The January edition of France’s Guitarist & Bass magazine has now been added to the archives, if you care to take a look. December’s Guitar Part is also there, also in French.

If you can’t read them, don’t worry; it’s much the same as what has appeared in similar magazines recently. These can also be found in the archives.

Press from all over the world is always gratefully received. If you happen to spot anything, and can scan it for others to read, please do.

Thanks again for all your contributions to this archive to date.

Guitar World magazine’s Fifteenth Annual Readers’ Poll is currently underway, and a few careful clicks of your mouse could help get our David inducted into their Hall of Fame.

He has some stiff competition, in the form of Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Joe Satriani and Angus Young.

Previous winners are Dimebag Darrell, Kirk Hammett, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

You can also cast a vote for David in the Best Rock Guitarist category, where he’s up against Mick Mars, Keith Nelson, Eddie Van Halen and Angus Young.

I hope to see you tomorrow, in another place, another time…

David on the cover of the January 2009 edition of Guitar Player magazine

As you mentioned those contentious lists of Best American and/or British Songs recently, as voted by radio listeners or magazine readers, I wondered what you’d choose.

20 songs by UK acts and 20 from the USA, if you can, please. The more variety, the better, so do overlook the various members of Pink Floyd, if you so wish.

On this day in 1970, ‘Tears of a Clown’ by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles topped the US singles chart. It would also reach top spot in the UK.

And on this day in 1963, The Beatles had one of many UK Number Ones with ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’.

Would you include either of these fine tunes?

If you haven’t noticed, there are some new articles in the archives – like the one pictured. Click to have a read.

That’s all for this week, enjoy the weekend.

David on the cover of January's Guitar & Bass magazine

There have been some new additions to the press archives, which you may not have noticed, including this – from Guitar & Bass magazine.

David talks about being out of his depth meeting Lech Walesa, reveals how to spot when he’s not feeling particularly inspired on stage, and answers a question asked a million times here: why didn’t you play anything from your first two solo albums in 2006?

Click the cover to read all.

The chatroom has opened – and closed – today, but details of the month’s remaining chat sessions can be found on the calendar.

Please check it regularly, as the times may change at short notice (although rarely do).

If you’re thinking of visiting for the first time, please don’t be shy; it’s been a pleasure meeting new fans over the last few weeks.

Blog Poll: Do you care to read reviews? 74% vote 'Yes', 26% vote 'No'.

There have been reviews a-plenty added to the archives this week, if you’re interested.

Alternatively, if you’ve got your ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’ – or maybe just a vivid imagination and unwavering faith – and can write one of those snappy one-line reviews that you see on the back of DVDs and books (there’s probably a name for them, but I’ll be damned if I can think of it, hence the hopeful squashing together of words that make up this post’s title), don’t be shy. Some of us could do with a laugh.

Linda’s “It rocks a big one” will take some beating, mind you.

Remember: less is more and it should fit on the CD cover. (Those of you still without the deluxe set have probably pictured that large, smooth box quite enough, right? I don’t want to make it harder for you. Or easier, depending on which way you look at it.)

Besides, it needs to stand out alongside someone else’s five star rating and another’s unnecessary exclamation marks.

So, very briefly, sum up the album in a way that would suitably intrigue those who hang around shops, idly browsing, during their lunch hour.

Something else to look forward to on UK TV: the three-part ‘Imagine’ series, presented by Alan Yentob and entitled ‘The Story of the Guitar’, which David has contributed to, starts this Sunday at 22:20 (UK) on BBC1.

David on stage in Gdańsk, by Piotr Tarasewicz

A quick round-up of reminders.

First, the Planet Rock/Guy Pratt interview you were expecting tonight is now on Sunday at 17:00 (UK). Listen online. If you’re in the UK, you can also listen through your TV or DAB digital radio.

Before that, you might be interested in a radio special – which includes an interview – from Belgium, which starts on Sunday morning at 09:00 (CET), on Classic 21.

There’s more from Later… with Jools Holland tonight, as part of a BBC night dedicated to David. That starts at 21:10 (UK) on BBC4 with an hour from the GdaĹ„sk concert, plus the ‘GdaĹ„sk Diary’ DVD extra, followed by another documentary: ‘The Pink Floyd Story…’ (originally broadcast in 1994).

Turn over to BBC2 or BBC HD immediately after that, as David will be performing ‘The Blue’ and ‘Remember a Day’ for Jools, from 23:35 (UK).

The BBC4 programmes are repeated in the early hours of Saturday morning – from 01:30 (UK).

If you can’t wait for your next fix, here is something from New Zealand’s 3 News, something from today’s Sun newspaper, and, if you haven’t heard it yet, last weekend’s US radio special in full.

The Blog’s now closed for the weekend, but will be back on Monday.

'David in September's Teraz Rock magazineThere have been many articles added to the archives lately, including some from the Polish press. (Thank you, Tomasz, for sending these in.)

