Chatroom

ven_blog.jpg

I’m really pleased to announce that our chatroom is now open.

If you saw the sneaky latest poll, you probably figured out already that a chatroom was on its way. It’s nice to know that so many of you will be using it.

Before you rush there to find that it’s closed, there are just a few rules and suggestions.

If you could use the names you’ve used on the blog, that would obviously help everyone know who’s who.

It’s not going to be open all the time. The initial idea is that I arrange a set time, schedule a session (details to be posted on the calendar) and just see how it goes. It’ll also be open whenever I’m bored, so do keep an eye on it to see when it’s open.

Now for the boring stuff.

If you remain inactive for thirty 15 minutes, you get kicked out. So don’t be shy, say something!

You can’t write endlessly. There’s a 200-character maximum each time you ‘speak’ to keep things moving (199 characters have been used in this paragraph to give you an idea of how much you can write in one go).

Please don’t SHOUT, as your text will automatically be converted to lower case with the first letter of each word capitalised, which looks really stupid.

Private messaging is, for the moment, disabled.

Feel free to talk about (almost) whatever you want, but please bear in mind the rules of the blog and that this is an official artist site. I really don’t want to have to eject anyone for taking things too far.

Therefore, the usual applies to talk of bootlegging, tribute bands, fansites, etc.

Hope you like it.

It will be open for most of today, so come and help me test it.

Has DG made any plans for 2007?

I know he has just finished an amazing tour but us fanatics like to plan ahead………

    Hi FEd and everyone!

Frank, you’re not alone in the ‘first time’ status re chat rooms or (god I hate this word!) blogging (chringe). And, yes, that chatting business does move quickly … it was pretty challenging first-thing in the morning! I hope that after the initial meet-and-greet sessions there will be actual discussions about David’s music, etc. and less reunion business. And, after all the boys pass the cigars around, let’s visit a little more … just joking Rudders, kinda!

Welcome back Simon!! Were your ears burning yesterday?

FEd, completely understood your answer to Lucia. Depending upon what you might be listening to at a given time, your mood/energy can ebb and flow … you don’t happen to listen to Velvet Underground, do you? I wonder what a ‘White Light, White Heat’ binge would do to your composure???

Thanks for being willing to subject yourself to even more grief (or is it the money? yeah, that’s it Adrien …), but remember there’s always the joyous flipside, right?

    Peace!

Just wanna congratulate this site on its new Chatroom feature.

Also wanna congratulate Roger Waters on his birthday.

I’m off to Ireland now FE, on the booze, wallowing in my own self-pity! I LOVE IT!!!!!

How many of those “Didn’t he do well” t-shirts does Guy have? If it’s just the one can you tell me which soap powder he uses because it washes beautifully.

Thanks for addressing the Java issue. I did get it sorted out only after I deleted the old Java version first.

[Why are we wishing Roger Waters a Happy Birthday on David's site?]

    well said Leslie! I agree!

    Bye FED and FANS!

  10. Vince Carr

    Fed,

If David were to join us in the chatroom, having put a great deal of hard work into OAI, he is perhaps more interested in that than questions on PF albums, and rightly so. Yet, with the recent issue of the P*U*L*S*E DVD set, many folk want to discuss PF stuff from that, and as played on his tour.

Although PF questions will never go away, for it is etched on our grey matter, the forthcoming and waited for release of the 2006 OIA Tour DVD set, will focus more minds on the OAI songs, as well as people’s favourites from the PF catalogue.

There are stacks of folks who are anticipating the release of the OAI Tour DVD’s, so that they can refresh their memories of one or more of the fantastic concerts from 2006.

It must surely be a very exciting and creative time in David’s life and what I hope is a very happy period for David, Polly & family.

    Vince.

Now you’ve explained how listening to music affects your mood and posts, I get the impression that I recently caught you listening to “smack my bitch up” when I posted – is it a regular routine? Perhaps if I send you a copy of “shiny happy people” I could improve my chances?

    Hi Fed

    The Chat was great today.

By the way, I tried to go into the barn, I switched rooms, got kicked out, and could not log back in, with an error message of ‘access denied, username already in use’ or something similar. I’ll try again tomorrow.

As a suggestion, how about having high profile visitors to the Chat go into the Barn? A vast majority of the Barn irregulars I think are sensible enough to use a little more discretion and respect than the Johnny Come Lately’s.

