Photo of the month
Again, clearly not a photo, but worthy of special mention: Nate’s New Castellorizon.
Many of you will have seen this before (and the bottle top appears from time to time as an avatar).
It is, of course, a play on Newcastle Brown Ale.
Thanks, Nate.
There’s more artwork in the gallery. If you have something to add, be it a photo or something arty, please get it online and let me know where I can find it.
The chatroom will open today at 13:00 (UK). If you visited for the first time recently, thank you for your participation; it’s been nice chatting with you.
I’m also pleased to see new names appearing here. As random as The Blog is these days, your contribution is always very welcome and much appreciated, so please continue to dip in and out as and when the mood takes you.
Classic!!!
Thanks FEd!
A note on the design… 3miles (squared) refers to the area of the island.
Thanks of course to Jersey Mike for inventing the brew in the first place!
“And we’ll bask in the shadow of yesterday’s triumph”
(I sat on a wall one night walking up a steep hill, and noticed my shadow looking strange!)
Thanks for the good wishes the other day Fed. It was not so bad entering the 6th decade.
And many, many thanks to David and all the other musicians who made the first 5 so much easier to put up with.
Anyway, artwork… just how do you ‘upload’ it?
You need to use one of the many free image hosting sites, such as Photobucket or TinyPic.
New Castellorizon/Newcastle Brown Ale…
Oh, come on, FEd, don’t you prefer this one?
I have to say, S. looks gorgeous…
Michèle
I much prefer the taste, at least.
Will they bottle it?
Or maybe the season has gone as flat as the beer…
Nice work Nate!
FEd, I have a suggestion for a blog topic.
It was big in 2006, but then it kind of ended abruptly. But, what do you think the possibility is that the Fan QAs with the band members can continue? I know we haven’t heard from Jon Carin or Dick Parry. Is that something that could be worked out?
In a word, no.
Sorry.
Fair enough… Doesn’t hurt to ask though.
Great work, Nate & Jerzy Mike!
I was lucky enough to receive one of these beers at the blogger gathering in 2007. (Has it really been almost 2 years?)
I believe Marcus & Erin took the Newcastle bottles and put Nate’s artwork over the regular labels. They even put a small label on the bottle cap, which I still have.
I hesitated to drink my beer at first. I saved it for a good long while since it was a special souvenir. I kept it in the fridge and told my husband not to drink “Nate’s beer.” Sometime last year, I finally drank it and of course, it was excellent and fun to think back on a wonderful weekend.
Good times, “with friends surrounded!”
Instantly recognisable Nate, I would miss it if it suddenly disappeared.
Greetings and salutations all around.
I have a little time to kill today and thought I’d “dip” my toe in the blog a bit today.
I love your logo and thank you for it, Nate. New Castellorizon made a hit at our Barnfest 07, and in case you are new to the blog and wondering what Barnfest is, it was a small 2 day gathering of a few bloggers in the United States.
Here’s a photo of Marcus, the “barntender”, offering anyone who thirsts a sample of the strange brew. I’ll include the link with my post, Fed.
Here’s a photo of Erin and I so everyone can see the New Castellorizon hat, which I still own. Nate had no idea he was creating a piece of Gilmourian history.
I have a photo of everyone at Barnfest with the hat on. If everyone agrees, would you like to add them to the gallery, Fed?
I would certainly consider adding the best ones.
Ha! I saw that somewhere else Nate posts and complimented it.
Very cool design.
Nice to get a good look at this work of art… I didn’t like to stare too closely at it on Nate’s chest… I’m told that’s rude.
… nice art work, but wouldn’t a Kastellorizo label fit more on a good dry red wine? Beer’s sparkling as the music is, but a glass of wine and “Mapping the stars for a while”…
Taki,
Bavaria
Nate,
Thank you so much for your excellent work. We have been celebratin’ ’round these parts with New Castellorizon since Barnfest ’07.
For those in the know, this brew is also available at most chats. It just depends on who you ask.
Thanks again Nate!! Keep up the good work mate!
I took this picture last autumn. It’s not a good one, completely random, but I like it. It seems the apocalypse, but it’s only the sun.
I’m using Photobucket for the first time, I hope I did well.
Very well. Thank you, Alessandra.
Cool label.
Symmetry always amazes me in life.
