This says nothing, of course, about the artists who should have more than one song on this list. I included Crosby, Stills and Nash because this is David’s blog, after all, and we have recently heard what Crosby Gilmour and Nash sound like!
Other than that, I tried to avoid the obvious Floyd-related hits (“See Emily Play”) because that’s just common courtesy to the others who should be mentioned here.
Perhaps it is just my befuddled thinking, from too much vino tonight, but David’s name in the place of a “still” (I know it is normally plural… poetic licence?) made me think of whiskey. Maybe this one.

“Echoes” is a maximum hit. I have to disagree by stating that “Dark Side of the Moon” is the best “Pink Floyd” record.

It’s sad to say so, but I couldn’t find anything there that I actually consider good Italian music.

Ah, Roy Orbison…
I caught a concert of his on TV the other night (released on DVD as ‘Black and White Night’, with Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and many others in support).
If you haven’t seen it before, definitely look out for it. Roy was in great form.
Roy Orbison, Black & White is such a fantastic show and is one of my favorite music DVDs! Roy sounds as wonderful as ever, hitting those sweet high notes with such power and ease. And his backing band and singers ain’t half-bad either! Wouldn’t you have loved to be in the audience that night?? Wow!
He really rocked the foundation of what was considered standard song structure right on it’s ass with songs like Running Scared and It’s Over which are two of my all-time favorites. What a unique style and voice he had!
Roy was also such a gentle, quiet, sweet and unassuming man who suffered such terrible loss in his life but still kept on writing, recording and performing. He was one of a kind and gave us the most incredible music from his first recordings in the very early ’60s right up to his Traveling Wilbury days.
I thank him for that.
‘Crying’ is my favourite. What a voice, what a talent.
Yes, FE’d, I have seen this numerous times. Never get tired of it. Weren’t they all young looking?
Many time when our public broadcasting station is trying to raise funds, they play the Black and White.
Just listening again to a selection of CDs while doing some spring cleaning. I love ‘Us And Them’ and the way it segues into ‘Any Color You Like’.
And I don’t want to start any RW vs DG talk. I am not a fan of RW but his lyrics on Brain Damage “The paper holds their folded faces to the floor, And everyday the paper boy brings more” is one of his best. Maybe it seems a simple one, but I doubt that it is. I like what visions it creates in my mind. Also, like the line from “Wot’s… Uh the Deal” about “I’m the man on the outside looking in.” I probably don’t have this just right. But no worries.

Problem 1 : in those years I was in Italy and the great part of Italian music was made by commercial tracks and cover (from UK and USA) tracks, the one I remember is Lucio Battisti – fresh air and new music for young people.
We had two specific radio programs named “Per voi giovani ” (Dedicated to Young people) e “Bandiera gialla” (Yellow Flag) that aired a lot of music from UK and US and two magazines “Big” and “Ciao 2001″ (I worked there in 1972 from London, when was 17).
