Chatroom

ven_blog.jpg

I’m really pleased to announce that our chatroom is now open.

If you saw the sneaky latest poll, you probably figured out already that a chatroom was on its way. It’s nice to know that so many of you will be using it.

Before you rush there to find that it’s closed, there are just a few rules and suggestions.

If you could use the names you’ve used on the blog, that would obviously help everyone know who’s who.

It’s not going to be open all the time. The initial idea is that I arrange a set time, schedule a session (details to be posted on the calendar) and just see how it goes. It’ll also be open whenever I’m bored, so do keep an eye on it to see when it’s open.

Now for the boring stuff.

If you remain inactive for thirty 15 minutes, you get kicked out. So don’t be shy, say something!

You can’t write endlessly. There’s a 200-character maximum each time you ‘speak’ to keep things moving (199 characters have been used in this paragraph to give you an idea of how much you can write in one go).

Please don’t SHOUT, as your text will automatically be converted to lower case with the first letter of each word capitalised, which looks really stupid.

Private messaging is, for the moment, disabled.

Feel free to talk about (almost) whatever you want, but please bear in mind the rules of the blog and that this is an official artist site. I really don’t want to have to eject anyone for taking things too far.

Therefore, the usual applies to talk of bootlegging, tribute bands, fansites, etc.

Hope you like it.

It will be open for most of today, so come and help me test it.

Nice add on to the site, i’ll be sure to check in when i get out of this hell hole aka work.

Don’t suppose any of the band are going to drop in? that would be (el) magnificent!

lets hope it doesn’t go the way of the pinkfloyd official forum and chat site. Many thanks to the powers that be for getting this feature up and running!

is there now a Ch*ed then?

[No, I'm afraid it's just me. You never know who might drop in, though. - Features Editor]

A chat room? Very brave of you (and David), Edwina. Hope you’ll be getting a little something extra in your pay packet for this. Dealing with us real-time should be an experience, to put it mildly. I suppose it will be open when most of us Yanks are at work or asleep due to the time difference, unless you open up for business on weekends.

Make sure Guy knows he can’t lurk under some name like “Bambi.”

    Happy Wednesday,

All these computer terms that have you have to learn when you are a music fan. I taught myself ‘word’ and ‘excel’ when I wanted to catalouge my LP’s and CD’s. I have just found out how to download. I s**t myself when I first bought a CD securely on line. I then found out what a blog was. Then just when you think you know it all we have the Chatroom. Better get in there then……

    See you in there

Fed, I have been with the blog since last dec.05, But I’m not sure of the glass statue that you are talking about. Plus I’m really hope this works for I never been on a chat line and little worried.I guess being in my mid-fifty’s, New things can be scarey.

    Happy Wednesday (3),

Well, as per normal, I tried and failed. It was a bit dark in there and I was soon disabled.

    Q. For user name I put ‘the password’ but I guess that was wrong. So do I use the user name that I use here?

    Pete – Coventry

[Don't give up, Pete. We're really motoring in there now. Put down your name for 'username' so that we all know who you are. That will get you into the Lobby. Then, to go into the area which is reserved for Blog Irregulars only, you'll need the secret password. - Features Editor]

If we log on, trying to find our way round, and it takes more than 30 minutes, I assume we get booted off, is that right? Looks like it will take 30 hours to me!!

    FEd,

My hats off to you, once again, for adding something really valuable to this amazing group of Gilmour Bloggers. A real time chat room.

Its been narry 8 years since I’ve been in one, but found them very user friendly and invaluable to direct contact with other like minded fans.

I’ll be in there whenever I can (today looks to be a good day as I have only 1 patient in the books… not to say I’m a bad doctor or anything, but its just a normally slow day).

I hope to see some of you this afternoon!

    Darren

[Nice one, Darren. Hope to see you later. - Features Editor]

Have you discovered a cure for constipation? Well done my Coventronian friend!

I don’t know?.. I just made it up but it sounds right…

    Hi,F.Ed

I missed out on the Best and Worst, but I understand why it was closed. There wasn’t really anything new from what was already there.

