sending me away for summers there to get me out of the city (apparently hanging out late and stealing vegetables to throw them at city buses was a bad thing).

These new friends had very different backgrounds and sensibilities than I was used to. I was listening to pop radio at the time (thus the explanation for Madonna’s ‘True Blue’ being my first album purchase, if you caught that post the other day). These new friends were listening to bands such as Styx, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, and, of course, Pink Floyd.

I became close friends with two big Floyd fans over time. My first introduction? The Final Cut. That first listen late one night made a profound impact. Perhaps it was the angst or the subject matter that struck a chord, but I was hooked. Then there was The Wall which solidified Floyd as my official favorite band.

I became indoctrinated through very Roger Waters-heavy albums by very Pro-Roger Waters friends. I was even given The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking….

Thus, my deep and dark confession to you all: I was once a Pro-Waters Gilmour hater….

My friends bashed Gilmour, and I, not knowing any better, believed Waters deserved all the credit for Pink Floyd whereas Gilmour was a lazy *sshole going along for the ride with Mason and Wright. I drank the kool-aid and relished the vitriolic Gilmour bashing like a devoted Waters acolyte.

    I know. I know….

Then, as time passed, I devoured all things Floyd. I read and listened to everything I could find. I bought all the albums, saved all the articles, met like minded fans, I did it all.

One winter day a city friend, who was also a Dead-head, said some unflattering things about Roger Waters’ personality, bass playing, and voice. I brushed him off as crazy at first, but then something happened.

I noticed very distinct differences in the timber of the Floyd voices. I eventually discovered that the songs I loved were not sung by Waters but Gilmour himself. I began appreciating the virtuosity of the guitar solos (and his Floyd bass playing) as my own musicianship improved. The Floyd back catalogue began to feel different to me.

It became increasingly clear that as Waters’ influence in the band increased the tonality and subject matter of the music followed a particular pattern. By the time 1987 and 1988 rolled around my feelings were mixed. I saw Waters on his KAOS tour and Gilmour with the revamped Floyd. It was obvious to me by 1989 how each of these guys influenced each other in the creative process, and I reformed.

No longer anti-Gilmour, I took in everything I could about him and listened to everything with a fresh ear. I bought his solo albums and 1984 concert video. I discovered a very different David Gilmour than the one I was brainwashed into seeing. Reading stories from those around these to Floydians revealed two very different people than the ones I first came to know. Gilmour seemed much more…relaxed and open…

I loved Amused to Death, but when I listened The Division Bell I heard what was distinctly a Pink Floyd sound in the tradition of their pre-Wall period with a 90′s pizzazz. I finally understood the errors of my ways, and I repented…

My reformation was complete, and I became a full-fledged Gilmour fan. My problem, however, was that I knew no one else who felt as I did. I was a closet Gilmour fan…

That was until I discovered this blog and you fans! You have no idea what a relief it is for me. This album, this tour, and the DG website/blog represents for me the ultimate “Coming Out Party”!

Throw in the reunion at Live 8 and I am complete. Watching them last July was like witnessing two divorced parents reconcile their differences (apologies to those who do have divorced parents).

When you see me around this blog, you will now know me and my dark story with a very happy ending!

    Thanks for reading it…..

End Scene: Angelo salutes his fellow fans, winks, turns slowly, and walks away with his “Bob Klose is Pink Floyd” t-shirt.

Just a few more thoughts on the Massey Hall concerts and then I will throw the lead over to the Chicago contingent.

Hey hello there UKVeronica, fyi Newmarket Ontario is a small town about 60 kilometres north of Toronto. I drive fast but it would be impossible to reach the destination you mention in that timeframe! We are proud of our ancestral roots and many of our towns and villages have names you would find familiar.

Ian P and Tom C my sincere condolences, I heartily recommend Elizabeth Kubler Ross’ book “On Death and Dying” it gives a very good perspective on the grieving process. This music has personally helped me through a very bad divorce and helped a dear, dear friend through two battles with cancer. Music may not heal what ails you, but it helps, boy does it help.

Now to the two concerts. In my opinion, you can’t get a bad seat at one of these concerts, Sunday in the nosebleed section with a 50 percent obstructed view and Monday 8 rows from the front (wahoo!!!)
I’m so glad I went to both shows, believe me you need the time to absorb all goodness. I’m sorry Rudders, I tut-tutted your concerns over the crowd, it came back to me, guys two rows in front of me had to be escorted out by security (after a lengthy debate right in front me, excellent view of security guy’s butt) and then my row mates to the left of me felt the need to catch up with each other, had to speak loudly though, hard to hear each other, I gave them one sentence, two sentences and after the third rather lengthy point, I said “guys come on there’s a concert here” and it worked, they stopped. Karma rules.

Do not be discouraged dear friends and fellow bloggers, focus, concentrate on those fat little fingers and all these petty things just fall away.

The first half, the On an Island segment was a holistic, mellow, musical treat. David was adding little bits and pieces everywhere. Just lovely. Every single musician was wonderful. I believe these fellows have found their comfort level with this material. The vocal harmonies, the meshing of the instruments was a thing of beauty. Take a breath totally rocks out. First half over, people could go home feeling they had seen the best show of their life. But that would be the end, no, you know it isn’t.