If you spot anything interesting, particularly if it’s not in English, let me know.

There hasn’t been much talk of the free ‘A Great Day For Freedom’ download, so here’s that link again, just in case you haven’t been paying attention to the Latest News. (Tut, tut.)

I’d also like to know two things.

1. Who went to see the Gdańsk gig on the big screen on Monday, where did you see it, and how did it go?

2. Do you have your copy of ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’ yet? Whether your thumbs are up or down, speak to me.

As some people are still waiting for theirs, please remember that discussion of DVD Easter eggs should take place here, not here, or anywhere else. Some like surprises, apparently.

And finally, the chatroom is open today from 13:00 (UK), so feel free to drop in and talk about whatever you like… Almost. Don’t forget those red rules on your way in.

There’ll be updates on the various delays, and all this trouble with iTunes, just as soon as I know anything useful. Until then, as ever, I can only sincerely apologise for the confusion and disappointment caused, and ask you to be patient while these issues are being resolved.

'Live in Gdańsk', as reviewed by Guitarist magazine

First, let’s clear up this confusion over where you can get the five-disc ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’ set in the USA.

Not the official webstore, sorry. Only Best Buy.

If you already pre-ordered through the Fan Fare link on the homepage, then I’m afraid your order will be cancelled. It should never have gone through in the first place. Sorry for the hassle.

There’s nothing extra included, by the way. The only real “exclusive” is the ‘Wot’s…’ CD, which you can only get from independent stores in the States.

Here are two more: Finest Record Stores in Colorado (with stores in Fort Collins and Greeley) and

The Record Exchange in Boise, Idaho. They’ll ship overseas, but they ask that you consider the cost involved in doing so.

Two new things to look at, and something to keep an eye on.

Barnes & Noble have ‘On an Island’ (also a preview, made up of several concert clips).

There are album reviews and interviews from Guitarist and Mojo magazines in Press.

And ‘The Blue’ will be at YouTube tomorrow. Unless it’s early again, so best keep looking.

If you can wait, or just have better things to do than refresh your browser, it will be here sometime tomorrow.

David rehearsing in Gdańsk, 26 August 2006

Seeing as some of you have already heard this news over the airwaves this evening…

Do tune in to Radcliffe & Maconie for a live ‘Echoes’ exclusive on Wednesday 24 September.

As well as ‘Echoes’ in all its glory, David will chat.

You can listen online, either live (Listen in the top-right) or by selecting Listen Again (scroll down the page and select the desired day; you have a full week after the broadcast to do so).

That’s Wednesday 24 September between 20:00 and 22:00 (UK), BBC Radio 2.

If you’re in the UK, you can find Radio 2 at 88-91 FM, listen through your DAB
digital radio or even your television: channel 0102 on Sky, 902 on Virgin and 702 on Freeview.

Stuart Maconie, you may recall, compèred the ‘Remember That Night’ premiere at London’s Leicester Square last year.

Don’t forget the current issue of Mojo magazine, available now, which is worth picking up. It’s the one with Queen on the cover.

A beautiful sunset, courtesy of RobHere’s August’s, courtesy of Rob, who says it reminds him of ‘Where We Start’.

What do you think? Click for a better look.

Very nice, Rob. Thanks for sharing.

You can hear three songs (no, not ‘Echoes’…) from ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’ on Planet Rock tonight from 22:00 (UK). Listen online (either live or later, on demand) or, if you’re in the UK, through your television: channels 0110 and 924 on Sky and Virgin respectively.

The Uncut magazine mentioned yesterday is now in the Press archive, so have a read.

And just to follow up on that Indie store promotion: Fingerprints – of Long Beach, California – is one such store that will ship to many parts of the world. If you really, really want that exclusive ‘Wot’s… Uh The Deal’ CD, do consider them. I’ll have their prices and shipping rates next week, so please don’t contact them to ask for them.

That’s all for another week. More on Monday, when it will be September and we’ll all be inching that little bit nearer to the release of ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’, in all its forms.

Until then, have a lovely weekend.

David on stage in Gdańsk, Poland (26 August 2006)

I told you yesterday how you can get ‘Wot’s… Uh The Deal’ free at iTunes (by downloading the live album in its entirety, you cannot download it individually).

Well, if you download the live album and the 12 live tracks (including ‘Wot’s…’) from iTunes, you’ll also get four free videos: ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’ (from GdaĹ„sk), ‘Wearing The Inside Out’ (from the Mermaid Theatre) and ‘Take A Breath’ (from Abbey Road).

Unless you’re in Europe, that is, in which case you won’t get the GdaĹ„sk footage, just ‘Wearing The Inside Out’ and ‘Take A Breath’. (Don’t ask…)

If you haven’t seen it yet, Amazon now has that ‘Comfortably Numb’ edit, and here’s an improvement in quality from what you’ve already seen at YouTube.