A chatroom? Sounds great. I just hope it maintains the same atmosphere and feel as the Blog.

One question about the Chatroom hours, with the global fan base and all kinds of time zones, will some people be stuck with it being open from 2-7 AM, for example? Not to be demanding or selfish, but it woouldn’t seem equal to me if the only way people in other parts of the world could chat would be during sleep hours or work hours.

Anyways, hope it goes well with the Chat.

    Have agreat day,
    Mike

[Thanks, Mike. We'll get a good mix of hours, don't worry about that. The blog software has been a bit awkward as of late, so the 'Best and worst' entry has been closed and re-opened quite a few times. It's open now. - Features Editor]

    Dear Fed,

What a great idea!!!! I definitely will try it out!

I know it’s completely out of topic, but I’ve got some questions about “Comfortably Numb”, if you will allow me.

The song was supposed to be on David’s first solo album, but never used. Do you know:

    * What was the title of the song at the time?
    * Did David had any lyrics written for it and if so, what were they? (If not, maybe some bloggers might have some suggestions for it….)
    * Is there a demo of the song in its initial stages?

It’s hard to imagine the song, that so rightly deserved the title “best solo ever”, in a different shape or form……

    Just wondering…..

    Take care. Stef.

[It was a demo from the time of David's first solo album. I don't know much about it other than that. David did play part of it on UK radio many years ago and it's him playing guitar, harmonising over the top. There were no words as such, but it was unmistakable. You knew what you were listening to at once. - Features Editor]

I would like to wish to Roger Waters an happy birthday!!!!!!!

OMG Fed are you sure you are ready to coordinate this band of fools..?

I hope it will be used with good sense, we all appreciate this effort. Thanks.

Hi FEd, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed chatting to you and some of the other Bloggers in the new chat rooms, I am new to using chatrooms but with a little help from you it was great fun.

I will have another go later ;o)

[Thank you very much. - Features Editor]

  16. ronny

Congratulations with the chatroom. Just been there, never i was before in a chatroom though. So if i make mistakes, please forgive.

Can i do some bobbing about The Blue?: 12 Times undulating was entered, included the one in Fed’s list. Am i missing something? Can You please explain to a humble not native English speaking guy how that word got so popular? Or are you sure nobody’s hacking your laptop Fed?
And what about “bobbing”? I looked it up and it has several meanings. Did you have anything in mind there?

Finally, this one’s for the nitpicking corner: Roberto winning the shirt it’s not really an important announcement, is it. You will run out of superlatives … No, you must have run into a form-field that you could not edit, right? Gosh you are impeccable Fed.

[Just imagine bobbing gently on the waves. I think that word is the one that sticks out for me most of all. It's such an atmospheric album and never is the sense of the sea clearer than on 'The Blue'. As for Undulating, then I guess they all have the same dictionary as me after all. - Features Editor]

  17. Peter

    [Well done my Coventronian friend!]

It is Coventrian. (If memory serves you are an honarary Coventrian from the parish of Allsley)However in true Rudders fashion Coventronian sounds pretty good actually.

    Pete the Coventronian

  18. Melissa

I’m scared. I have never been in a chat room.

What do you mean by irregulars? What constitutes being an irregular. I absolutely read here more than I post.

Can you somehow know who the lurkers are?
If you get booted off for inactivity can you log back in?

    Sorry for all the questions.

    Melissa ?????

[Anyone who reads the blog regularly and has posted enough to be recognised by the majority, is considered an 'Irregular'. We can all see who is chatting and if they're getting involved or not. If you get kicked out, you can usually come straight back in. This is designed for busy times when there might just be more people wanting to get in than is actually possible. Obviously we would have to boot out the lurkers if they were hogging all the space. - Features Editor]

  19. Melissa

By the Way thanks to Polly for the new pics from Gdansk. I have been checking for them everyday, numerous times.

    Melissa(*_*)

  20. Words have no meaning...

Hi, great news with the chatroom, so what is the position of the blog now? Is it still going to be updated or is it being phased out?

