GuestMap

As you may have noticed, we have a new addition to the Stuff & Nonsense page, which we hope you’ll like.
You can now leave a message for David and show everyone where in the world you are at the same time (and whether you are male, female or a little green alien, if you wish).
We look forward to hearing what you think of it and, of course, to reading your messages.
Do include your blog name so that we can all recognise you.
Sorry to have to say it, but please don’t bother trying to plug your website or tribute band, nor to make any of the usual requests, because such messages will be deleted straight away.
As is the case here, messages left will not appear instantly. Instead they will be held, subject to approval, before being published. So please, be warned, and thanked in advance for your co-operation.
It goes without saying that, if we see a pin in a certain part of the world, we’ll take it that you’d like to see David perform there.
If in doubt as to what you have to do to leave your pin and message, please find a quick summary of all the buttons that run along the top of the map itself.
POST allows you to mark your location on the map and leave a message.
LIST shows all the entries that have already been left in standard guestbook-style.
ZOOM enlarges the map, so that you can put your pin in the right place.
ICONS allows you to choose whether you see dots, or icons, on the map.
CONTRAST lightens the map, so that it’s easier to view (apparently).
Last, but certainly not least, we’d like to thank you all for the messages you left for David on his birthday. They were much appreciated.
FEd, I just want to say one thing…You are awesome! You make this website and Mr. Gilmours Fan community so much more connected. Bravo!
[Cheers, mate. I think many will disagree, but... - Features Editor]
A great idea F.Ed – really makes this community feel more like family.
Not surprised to see the concentration of aliens and humans in the US and Europe but would’ve thought that there would have been a lot more pins in South America considering the number of requests this blog has received for David to play there….:-)
This site never fails to impress.
Nisha
PS: It’s also a bit surprising that I am the only pin on the Indian subcontinent thus far…hope to see more representation soon.
Hey… it’s really nice to be able to see where everyone’s located… I put my pin yesterday, and I just found out today that there’s two people from Mexico in the latest update…
Apart from being nice for all us bloggers it’s fun how much information you can pick up from here… I hope we end up filling Mexico with little pins showing David we deserve a visit (can’t help to say it Fed… I’d pay first row tickets for all the appearances he has in Mexico, trust me!).
Anyhoo… it looks like a busy weekend for the blog… and it’s always nice to read everyone over there…
Mais bon… c’est l’heure de partir mes amis! (Comment ca va Michele?)
Have a great week fellows!
Shine on!
Jorge.
Great idea about the map FEd but I tend to agree a little with Georg Kunz who said
“the famous “global village” isn’t so global at all in terms of access to computers and the internet; Globalization is really something primarily for the rich ones on this planet.” – at March 10, 2007 12:24 PM
I can’t add to the map due to my gas powered computer and restrictions at work. I am happy in the knowledge that I know where I am (just a millimetre above George Macivar. So be it. I dont regard myself as poor as I am not living in areas of the World where computers are in the minority. Some of the richest people in the world have nothing but their name.
Have a good week

Dear F.Ed.,
thank you very much for your nice help.
I’d like to leave here as simple blog message my small contribution with reference to the Kastellorizon island, especially for Lucia.
We all know that “Castellorizon” is also the name of a song from David Gilmour’s album On an Island, based on a night he spent on Kastelorizo.
Kastelorizo, current official name in Greek is Μεγίστη/Megisti; (Turkish: Meis , Italian: Castelrosso), is a small Greek island located in the Eastern Mediterranean. It lies roughly 1300 metres off the south coast of Turkey, about 110 km east of Rhodes, almost halfway between Rhodes and Antalya.
It has gone by several different names in its history, including Castellorizo, Castelrosso, Meis. The meaning of its current official name Megisti (Μεγίστη) is “Biggest”, a seemingly ironic choice since, at only 4 square miles (10 km²) in area, it is the smallest of the Dodecanese. The name, however, refers to the fact that it is the biggest of the small archipelago.
Thank you again
Ciao Elisabetta
Dear F.Ed.
I’d like to leave the following message in my icon with italian flag named Elisabetta in the guest-map: [...]
Thank you very much
Bye/ciao Elisabetta
[It has now been changed, Elisabetta (but I could not add your flag, sorry). You can see your new message. It is dated Friday 9 March and timed at 06:08:54AM. - Features Editor]
There’s a Stutzy in the Dominican Republic?
Who are you? Where are you? I was beginning to think I was the only fan of Dominican descent here…..

Hi Ian,
you’re absolutely right, I should differentiate a little bit more, the world isn’t simply black and white.
But maybe we can both agree that the problem is the economic possibility/potential to obtain such technology – something most of us here in the so called “first world” have and people in large parts of Africa/Latin America etc. don’t have for the forseeable future.
Sorry Fed, for stirring up this theme once again. I don’t want to kick off an off topic discussion, but sometimes thoughts like these also put the little wishes amd demands we are uttering here on this blog into the right perspective.
“I am happy in the knowledge that I know where I am (just a millimetre above George Maciver.”
Ian, you work for Caithness Glass? For some reason I thought you lived around the Glasgow area.
‘Gobbledeegook’…
Merci pour le rectificatif, trop gentil !