Do be on the lookout for the latest editions of Mojo, Q and Uncut magazines, as they have album reviews. The latter also has a Q&A, apparently.

If you have been looking out for the videos mentioned previously, then you can stop looking at Borders for the time being, as theirs won’t be appearing for another week or two.

Oh, and here’s a link to help you find your nearest indie store, if you’re in the States.

Le Progrès, 31 July 2006Two years to the day, David and the band were in France for what proved to be a very special concert at Vienne’s remarkable Théâtre Antique.

Of the 12 bonus live tracks which compliment the ‘Live in GdaĹ„sk’ album, on CD and free to download, four are from this concert: ‘The Blue’, ‘This Heaven’, ‘A Pocketful of Stones’ and ‘Where We Start’.

A great night for the new numbers, clearly, but what of the older ones? If you were there, which did you like best? We’d love to share your memories with you.

There are a couple of newspaper reviews from the French press to mark the occasion today. Please click the image for those. You’ll see Le Progrès and Le DauphinĂ© LibĂ©rĂ©, as well as all future press items, marked as ‘new’ for your convenience.

The Blog is taking a short break tomorrow, so will be closed, save for the Flashback posts, over the weekend. Back on Monday.

Whatever you do over the weekend, have a good one.

The Word magazine's coverage of June's Cadogan Hall concertAs Byron pointed out earlier this week, the current (that’s August) edition of The Word magazine has a two-page spread on last month’s Cadogan Hall show, which included a special performance of the ‘Atom Heart Mother’ suite.

You can now read this article in full by clicking the image to your right.

Thanks again to Byron for bringing it to my attention.

If you ever spot anything Gilmour-related in the media, be it press, television or radio, please do continue to let me know so that I can, hopefully, let others know.

Well, that’s another week been and gone. The Blog will be taking a short break next week, so Sunday’s post will have to be enough to tide you over until the end of the week. I’m sure you’ll survive without me.

Perhaps a more worrying prospect for some, there will be no chat sessions for a while, either. News of when the chatroom will next be swinging open its doors can be found, as always, here.

We’re not quite there yet, but we’re close enough, so…

Have a good weekend, everyone.

David in France's Guitarist magazine, April 2006There are some new additions to the Press section this week – in English, French, German and Italian.

Stand-out articles include a review of ‘On an Island’ from Germany’s brilliantly-named Industrial Technology & Witchcraft (OK, so maybe I just wanted an excuse to ’say’ that), plus a rather nice piece from France’s Guitarist magazine, as shown.

If you don’t want to go back to March or October of 2002 (for Compact and another fine Guitarist spread) or to February, April or May of 2006 (for several album/tour-specific items from around Europe), there’s always last month’s Guitar Club – from Italy.

There’s also a Times review of the recent Cadogan Hall show; the only English addition, by the way.

If you’ve ever sent me anything for the Press section, thank you very much. Your contributions are always welcome, so please continue to pass whatever you find in this general direction. It can’t all be added, but, as long as it’s about David, it certainly will be considered.

Local press reports covering the 2006 concerts would be wonderful, if you have any…

David on the cover of Guitarra Total magazineSpanish magazine, Guitarra Total, has a six-page article about our David. Or his increasingly famous black Strat, to be more precise.

It’s available to buy, should you require your own glossy copy, in Spain, Portugal and Mexico.

If your Spanish is up to it, or if you just like looking at the pictures, please click the magazine cover.

Many thanks to Manel for kindly scanning and sending this article.

The chatroom is closed today, but will be open tomorrow between 09:00 and 11:00 (UK).

Don’t forget that part of ‘Remember That Night’ is on 3sat this afternoon…

And, as I know you’re wondering, I’m sorry to say that there is still no update on the Signature Strat. When there is one, details will be here ASAP.

Page 46 of Rock & Folk magazine, April 2006More press from France for you today: the April 2006 edition of Rock & Folk magazine, if you missed it the first time ’round.

If your French is up to it, you can now read the full article in the Press archives. Please click the image for that.

The piece also includes another nice photograph of David – with Pink Floyd, back in 1973, this time – in the Saint-Germain des PrĂ©s district of Paris, which may be new to some of you.

Thanks to Michèle for submitting this article.

If you have anything for the Press archives, do let me know.

There are two more chats scheduled for this week, the next one being tomorrow: 11:00 – 13:00 (UK).

Please see the calendar for more.

David in Guitare Xtreme magazine

The latest (that’s the March/April) edition of French magazine, Guitare Xtreme, has a rather nice spread devoted to David’s guitars, gear and good nature.

If you can read French*, you can read the full article over in the Press archives. Click the sample page to go there right now.

Many thanks to Michèle for sending it in.

If you spot any magazine or newspaper articles about David which you think may be of interest to readers of The Blog, please let me know.

*A translation service is not offered here, by the way, so please don’t ask.