[It's absolutely not being phased out. They'll work very well together. - Features Editor]

  21. Aldo

Maybe we are wishing an happy birthday to a great musician as david. Is there something wrong with this? Is Roger Waters totally a stranger for david?

    Aldo

  22. Matt Parish

PS : I hope David has said a Happy birthday to Roger ;-)

  24. Antoine Meunier

    Hello F.ed,

Very good idea about this chatroom. But for my part, I enjoy coming on the blog. It’s fun to get (when you are able to do) a message from you.

    Have a nice day.

    F’Ed,

Tried to get in but there seems to be a hang up with the java plug-ins on my laptop. Aarrrgh!

BTW, I will be seeing Jon Carin in concert tonight in Holmdel, New Jersey. I understand he is playing with some cat named Rog.

    Ciao for now,
    Michael

[Enjoy the concert, Michael. Don't forget to wish Roger a happy birthday, for God's sake. Hope you can join us in the chatroom next time. - Features Editor]

Maybe so won’t have the image of being spoiled sports. I would think it might be a little natural since we all started out as “Floyd” fans. Well maybe not all of us.

Wonder if Roger’s site would do the same for David? Hmmmm

    Melissa (*_*)

[It's very boring, isn't it? Even a birthday kicks up the same old nonsense. - Features Editor]

  30. Piergiorgio

    Ciao,

very good idea, thanks. Now I think I cannot use it from work, gosh. you know there are people here that want us to work during work time?. It’s crazy, isn’t it ?!?!? hehe

So I didn’t understand the password thing. what am I (apart from being a pain in the arse, obviously)? Irregular? regular?

    Ciao. :-)

[If you know the password, then you're very welcome. - Features Editor]

  31. Matt Johns

Good stuff, FEd – like the chatroom. Can see me returning often to have a realtime natter with the fine people here…

  32. Erin

Great Chatroom Fed!! Thanks! Is there going to be a link from the homepage, or do we have to go through the one on the blog?

I hope David and the family is enjoy settling back into “home” life

F*Ed, I appeciate the chat room feature but don’t really have the patience for or the grasp of it.

I’m one of those ‘ol dog/new tricks kinda mules…

[It did get very busy, didn't it? - Features Editor]

  37. Vince Carr

    Hi Fed,

I’m about David’s age and pretty computer literate, having just sorted out the Java business in order to chat, but I’ve never used a chat room before, just various blogs.

I got into the lobby and you were there and I was about to ask for help, when you moved into the Barn to chat with Rudders etc.

So I entered the password and there I was, excluded. Can you help me please?

‘Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way’ c R. Walters

[My apologies, Vince. As the chatroom had been open since before midday, I closed it a 8pm to give my overloaded brain a breather. It must have just been rotten timing. As long as the password worked for you and you got in, there shouldn't be any future problems. - Features Editor]

  38. Stephanie

    Hi,

I´m just back from the chatroom and it´s funny. Maybe a little bit fast if you are no English native speaker. I´m sure I´ll join it again but prefer the blog. So I hope they´ll both work together.

    Stephanie

[They will do, I'm sure of that. Thanks for dropping in, Stephanie. It was nice to see you. - Features Editor]

Hi Fed sorry its been a while but my computer blew up so i have had to buy a new one so here it is im back with you all well a belated word on Abbey Road

i even foud out my wife is giving birth to a baby boy so we have agreed on the name Aaron Luke Floyd Emery as a tribute

thanks Fed for giving me the greatest of days and please don think i was ungrateful not getting back to you sooner to say thankyou but as you can see severe Computer problems anyway ill sign of for now so see you later

[I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it, Simon. Congratulations on your expected arrival. - Features Editor]

[Why are we wishing Roger Waters a Happy Birthday on David's site?]

Just because we are very nice people like Polly said

  41. jym

is there going to be a dvd release of the current tour?

[Yes. There will be a DVD out in early 2007. - Features Editor]

  42. Michèle

Lesley, we are proud to be David’s fans, not ‘fanatic’ ones, so could we be tolerant enough to accept birthday wishes from everyone to everyone ?