Hey Fed!!
Seems like you get another chance to come visit Holland and support your team against PSV, let me know when you’ll arrive!!
[May the best team win, mate. Good luck. - Features Editor]
Ca va encore mieux depuis que j’ai lu ton message, Jorge, merci…
It would be nice to meet you in the chatroom…

Hi FEd and friends,
A very mysterious, other-worldly musical snippet playing today. Spooky almost!
Nisha, I’m happy to see you on the map finally. I’d been wondering where you were!
FEd, there you go again with ‘pamplemousse’ … that came up once (at least) before but I never discovered the meaning of the word. I gather it must be the French word for ‘gobbledygook’? I’ve always liked the sound of that word for some reason and I find pamplemousse just as interesting!
I was surprised that you weren’t the very first person to claim your spot on the planet FEd! Very gratious of you to let others plant their pointy sticks first!
That’s enough muttering from me for today. I hope I can make it to the old Chatroom on Wednesday. Until then …
Peace and love!
Gabrielle

You are no doubt very efficient, FEd, I saw my post on the guest map this a.m. I hope you hold up Ok reading all of our posts on the map? This is really a nice service, much appreicated.
Have a great day!
[I appreciate you leaving a message. Many thanks. - Features Editor]
I saw it: Thank you very much indeed, F.Ed.!
ciao Elisabetta
[You're very welcome. - Features Editor]
Happy Birthday Dave! I was out of my office and I beg Your pardon for this delay.
All the Very Best!
Maury
Aw… hopefully someday Michèle… trust me I’ve tried to make it to the chat, it’s just I haven’t had the chance to catch an open session. My time schedule usually allows me to try the chat somewhere around 1AM or 2AM GMT-6, therefore; it’s kind of hard
! Mais je l’essais!!!
Alors Fed… est-ce que tu as de nouvelles pour nous en David’s Fender Custom? I was reading the blog entry you put for the guitar and remember you mentioned a contest to win one of these near the time “Remember that night” is going to be released this year… I was wondering if this is still going to happen… because I’m more than ready for the contest!
:D:D!
Well… just wanted to say hi again to the blog
Shine on!
Jorge.

Speaking of the chatroom, don’t forget, gentle souls, that the US jumped ahead to Daylight Savings Time a few weeks earlier than usual. Until the UK does its usual jump, that means that the US Eastern timezone is /four/ hours ahead of the UK.
So, for example, the Wednesday chat advertised for 1pm-3pm UK time is 9am-11am Eastern or 6am-8am Pacific. I believe Indiana now /does/ recognize DST, except those same areas that did their own thing, but can any Indianans confirm or deny this? What about Arizona and Hawaii (two other states that traditionally did not acknowledge DST)…?
Also, FEd or one of our other sterling UK residents, can you please confirm when you folks jump forward? After all, chat sessions are based on the FT timezone (FEd Time, whether it’s standard or Daylight Savings…)
This PSA is brought to you by the letters J and Q, the number 4, and a battered blue police box.
‘Nix.

I am, and have always been, and will always be, an alien. That is my story and I’m sticking with it. There is no way I’d ever own up to originating from the same planet as the likes of Hitler, George “The Decider” Bush, Stalin, and Nero. Scotty would be hard pressed to find any intelligent life down here!
Duh, that shoulda said four hours /behind/… mea culpa.
Ah, well, y’all knew what I meant.
‘Nix the uncaffeinated-as-of-yet.

???
You poor folks. Your summer is ending on March25? So when does your summer begin?
Sorry about being a smart alec…just couldn’t let that go. Must have been from reading too many birthday wishes for David. Your eyes are all crossed.
Love the new map thingy.

[We like smart alecs here, so knock yourself out. It would make more sense for summer to start on 25 March, wouldn't it? It starts on the 25th and ends on the 31st. - Features Editor]

Keep up the good work,
Take care,
Dave

Blimey, that was a short summer. Have you had your mango today?
[Not you as well! - Features Editor]
Hi to all.
Never done anything like this at all before, this is my first time posting a message anywhere, anytime. I’m not even sure that this will reach all of you out there.
Been a Floyd fan for years and thought David’s ‘On an Island’ the best music I’d heard in quite a few years.
Is there anyone out there?
[We hear you, John. Thank you for leaving a message. Do post again. - Features Editor]
Thanks, Elisabetta, for the explanations! Interesting! Maybe, the next David’s fans meeting should be organize there. We could arrive with a lot of boats from the sea…can you image the poor Kastellorizon’s inhabitants how could be shocked seeing arriving from the beach this huge bunch of crazy people as we are!!! ah! ah! Hey folk! But not too much confusion. We have to be lovely guests…poor Katellorizon’s inhabitants!!!
L!
Please David,
Come to Brasil
We love you

Good job Phoenix! I’d have totally spaced that one out. Even my computer hasn’t realized the time change yet. Patches, we don’t need no stinkin’ patches!!

