Richard

I’m so sorry to break the sad news that Richard has passed away after a battle with cancer.

I really don’t know what to say other than that he was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him.

And that’s a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show in 2006?

If you wish to add anything, feel free.

  16. Barks

I’m devastated. He was THE big influence on me to be a true band player. Wonderful textures and a highly under rated player at that.

    Much respect.

I am so glad I had the privilege to meet Richard at Glasgow in 2006 and will treasure those memories like the tears running down my cheek which I will never wipe away. I know what he gave to music and society will also be never wiped away.

My sincere wishes to his family and friends in that I hope that they take strength in that Richard is without suffering and at peace.

I hope the news will be treated with respect and privacy by all. After all it is that which Richard would have wanted.

    We will not forget.

    Love Ian

  19. Mike from Michigan

    Fed,

This is indeed a very sad day.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Richard’s family, including his Pink Floyd family. I am certainly shocked, and very sad. I will go through my collection and play Rick’s songs today, and remember how much he contributed to the sound and story of Pink Floyd.

    RIP, Richard

  20. Justin Vile

It’s not very often (thankfully) that I hear such sad news.

  24. Calibwam

Shocked, sad.. I can’t express my feelings now. Richard was the world’s finest piano player.

I would gladly wait some more time for Gdansk so David could pay his tribute on the set. “In memory” or something.

    Requires ino Pacem, Richard.

  25. Julian Collins

RIP Rick, may your musical legacy live on forever.

  26. JohnP

The key to The Pink Floyd Sound. Richard will be missed.

So sad to hear about Rick Wright’s death.

I feel enormously privileged to have heard him play at the RAH in 2006; he received a well-deserved and hugely warm round of applause and gave a wonderful performance.

His musical legacy, though, leaves us all something to treasure.

  28. Luca

  29. Tim C

A great light has gone out – WYWH Rick.

  30. Mike Caddick

I always looked forward to hearing your songs on the Floyd albums and was thrilled that my first live Floyd experience was you playing the Shine On intro. I had tears in my eyes then, I have tears in my eyes now.

It was so good to see you happy on the 2006 tour, Rick, and I’d like to echo David’s comment on the DVD documentary: “I love you, man.”

  31. Peter Kyster Slot

I’m so sorry to hear this. His family is in our thoughts in these hard times.

  36. RobM

What else can be said? Devastating news for his family, friends and fans.

Thank you Rick for the music.

I’m so glad I got to see him at the RAH with David. I’ll never forget the moment during Echoes when just the two of them were in the spotlight.

    Rest In Peace.

  37. Nic

RIP Richard – don’t know what else to say but it doesn’t half put the past bickering into perspective.

I’m so sad about this, it’s just terrible news. My sympathies to Rick’s family and friends and all of you.

I’m really pleased that Rick did this tour with David, he looked so happy and played so well.

In all this sadness, I can comfort myself by remembering the documentary on ‘Remember That Night’, where Rick explained how happy it made him feel to be on tour with David again. Thanks for that.

‘Echoes’, will never be the same again, without Richard’s ping.

    Shine on Rick…

  46. victor

  49. Howard Bayliss

    Hi Fed,

I just saw this at the BBC about 40mins ago and I am still in shock. He is by far one of the most underrated musicians in rock and his keyboard work will never be forgotten. I was talking to Rudders and he mentioned that he was listening to his Wet Dream CD just last night. Very very sad news indeed.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family and of course David, Roger and Nick as well.

    A very sad Cheers,

  57. Krugmeister

Richard was always one of my favs.. and having him tour with David was icing on the cake.

On the DVD he and David just schooled the rest of us on how it is SUPPOSED to be done.. esp. on Echoes.

I am in shock and I feel good for Richard for the end of any pain he may have been suffering.

He left the music world a FAR better place, and to those who knew him he was finest example of a gentleman.

RIP Rick, you will ALWAYS be adored and missed.

Rest in soft peace, Richard Wright, and thank you so much for your gorgeous work.

    God Bless Richard,

    Darran

  72. Paulo

A great musician, a great man..will be missed. May his music live forever.

  73. Irfaan Akudi

This is truly shocking news! I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with David Gilmour on his On An Island Tour at the Royal Albert Hall. He was brilliant, especially the almost note-for-note perfection of Great Gig in the Sky. And yeah, he absolutely did get the loudest and longest standing ovation that night, and rightly so. He seems to be the most loved of the Floyd members.

He was responsible for the great sound and atmosphere of almost all Pink Floyd songs. Without him, there is no Pink Floyd.

Richard Wright will be greatly missed.

  74. Jordan Luft

I just heard the horrible news..I am very sad to hear that such a man from the most influential band I have ever heard is gone.

I know my dad will be happy to see Richard’s arrival in heaven, and that he’ll be in good company!!!!!

    RIP

    Rick Deliz

  81. Pierre Paquette

I was sad but I never cried when I heard that an artist had passed away… until a few minutes ago when I read on the French Wikipedia that Mr. Wright lost his fight against cancer.

I don’t know what to say. Maybe silence is the best option. Silence and remember.

    Rest in peace.

  82. Evan

When I think of Pink Floyd, I always think of Richard Wright stoically at the keyboard.

A very fine musician and human being. I’m very glad to have seen him tour with David recently.

I’m so sorry for the family of both Richard and of the Floyd.

See you on the dark side of the moon.