    Michèle

  43. David Tankersley

Anxiously awaiting the opportunity to chat real time with other irregulars! It will quite probably keep me from getting my work done, however….

  44. John Covert

    Dearest Fed

    Chat Room – Aces!

I was wondering what we were going to do with no tour to discuss.

    Very cool.

    Thanks
    John

  45. Tim C (helpfully)

Maybe an obvious comment by now but updating Java as prompted gives the full chatroom experience for those who didn’t get it first time round.

  46. BART89

    Hello FED!

This chat room idea is great:) I just went there it said it was enough for that day but Im waiting to chat to all you – wonderful people!

FED you’re great that you created this!

    Greetings

P.S. What is it going with this password room, cause I dont understand it clearly:P?

[When you enter the chatroom, you find yourself in the Lobby. However, there's an extra room just for those people who communicate here regularly. You need a password to get in and the password is the name of the beautiful glass statue that Ian made for me. If you go back and look at the first entry for June, you'll see what I mean. Hope to chat with you soon. - Features Editor]

    [Of course! It's "What God Wants" isn't it? (sorry for that, couldn't resist....)}

Ha, ha. That made me laugh so loud that I nearly woke up my baby daughter. Oh, I love politics sometimes.

I had a go at the chat at the office during my break today and my office computer did not accept Java. When I had a go tonight, the chat room was closed down. :-( Better luck next time I guess.

    Regards.

Guess I arrived to the chatroom after hours…I’m looking forward to trying again tomorrow…

    Cheers!

  49. Rudders - Toronto

    Hmmmm….

Haven’t the Blog posts dropped off with the Chat Room test…

And before anyone suggests it’s a labour saving device for the Fedmeister think again! :-)

It’s a good addition to the site although more rooms may help spread the load and maybe the rooms could have names of topics?

    1. OAI Tour
    2. DG Albums
    3. The Barn – password protected
    4. Anything Else…

    Just a suggestion…

[The blog can be very disobedient at times and decides that it doesn't want to co-operate. Thanks for the suggestions. - Features Editor]

  50. Michèle

    - First, maybe I’m an idiot, but, who is (or was) Alan Partridge ?

    - A chatroom… strange… I thought you didn’t want at all of any kind of forum, but surely it’s a proof of faith to us ( ? = preuve de confiance), and if so, I’m delighted, that’s very kind of you and David !

    - Sorry, I don’t understand [Please don't SHOUT, as your text will automatically be converted to lower case with the first letter of each word capitalised, which looks really stupid.]

    Michèle

['Shouting' in the chatting sense is when people type in capital letters only. Please don't do that. Alan Partridge is a rather dull TV character. Click your name to find out more. Not that I'm promoting his name, you understand. I didn't write the Latest News piece and I think the show's a load of rubbish. - Features Editor]

FEd,This is the best site ever. I have always been afraid of chat rooms and the people that are on it. But everyone on David’s site are true fans and it’s great to finally get to respond with them all, For they are like family to me. Like Tomasz, Rudders, Lucia(spelled just like my wifes’ name),Matt and the GREAT FEd, Plus many others I didn’t mention(because there are so many). But now with you in control of the site, FEd. I feel that this site will remain enjoyable and Secure from the few that like to cause head aches for all.

Again Thank-You David, Polly and the Master Mind FEd.

    Thomas

PS, I live in Oregon and when you sign on at 12:00pm. It’s 4:00am here. The only way I knew that something was going to happen today was what you posted me yesterday. So I set my alarm to see what all the excitement was for today at 4:00am. I know that this will be hard to do, But do you think that later in the future that you might be able to have a time for different hours of the day to sign on(I know that this has just started and you wanted to see how it is going to work). But I and many other fans would like to be able to take part in it too.

[After all those kind words, Thomas, I guarantee it. Please suggest some good times to chat and we'll schedule some dates/times on the calendar. - Features Editor]

  52. adrian kavanagh

Good idea Features ed, just trying to sort out this java thing so my computer will let me in!