Anyways, have a great evening, all

    Mike

  14. Melissa

I have a comment about that chat room. WOW!!

It is so fast paced. I can’t read that fast let alone type that fast.

I will absolutely come in and out of the chat rooms, but I am not a good conformist so I kind of like the relaxed atmosphere of the blog.

Aint I so boring? Don’t answer that.

    The Chatroom!

I don’t think so much activity has occurred since the Roof/Rooves debate happened around the time we all had less grey hair and could see the bathroom scales when we stood on them… speaking metaphorically of course!

Fedmeister wrote “Please suggest some good times to chat”

Depending on how flexible you are to cover the various time zones you could try, on different days:

    1. 12 – 2pm GMT (EMEA Focus)
    2. 4 – 6pm GMT (North America Focus)
    3. 8 – 10pm GMT (Asia Pacific)

    Stef,

My surname definitley dosn’t start with a “W” [actually its an"L"]. But it was my wedding aniversary on 6th September,(31 Years)-(Same age as WYWH) so maybe there is some sort of spooky link!!.

But the teeshirt does look like marching Hammers, or am I seing things that aren’t there.

  18. Stuart

I saw Floyd in 73 and other years after. Theres no one better. I saw Roger Waters on his birthday in New Jersey last night, he needed 2 guitarists to take David’s place. It was, after all a pretty good show.

I sincerely regret missing David’s show in April. The soul of the music lies with David Gilmour. I am praying that he comes to the states again for another tour. Stuart. My 15 year old son idolizes you.

  19. CLAUDIO

Dear FED the idea of a chatroom is good but for me is very difficult to connect because I really work too much! and from the PC of my company is impossible to connect to the Blog.

I only hope that the Blog can go on for a lot of time and (why not?) forever.

The Blog is the only place where is possible to share with the other fans (and you FED), thoughts, ideas, feelings about David and Floydian music.

I hope to see David next year on the stage again and I want to say that for me OAI is a masterpiece very close to the most famous and beautiful Floydian album (let me say that it’s impossible to compare OAI with the other David’s solo album!!!!).

I really think that OAI is the only album where is possible to discover new and different sensations every time i listen to it (the INTRO gives me unbelievable sensations and it reminds me of the Sound Check of the gigs in Venice….).

Thank you very much indeed David for this new wonderful present!

Good Night dear FED and dear FANS!

    Claudio from Ravenna.

Hye fed and all nice to have a quick chat with you fed i look forward to many more to come. missed the chat room today because of that swear word, work. I dont suppose you need an assistant fed i make a great brew.

I wonder if roger had a party, maybe not i dont think anyone would turn up miserable old bugger, sat there with 13 channels of shit on the tv to choose from. Hope i have not overstepped the mark there fed.

    Hi all,

hey Fed… I’m thinking it was Rudders who first called us “irregulars”. Not that it matters… just “trivializing”. How’s THAT for a word Rudders?

And Tim C. if you’ve spent any time at all on the blog you would know two things the Fed especially hates: Radiohead, followed closely by REM. Send “shiny happy people” and I thinks she will make sure “everybody hurts” and it just might be the “end of the world as I know it”.

And Fed- I’m sure you posted it, but I never saw your list of words for the Blue acrostic. Can you paste it for me?

    Tim

    hey F’Ed,

    Hows it going?

I was trying to logon to the chat room from work and it wont connect. Does the chat client try to connect at some high random port? Is it possible to use port 80 instead? A lot of folks have higher ports blocked on their networks, especially at work.

The chat room seems a great idea, cant wait to try it out. It shud work from home, will give it a whirl this evening.

[Not to my knowledge. Several people have remarked that, surprisingly, they could access it from work. - Features Editor]

[If you want to see real rage, please go ahead and send it. - Features Editor]

Tim, you don’t remember that FEd has bad music tastes (Pink Floyd a part, of course!) and he hates REM as well as Radiohead? Try to send him “Don’t worry, be happy” (by Bob Marley?), or “Happy christmas” (by Lennon?), or “Happy day” or “happy birthday to you”…I have no idea who wrote those last two…

Anyway, don’t worry, my friend. You’ll find the right song for win FEd’s heart. I’m sure!