I belong to a small social club, Drinking Liberally, in the city where I live. We get together on the first and third Thursday evenings to share some conversation, food and beverages. We always have the Newcastle Brown Ale and Fat Tire for the group.
How fortuitous to see this post.
Thanks.
I know this art work indeed… I can go for one of those right now! Mmmmm…
“New Castellorizon,” a product of New Gilmour Beers, LTD. Competitors include Waters Ales’ “KAOS Stout,” Barrett Brewing Company’s “The Mad Cap,” and “Fictitious Foam” from Mason & Bley.
The latter is hard to find in stores, though I’ve heard rumors about it.
Nice going, Nate. This is the first that I’ve heard the whole story. And FEd, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being allowed to associate with all the fine people of the chat and thanks for having me there.
Always welcome, Bruce.
Nate and Marcus, you are both talented.
Now where is that Absinthe I ordered?
Not presenthe.

As an old name just dipping in as I’m in mood for a dip – a bath might do! Wishing a warm welcome to all new names here.
Waiting for some David influenced Malt designs. MacGilmour triple distilled perhaps!
Ian
Love it!! Where do I place my order?
Jan
Hey All,
Seeing the New Castellorizon logo of Nate’s reminds me to tell you that we are going to Greece this September for 3 weeks… now don’t get too jealous. ;-))
Cheers, Howard
Have a lovely time, Howard.
Yes! One of my favourite brews! That was nice work Nate. Glad to see it on the new blog.
Kudos to you FEd, I’m liking the new look.
Thanks very much.
Nice to have the full version of OAI on the News page today – thanks for that.
Creative spin on Newcastle and the labels for Barnfest.
Hope to catch up in chat one of these days.
Take Care. Christine
Nice to hear from you again Christine! Big hello from the Netherlands.
Ernest “from Ritzy” London…
Love is the wisdom of life.
I love your songs, you touch the human souls by the wisdom of words and your space sounds so great.
Talk to you soon.

In July of this year of 2009 it is 20 years passed since Pink Floyd played a remarkable and astonishing show in Venice, broadcasted by TV to millions of people, which included myself.
As a suggestions to your consideration, I think there should be edited something about the Venice show – 20 years after for future remembrance: a DVD, or a book with photos and coverage of the event, or all that included in the “Delicate Sound of Thunder” DVD, which hopefully will come out one day.
Apart from the Olympic openings and closing ceremonies, rarely I’ve seen such a beautiful visual show on TV.
I guess there is plenty of material about that special day of July 1989
Cheers to everyone,
Pedro from Portugal
Now I know what’s on Nate’s avatar.
Very nice idea.
Way cool Nate. One of my many favorite brews.
Don’t know where to ask? I was wondering, David started playing at a time when all the British greats came about… David himself, Jimmy Page, Richie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Toni Iommi, Brian May, etc… Did David ever, get along, or “hang out”, with any of the above? I did see this video on YouTube, with David and Brian May, playing Smoke on the Water, but did he jam with everyone else or just Brian?
I read an article about Wolf Mother playing Led Zep, songs at a tribute concert for Led Zep, and the WM guitarists comments on how David Gilmour was there and Jimmy Page was there. Did Jimmy Page and David know each other well, play together?
Just curious as to who of all these greats David jammed with, knew, and got along with.
How long have you got?
I’d be up for as long as it takes! Any (new to me) information about David is always interesting to hear/read about.
I will make time! What info do you have??
I am in the gallery of artwork…
Am I the artwork or is it the Gdansk monument?
Thanks FEd!
Hello to you Ernest – hope you’ve been well!
Great to see you in the gallery.
I’m heading to NL in June for a family reunion, it would be fun to have a mini-Ritzy reunion to reminisce.
Take Care. ChristineT
That would be nice Christine.
Hey everyone.
I just thought I’d let you know that I am off to Idaho to play in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival!! The festival will be featuring Bobby McFarin!! Wish me luck!!!!!
Cheers!!
Good luck.
YO! Adrian:
Best of luck! Have a great time.
I agree with Christine, a full version of OAI is great, wonder what will be next?
Excellent!
My wife, 3 grandchildren, and daughter with her new bo are off to Mexico on Friday. So you all better behave.
Adios Amigos and Amigo-ess-es.
FEd,
Still waiting, do tell, what info have you got? Who did David hang out with or get along with (Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, etc.)? Guitar greats, remember?
Thanks!