  53. adrian kavanagh

    To Michael in New Jersey,

I was having similar problems, but found downloading the java upgrade `manualy`(an option on the main java page) worked on my laptop.

    Hope this helps.

  54. SIMON EMERY

Just one more add about Abbey Road that i forgot David actualy broke a string and someone i think it was Phil said he had never known him break a string

he was also having great trouble with the sound of his accoustic guitar while playin smile from what i could make out he was not happy with the sound so half way through he stopped and that was when Polly said it could not end this way and suggested Echoes-only as a joke i think as clearly the band where shattered and ready to finish none of us thought they would actually treat us to an accoustic version

he also shouted up to us 5 winners and our friends “I hope your not too bored up there” was he kidding i was praying for 10 takes of each song selfishly.

Anyway mate see ya later, cant wait to get on Broadband ,Dial up just does not cut it im changing supplier but tery take ages, and we are the customers, its good to be back bye for now ive missed you all

  55. nickster

Nice one FEd and DG.com people…looking forward to using it and meeting you all inside.

I know the chatroom is barely out, but if it’s not going to be open all the time could we have a status indicator somewhere? (Open/Closed type thing, maybe with ‘Next chat at…’ ?). Sorry to be so demanding :)

    N

[If you suggest some preferred times, we can schedule some slots on the calendar for all to see. But to keep things a little less manic, I thought it might be nice to have blog-only chats every once in a while. It did get very busy yesterday and many people found it difficult to keep up. - Features Editor]

  56. John(not from Florida)

I’m a little bit confused.(Brain Damage) Correct me if I’m wrong F.E., but it sounds to me like regular readers and posters are considered irregulars. Please help me unscramble this paradox in my foggy mind.

[It's a bit on the strange side, but it's true. I forget who labelled the regulars 'Irregulars', but it stuck. - Features Editor]

  57. kimberley

Okay, the chat room sounds like fun, but daunting for some of us illiterate in the ways of computer. I can just about MSN messenger with my daughter when she is at her Dad’s place, is it the same idea?

Please post the times it will be open as it is 7 pm here in Canada and it appears closed for now, I will check back later (if I can tear my daughter away from our shared computer).

I think it is cool that this site just continues to evolve!

  58. Vicky

    Hi Fed

Great idea about the chatroom, although I doubt my boss will be pleased that you have provided me with yet another excuse not to do any work!

I just popped in to have a look around, but unsurprisingly, at midnight, its closed! I guess its the world’s way of telling me i should go to bed. :-)

The chatroom is quite exciting. It moves very fast though. . .but it certainly was a treat to speak in real time with other ‘Irregulars’! I do like it, but boy can it eat up a significant amount of time. . .that’s O.K. though, as I like spending time with my friends.

Thanks FEd and everyone who integrated it to make it work. At least we know you’re not resting on your laurels. . .lol

  62. Lynn

The chatroom is just wonderful, FEd! Bravo again for all the work you do. We are very spoiled here! It was so hard to focus on work today, thinking maybe, just maybe the chatroom was still open….

    Thank you for your time.

I clicked in and entered, but no password yet, I guess that comes later? Never been on a chat room, come to think of it, I’ve never blogged before either, until last Dec. It’s your fault Fed. LOL.

[We'll make a geek out of you yet, Frank. You just need a name to get in and as far as the Lobby, which is where everyone congregates. To venture to the Barn (the blog's very own private room), you need the password. The password is the name of the fine glass statue that Ian so very kindly made for me. If you need reminding, look at the first blog entry for June. - Features Editor]

Sorry Fed messed up “username” and “password” re chat room so now highly embarressed. Best wishes to those that use it. I’ll stick with this site if I may. My employer (quite rightly) blocks access to “chatrooms”, and too much thinking to use home computer. Love the idea of using THE pasword though.

    Have a great weekend

Hi all, long time no speak. I have been visiting, just not had the time to post my thoughts lately.

Great idea the chatroom. I am concerned though that I can’t remember the name of the blown glass statue you were so kindly given Fed. I’m sure it will come to me, I don’t want to feel like an outcast though!!!!

