Game for May
Well, with apologies for the belated heralding of a new month now that its first week is nearing an end, May is already upon us and, is it just me, or is it hard to believe that we’re fast approaching the mid-point of 2011?
‘The charming month of May, when all the flow’rs were fresh and gay’, wrote Robert Burns. It has also been cheerily described as ‘the merry month of May; so frolic, so gay, and so green’ – by Thomas Dekker. All this gaiety seems to me to be a jolly good excuse to wrap up the week with some token blog silliness – a Game for May, why not? – so I hope you’ll add to the following list of corrupted song titles.
- Beatles, ‘May Jude’
- The Doors, ‘Strange Mays’
- Bob Dylan, ‘May Lady May’
- The Lemonheads, ‘Big May Heart’
- Paul McCartney, ‘May Be I’m Amazed’
Instead perhaps, should you prefer to be serious and celebrate the season’s many natural charms, you could continue the flow’ring theme with choice examples of dainty prose from popular music, the kind of which Messrs Burns and Dekker would likely appreciate. I’m reminded of Donovan’s graceful ‘Lullaby for Spring’:
The chatroom doors will be thrown open today from 2pm (UK), if you’re free to pop in for a natter. Ladies, do wear a flower in your hair for the occasion.
Have a very good weekend, all. See you next week.
A Hard May’s Night – Beatles
Mays – Kinks
One of These Mays – Floyd
Right, now to find a flower… Have a great afternoon, everyone!
~Mae
How about changing a few ‘mays’ to:
Faces/Rod – Maggie Will
Another Lemonheads one: “It’s A Shame About May”.
Rainy May Women #12
It Ain’t May, Babe
What Do You Want from May?
May You
Speak To May
May ruined
Why Does It Always Rain On May?
May ruined …
Marvellous. A-May-zing indeed.
“When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall …”
The Bee Gees – ‘First of May’
All I have to add at the moment.
Just a quick addition to my “every first of May” song above:
Simon & Garfunkel’s April Come She Will (“May she will stay, Resting in my arms again”)
Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven (“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now, It’s just a spring clean for the May queen”)
Aerosmith – Walk This May
Lenny Kravitz – Are You Gonna Go My May?
I always think of this when I hear the Aerosmith song (on this occasion the roll is an added bonus).

Anything featuring Nick May-son!
Best wishes to all and have a good weekend

“may mickey” by toni basil!
Damn, I have to post a link to the video.
Sorry Fed and everyone in chat, I got timed out whilst distracted by a neighbour who popped in.
I’m hoping to be able to do something for your Game for May Fed, I kept getting carried away on the freedom one and getting angry and sad and serious. Lots of good song suggestions though and some very good reads.

Can’t remember who sung “May Each Day”, was it Andy Williams?

Nice weekend
Paolo
1) May Be I’m A-May-zed: Paul McCartney
2) Good May Sunshine: Beatles
3) Something In the May She Moves: Beatles
This is good. Need to think of a few more.
Happy Mother’s May to all the Mama Bloggers.
Rod Stewart “Maggie MAY”
In my church’s hymnal there is a strange song called “MAY I Have This Dance?”
Clapton “San Francisco MAY Blues”
Otis Redding “Sittin’ On the Dock of the MAY”
Anything from the MAY City Rollers
In Carole King’s “I Feel The Earth Move” there is the line about something being ‘Mellow as the month of May.’ That was not written this year, anywhere near here. It’s been a cold, rainy, windy May so far.
Just an observation…
Sky Arts this coming Friday (13th) are showing David Gilmour – Remember That Night… (as if we could ever forget).
At least it will give the DVD a rest for the evening!
Enjoy!!!
Thanks for that, Heather.