David is not one to rest on his laurels, create a bit of brilliance, market it and put it to bed and play it the same way ever after, not bloody likely. Shine On – oh my heavens. Okay, I have been thinking all day how to describe what I heard, maybe no one else heard it this way, but it is truly how I experienced it. I could see those wonderful talented hands pluck those guitar strings and I know it sounds weird, but in the beginning of Shine On, it seemed to me like David created the effect of a blanket of music, (strummed a chord and sustained it) and then tucked perfect little single notes underneath the blanket, next strum followed by little notes placed under the sustained chord. Wow, how tender, how magic, how brilliant.

Wearing the Inside Out -Richard Wright you are the man, this is your stand out. Richard this special event would not have been the same without your presence. Your touch on the keyboard is unmistakable and has become a hallmark of the sound. Your voice is wonderful as well. Thank you for coming to Canada, I hope your time here was as enjoyable for you as it was priceless for us, your fans.

Dominoes gave Phil a time to strut, well done Phil, I appreciate your presence.

Then David played “one for his girlfriend” and the crowd shouted “but what about your wife?” Yes, Canadians are that funny!

Two other moments I must mention. The end acoustic piece of High Hopes, please friends and bloggers, do not miss it, hold the applause, it is haunting and softly powerful and exquisite. The middle slide guitar part gets changed up as well.

Please understand, there are original variations for every piece being played. Stop thinking I want it to sound like it did when…and open your mind, ears and heart to the new experience of 2006.

Comfortably Numb, again I am brave enough to share my experience of it, no one need to agree with me, it’s how I heard it. To me, it seems that between Guy and Phil Manzanera they lay the foundation of the sound similar to when the glitter ball opens in Pulse and then David climbs on top of that wall, that musical foundation of sound, and just whales it. Experience it for yourself, it really is beyond my capacity to describe it further.

Guy you give your energy so generously, I know nothing about bass playing but I loved it when the floor throbbed and you got those moves baby!

Stevie, I again observed your enthusiasm and musical talent just refresh and envigor the whole crew on stage. Jon, couldn’t see you at all Sunday night, Monday night your back was to me, so I can only add that this was not a band of divas trying to top each other but a group of professional master musicians working to create the wonderful whole.

Dick Parry, I have previously blogged my opinion, excellent sir, just excellent.

Oh yeah, there was a light show too. Not content with providing music beyond compare, this group thinks, there’s something missing here. Marc, from the nosebleed section, it looked fabulous, and when I was fighting with myself about spending the money for a second show and an obstructed view as well, what decided it for me, I’ll see the fabulous light show in any event (thanks to a previous blog concerning RCMH) so I purchased that decadent second show ticket. Thank you. Then the next night I got to see the light show from the quality seats, blow my mind. Yikes, it was stupendous. Sometimes this show played like a stadium show with more heart and intimacy. In conclusion, I loved it, Toronto loved it, NYC loved it. Appreciate the trip across the pond fellows thanks.

That’s about all from me. I’m going to have to phone Visa, I don’t think I paid enough for the value of this experience.

Hey there Rudders, Howard and Tom.

Still a bit mystified by your reviews of Sunday show at Massey Hall. As for the fans they really weren’t that bad, after all it is rock and roll, certainly different than most, but still rock.

Yeah there may have been some periodic sound blips along the way, but this band is so tight that most people probably thought they were part of the show, including the fire alarm going off, at first I thought did I miss that on the album.

At any rate I have been to probably no less that 100 concerts since the 60′s and I have to say this, I may never go to another concert again, because none will compare to this production, unless of course it is David Gilmour. The bar has been set.

Boys, I think I know what you guys are going through, and Howard touch on it. He thinks this may be the last time David performs live and he may very well be right, we hope not though. I think what we are all suffering from here is post concert depression. My daughter and my son and myself went to see Coldplay a couple of weeks before the Gilmour show. My Daughter was looking forward to that show since December like I have been for David’s concert. It was a fabulous concert good music, great lights, and a helluv a young guitarist. (reminded me a bit of a young David Gilmour as he can stretch a note forever also.)Anyway the point of this rambling is my daughter has been moping around the house since that concert and when I asked her what was wrong she says she is depressed because the Coldplay conert if over, my wife and my son and I laughed. Now the Gilmour concert is over and my son (who was at that show with me and two other buddies) and I are moping around the house like our dog just died, (my wife and daughter are now laughing at us ). I have checked in with my friends that were at the show and are also huge Floyd/Gilmour fans and they feel the same way.

Guys, that’s how good this man is and we all fear we may never get to see him perform live again, especially in a venue as quaint as Massey Hall.

Hey Fed, you must keep the blog alive to help us all through the Gilmour concert withdrawls, which you will be going through yourself after the RAH gig you are going to. Hopefully there will be a dvd, it will help in a lot of ways.

    Later everyone and still well.

    George.
I have recieved my 29th RAH tickets but not a pair! I have one in row 5 and one in row 6 (block O)
I didn’t know they were sending them out already. I ordered my RAH tickets for 30th May from seetickets.com. Received an email from http://www.specialmail.co.uk telling me they should be delivered on the 24th of February, between 8am-6pm, and I haven’t heard a thing since. Hope nothing has gone wrong, anyone had the same happen?

I’m 18 and only got into the Floyd two years back. Will be seeing 3 out of 4 members live this year, which still leaves me with Nick Mason to see (book signings aren’t for me) so I’m very excited. Nice site, I read it every day.