Anyway good to see the site coming on even stronger,

    Keep up the good work,
    Dave

this has to be done (apologies to any spanish readers):

We’re not Brazil we’re NORN IRON! get in! get in!

was too busy with the match to make it in to the chatroom last night. Ah the dog ate my homework etc etc. Hope I don’t get detention…

[You worry too much, my friend. It must be all that Radiohead... - Features Editor]

ah! ah! ah! Despite all, you always make me laugh! You should tell silliness more often. You are really good to do that! But if the music makes the person, I wonder what you was listening to when you first wrote [The same from everyone involved at davidgilmour.com. - Features Editor] and then, when you wrote [I think some people will wonder the same thing. - Features Editor] and then, when you wrote [It's very boring, isn't it? Even a birthday kicks up the same old nonsense. - Features Editor]. At the end, I didn’t understand wich was your point about the possibility to say “Happy Birthday” to Roger Waters! ;-)

Have a great day, my dear!

    L!

[I wish you the same, mate. I'm just keeping you all on your toes. I have to have my fun somehow. It's a small reward for getting square eyes. By the way, I was listening/dancing to 'The Birdie Song' first, then sobbing along to Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bright Eyes' (thinking of Watership Down and those poor rabbits... Is a birthday really that important?). Finally, I was over-analysing 'Radio KAOS' and just gave in. - Features Editor]

Hi, can you please make the dvd cover better than the cd cover,,I have ruined 2 “on an island” cd’s.. That black thing that holds the cd is worn-out on both.. that sucks! So today i’m going to buy a new one that i’ll never tuch..

Unbelievable !! This site never fails to amaze me. Looking forward to visiting the chat room when it is open.

    What a great idea.

Got to head out in a little while but back later this afternoon – will try knocking on the chatroom door later on.

    Hi Fed,

    Great news about the chatroom.

Pity I didn’t find it until late last night, by which time it was shut.

Hey I thought how about a chat at Lunchtime today, when my bosses unlock the Internet for an hour or so; but what do I get? “sorry the chat room is closed”

Lunchtime in the UK would be a good time to have it open – don’cha think?

Will keep trying to bang on the door and get through the lobby!

  75. Graham Knight

    Hi Fed,

i went into the chatroom a couple of times yesterday & i was at work, i did n’t expect it to let me in, due to fire walls etc, however it did. I think it is going to be addictive i will have to ration myself when im at work to lunchtimes because i think before long 5 minutes chatting will quickly become 30 minutes, & so on.

I just hope everybody behaves while chatting, im sure most of us will but there is allways some one who gets a kick out of upsetting some one knowing they have an audience.Would it be possible at some stage to introduce an ignore/block button similar to yahoo etc.It may save having someone having to constantly moderate the room.

Still a great idea though Fed.

will there be a “Chad” as well as a “Fed” now?

[I'm looking forward to booting people out if they misbehave, Graham. There'll be an umbrella stand full of pointy sticks in the Lobby, so we can all be raging, blood-thirsty lunatics for a moment or two should the need ever arise. If there's any trouble, I will be able to issue warnings and gag people if necessary. The chat will be fully moderated at all times, so potential trouble-makers won't bother anyone for very long. - Features Editor]

For info: David Gilmour-live (Mermaid Theatre 2006) on the official national belgian classic-rock radio: “Classic21″, at september 8, 21h (21h in Belgium = 08 PM in England, because of the time difference), everybody can listen to through the site of Classic 21′.

See the link and scroll down to David’s picture to watch the info.

    Enjoy !

    Hi Fed,

Just been looking at the Pix of Gdansk. You’d think some one important or famous was on stage!

It reminded me of what David said in the podcast from Astoria early in the year ” I just want to play a few intimate dates on a short tour.”

What mighty oaks from little acorns grow!

ps Was Guy wearing a “Hammers” Teeshirt? And I don’t mean West Ham either.