    Good night

Ah but I so wanted to soothe, I forget that DG is the only point on the music spectrum where we touch – how about a nice bit of Dylan then – ummm …. wait for it …. errrr , got it “Jokerman” – let that reggae sway you.

Mind if I make a suggestion about scheduling a chat time? Saturday or Sunday between 6pm and 10pm (your time, not mine) would be good; then I’d be fully awake but still sober enough not to get booted out of The Barn for saying something questionable. Maybe.

I usually don’t like chat rooms much. All people want to do in ‘em is talk, talk, talk, ya know? ;-)

I LOVE the chat idea. Wish I had more time to “hang out” there or post here more. Busy these days….

And I don’t mean to tease, but I do have more to say about Abbey Road.

    Soon….

And I’ll be back in the “DG Chat Lounge” whenever its up….

[It's a bit on the strange side, but it's true. I forget who labelled the regulars 'Irregulars', but it stuck. - Features Editor]

It was Angelo’s idea I believe. I heard him use the term for the first time at the Leno gig. Lets face it, you have to be a bit “irregular” to be here everyday since the site began. That is without a paycheck ;)

And from the “irregulars” I’ve met, it fits. No offense y’all, myself is certainly included.

Chat question: By Monday 12PM on the calendar do you mean noon or midnight? You know there really isn’t a 12PM or 12AM; they are the halfway marks of the day and night and neither falls into the category of AM or PM.

    xo
    Deborah

[Clever Clogs. It was good enough for Play School, so it's good enough for me. I mean lunchtime, so 12 noon (which is 12PM in my book). We won't be chatting at the witching hour, that's for sure. Black's not a colour, either; it's a lack of colour. (Does anyone want to tell me at this point that the witching hour is actually 3AM? If so, please don't.) - Features Editor]

FEd wrote: Four hours? My eyes are twitching and blinking after two.

Oh no, I meant schedule a short chat sometime during those hours. No, I wouldn’t wish a four-hour chat on anyone.

Hey, Tim, instead of suggesting Fed to listen to Prodigy, maybe you could tell him that Bob Dylan’s ‘Modern times’ is n°1 in the US and Canadian charts !!! Maybe that could turn him in better mood to you !

Great news for you, Fed, Dylan n°1, but surely still better for you your ‘free’ week end ! have a nice one !

Good Luck on operation #2, Erin!

  34. Roger

This is a first time for me.

Also, I must confess another first. I had heard “Comfortably Numb” on the radio earlier this year, and I knew it was Pink Floyd performing it, but I didn’t know the name of the song or the album.I had been rather— incognito for a few years.Being a 51 year-old man, it was difficult for my wife to understand why I was crying my eyes out when I finally heard its entirety on the Pink Floyd website. Apparently it had brought back some deep hurt from such a long time ago. Now I can finally deal with my pain—- It is not possible to thank Pink Floyd sufficiently for making a connection to my past.

this is regarding great gig in the sky i really loved the start but once the girls started going on and on it wasnt as admirable let alone listenable. Going to see RW in Pittsburgh. Will be interesting ( or disappointing…can’t tell yet) to hear CM without David Gilmour. Although the jury has yet to decide on that one, I can’t imagine anyone matching the performance I saw Dave give in NYC in April.

Java is Ok,no problems (i tried just once to go in the chat for few seconds) but i have the internet speed connection on my work seat only (i’m independent, but …i must work when i’m here of course)..and i feel a little shy: for this reasons i think i cannot follow it accordingly to the scheduled times and the necessity of rush replies.(Frankly speaking i do never take part into chat , even italian)

I always get in touch with this preferred nice website and will follow you anyway

    Take care

Hey, David- Sorry if my blog from the 9th seemed a little- mushie. I haven’t heard anything from Pink Floyd after “Animals”. I have a lot of catching up to do.

The thing about connecting with my past is this: we are never too old to make corrections in our life and to mature more. Sometimes all it takes is the correct song at the correct moment. Comfortably Numb hit me at the right time. Now I am resting easier at night.

    Thanks again!

    Hello everyone,

I joined the chatroom lat friday i.e. 09-08 and it was great to meet many fans there. I like the idea very much, but I need to admit that there were many themes at any given time which caused some problems for me. I will try to pop when I have some spare time in the future.

I still hope that chatroom won’t downgrade the level of the Blog, which which is far more comfortable at least for me.

Any chance of chatroom minutes being published?

    Thank you very much
