‘Albatross’

Jools Holland during the recording of 'On an Island'

You won’t want to miss this, I’m sure.

David will perform Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Albatross’ next week: on Jools Holland’s Radio 2 show, Monday 10 November.

He’ll also be chatting about ‘Live in Gdańsk’.

Everyone can listen live online, so set space in your schedule between the hours of 22:30 and 23:30 (UK).

You can listen later, on demand, for one week (courtesy of the BBC iPlayer), but possibly only if you’re in the UK, so do try and catch it live, if you can.

The chatroom has just opened, so feel free to call in. It will be open until 12:00 (UK).

I actually thought the piano sounded great and added another dimension to the piece. You could hardly expect it to sound exactly the same as the Fleetwood Mac version, really if it did you could ponder what would be the point of that.

Jools is not everybody’s cup of tea, and OK, his presenting skills might not be the best, but he is a musician so you should not really expect him to come up to the standard of Bob Harris, Johnnie Walker or even Parky.

Having listened to the rendition of Albatross prior to reading some of the comments before mine, I came away with a similar impression. The piano was an absolute distraction in a number of ways. At times it absolutely stepped on the groove in a number of places.

However, David truly embellished the soul of the song. It is obvious he enjoys playing it. It is a really beautiful song.

[I know little about Jools, and I realize it's a radio broadcast, but I wish he could have shut his yap a little more and let the music speak for itself. - Meg]

LOL, I agree. The applause was annoying too.

thanks for the tip, i found myself online about 20 minutes before the live feed and i got to listen in at 4.30 pm cst in texas.

i’ve always liked albatross, being a fleetwood mac fan, and david’s rendition was excellent. also enjoyed the interview snips but could have stood a longer show with
more of david’s chat, but i’m sure there will be more later down the road.

i did get my gdansk/5 deluxe about 3 weeks ago but i’m waiting until i have thoroughly listened/watched/read and investigated all of the offerings in this massive collection before i render my opinion, but so far an a+ is in order.

gdansk gives me the same enjoyment that drawing a “nutz flush” in texas hold em poker does…bet lite 1st then move all in, it’s a lead pipe cinch that you have a winner. i love it so far.

    take care…….fats

I couldn´t listen to it live because I wasn´t in home at that time and now is not available for my country. :(

It would be great to listen to his version of Albatross.

    Regards.

[I don't suppose you were in the congregation around Floydian Leaf (RIP) that Saturday afternoon? - Ripper]

We met Floydian Leaf, quite a character! And his wife, we met a lot of fans, crew, odd band members that weekend. It seemed a very relaxed atmosphere.

[I managed to get a pristine DG poster that day. - Ripper]

We got posters too, were you following us around?

    Yes, great memories. :)

Interesting. Chapellier is a French guitarist. Did a tribute album to Roy Buchanan last year. David is one of his favorite guitar players.

    [Fascinating. - FEd]

    [Fascinating - FEd]

Fascinating indeed!! I believe David and Fred would be a great pairing for a special concert.

I missed this, and of course, didn’t try listening until today.

It’s still available (click my name).

[Hope you enjoyed it, Will. - FEd]

You can buy a guitar, amp or effect, but there is no shop where one can find talent, feeling and fingers… David was always my favorite guitar player and always will be.