[Guy was wearing his usual 'Didn't They Do Well?' shirt, but he rather cleverly stuck a Solidarity sticker on the top. They did far better than Arsenal have ever done, after all. - Features Editor]

Oh ! Yes !, Alan Partridge !!! interesting indeed !!! thank you for the link. Lucky english people ! Would it be possible that you watch on TV more (oh, I like this word…) than in France ? I thought we were the champions…hmmm…at least for idiotic TV programs…poor England and poor France…

    Michèle

[Oh Michèle, TV on the whole is absolutely atrocious. You wouldn't believe some of the rubbish that's on. They don't call it an Idiot Box for nothing. - Features Editor]

No luck with the chatroom today – I guess being in a completely different time zone from Europe and the US isn’t helping.

    Will try tomorrow…

hallo,in juli/august 68 i see a band in hyde park but i dont know who was it, some idea?

I really see no reason for a chat room other than (if allowed )sharing addresses of other posters for trading purposes. When this site first opened we were allowed to do that and just when a few folks were getting ready to trade stuff down came the gavel of our dear F*Ederal Judge. :)

    I mean Wot’s Uh…the deal, with that?

    ( F*Ed, I totally understand, just breaking chops… )

[There'll be no trading going on, I can assure you of that. Why should anyone be allowed to trade anything on David's official website? There's no private messaging allowed and the chats will always be moderated. The rules are there and if people can't follow them, they'll simply be kicked out. The introduction of a chatroom is merely to allow you to communicate faster than you ever could through the blog, should you wish to chat with other fans. From the way friendships have been forged on the blog, it seems that people do want to communicate. The blog software has been a tad temperamental for a while now and this has further slowed down the flow of any conversation. The blog format never really allowed for dialogue anyway, and we were never going to have a forum after the way some fans behaved on the official Pink Floyd site. So you get a bit of both here. I realise that it will still not be enough for some, but that's tough. You have to admit that we're so damn nice here at davidgilmour.com. However, if the fans mess it up by behaving badly, we'll just take it away. - Features Editor]

    Hi Fed

thank you for your brilliant idea!!

I’m not able to connect the chat room and every time I try I can read on the display a message to try an alternative.

Now I live in Italy, have you heard anyone with my same problems? Thank you and have a kiss from Rome

[That is strange, Diana. We've had plenty of Italians in the chatroom over the last two days. I think we've actually had more Italians than any other nationality! My advice would be to ensure that you have the latest Java version on your computer. Click your name below and download the latest. - Features Editor]

[Why should anyone be allowed to trade anything on David's official website?]

To share with others and in turn receive the love for all things Gilmour. To be honest with you F*Ed I could never understand why an artist would NOT want their fans to share stuff. It can only promote the artist and help generate more interest. I just never saw the harm, especially for an already financially established artist. But that said, I TOTALLY respect the decision of DG.com. I wouldn’t want to offend or alienate any of the friends made here…

[No offence taken. - Features Editor]

AMEN to that ED . For many years I have been in and out of Floyd releted sites on forums chatrooms and the likes . From time to time i’d type davidgilmour.com just to see if he was up and running , then about “I think ” 4 years ago he won the rights to use his name then last year you guys got the site up and away and since then pure well run bliss. Never has this site dissapointed not once .

So I say to all the irregulars out there lets be nice and play fair as I’m sure we will do, and all those that want to be bold and throw hammers sorry I mean spanners into the works I say run run run run , run run run run you better make your face……. you know the rest.

Ed the chatroom is a fantastic idea and I love the name Barn very apt indeed.

FEd, just hada brief dip in the chat rooms, what can I say, it’s brilliant to get to talk, ‘real time’ with people and learn a little more about them. It’s a fantastic idea and don’t let anyone tell you different ;)

The rules are not at all onerous in my opinion, if people want to do ‘other’ things there are ‘other’ places to go.

    More power to your elbow!

hmmmm, I am not allowed from work to get in the chat, obviously. And I have not tried from home yet. But I will, I will…… Very bad that I cannot do from here form time to time.

    ciao a tutti. :-)

A very good idea to have a chat room but I’m not too sure if my company will be happy with me being on it.

But I hope to have go anyway very soon!!!