Well that’s good to know FEd. Now I’m off to have one of my favorite beverages, rouge pamplemousse juice … that certainly has a ring to it, don’t ya think?
I’m still smiling at the thought of Marcus’s comment on David’s talking dog hand puppet by the way!!
Peace,
Gabrielle

Pamplemousse..isn’t that a kind of gook that you apply to your hair to make it appear more p..ample?
Just pinned myself..pretty cool!
Still the only one in India….in a country of a billion people you’d think more folks would appreciate real talent….sigh.
Hi Gabrielle – belated Congratulations on becoming a Grandma. Looked out for you on chat the other day but I was on only briefly so may have missed you.
Life isn’t so good right now, a beloved family member is in critical care after collapsing with a brain haemorrhage 10 days ago, so I’ve busy shuttling back and forth between work, hospital, husband, child. Doesn’t help that hospital is an airplane ride away. So it’ll probably be a while before I am irregular again.
Take care all -
Nisha
[You take care, Nisha. Best wishes to your unfortunate family member. - Features Editor]
Nice to see the planet expanding every day with bloggers. Great idea.
[Ian, you work for Caithness Glass? For some reason I thought you lived around the Glasgow area. - Posted by: George Maciver]
More Glass Glow maybe George, but actually Thurso and for myself, on my own.
Incidentally watching some old footage of David and the boys playing AHM last night and realised that David’s voice is better now than 30 odd years ago.

Don’t you mean Greenwich Mean Time ends and British Summertime begins, FEd. ;-)
[That's exactly what I mean. You know I'm just testing to see who's keeping up. - Features Editor]
Congrats to the growing list of grandparents out there…
And warm feelings and good vibes to those of you in crisis…. (Hang in there, Nisha)
I read in a Norwegian newspaper today that the British government was the first in the whole world to launch a new law stating that the country shall reduce its CO2-emission by 60% within 2050!! YES!! Maybe there`s a hope although? David must be proud?..
[Call me naïve, if you will, but the idea of having a birthday blog entry was so that people could wish David a happy birthday. Instead, many people seem to have stated what they want next from David and tagged on a token birthday greeting at the end]
Hey Mr Naive, it makes you despair does’nt it.
Anyway, what I want is………..

I know there is the DVD to be released sometime after May but considering this time last year when David was gearing up for the tour & O.A.I. just released & all the associated press coverage, isn’t it good this site is still attracting new, or not so new fans, what ever the case may be
well done Fed & everyone on the web site for keeping David Gilmour.com so fresh
[Call me naïve, if you will, but the idea of having a birthday blog entry was so that people could wish David a happy birthday. Instead, many people seem to have stated what they want next from David and tagged on a token birthday greeting at the end]
‘many people’ ? I read all the 784 posts (!!!) and I think most of them, almost all of them were very nice and respectful, you should rather be proud, I think…
But, maybe, you had to delete many of other not so nice and greedy posts, I don’t know, of course …donc, je ferais mieux de me taire…

[What about Arizona and Hawaii (two other states that traditionally did not acknowledge DST)...? - Posted by: Phoenix at March 12, 2007 07:32 PM]
Last I checked there wasn’t even one pinmark on the guest map for anyone in Hawaii or Alaska for that matter.
[It goes without saying that, if we see a pin in a certain part of the world, we'll take it that you'd like to see David perform there.]
Now imagine if David decides the opposite and performs in places where there are no pins. This would be an effort to bring his talent to undiscovered places. Now playing at the Igloo in Juneau…or coming to you live from a floating ice flow in the Antartic…
Andrew
ciao a tutti,
today I am in my “it is a S**T world” mood. But I don’t want to bother you with my heavy opinions and judgement about various topics which should bring ourselves to “indignarsi” (my english vocabulary suggests “get angry” but that’s not correct. “get angry” is “arrabbiarsi”. “indignarsi” is related to Dignity.. a person gets “indignata” when something offends his sense of dignity..of what should be good and bad…).
By the way for people in this mood I would suggest “Children of Men”, a recent english movie that is a good metaphor of where we are going (and in the movie, set in the near future, the battersea power station with the pink floyd pig stands like a monument…in that movie, pink floyd are ancient visual art. this is another thing, among others in the movie, which will probably happen).
So, I was saying I don’t want to bother you. To make my mood better (thanks for the map) do you have anything nice to say to us? Like DG finally touring Brasil after all requests, or touring my town…..or a new record out in 2018….or a new addition to the blog. Cheer me up Fed, if you can. :-)
ciao a tutti.
[I've got something for you later, if it's ready on time. It's a new blog entry with a little something on the side. It's silly (cheesy, more like), so it might make your mood worse. - Features Editor]
Fed,
I’ve noticed over the past couple of days that some of the posts have been appearing with a timestamp in the future. Is this conclusive proof that you are indeed an alien from another dimension? (…or do I remember reading that your server is based in the US…)
[I'm glad it's not just me. - Features Editor]
