May 2006: Rehearsing at Bray Film Studios. Our Blotto winner was… BrookC, who guessed seven of the 23 ‘Remember That Night’ songs in their correct order.

Congratulations! A tour programme, signed by David (along with a unique Blotto-related message), is your prize. Please let us know where we should send it.

Well done also to Gabrielle, Graham and Marko, for totalling an impressive six, and to Chantelle, Chris Parkinson, Piergiorgio, Tim Taylor and Tomasz – who correctly guessed a slightly less impressive, but still honourable, five.

Thank you all for playing along.

Today’s picture is one of Polly’s, this one taken during rehearsals at Bray Studios last May.

Keep reading for the latest of Phil’s Q&A, which I’m glad you’re enjoying.

Lastly, thank you very much for the kind words about the new OAIPod and David’s re-vamped MySpace page. I’m glad that you like them.

You and the band seemed very relaxed during the ‘On an Island’ tour: a lot of laughing during the concerts, a lot of eye contact between you and David. He always watched over to you when you played your solo for the ‘On an Island’ track. Is there one funny moment you remember with pleasure? (Werner)

Yes, when he performed ‘On the Turning Away’, a track that Stevie and I had never rehearsed and that Guy hadn’t played for 14 years. Not exactly a pleasurable moment, but one that certainly I’ll remember!

I’d like to know what do you think of the band, especially of Stevie and Guy? (Emilio)

I love them all.

Do you do any kind of warm up before going on stage? I know you do a sound check, but I mean just before you step out. (Robyn S)

Highly recommended, but don’t. The group hug that Madonna does is not really our style!

What was your favourite destination on the Gilmour tour and why? (Simon J)

Venice. It’s like going back in time and there is something very ‘otherworldly’ about it – and appropriate for the tour, as we were literally ‘On an Island’.

If every band member on the tour was given the opportunity to suggest a venue/city for the tour schedule, where would you have suggested (regardless of the venue capacity)? (Tom B)

The Malekon, Havana – next to the Nacional Hotel.

Remember That Night DVD (2007)If you can’t wait until the DVD is released – Monday 17 September in Europe, Tuesday 18 September everywhere else – then we have some very good news for some of you.

You’ll be able to see concert footage from ‘Remember The Night’ at a participating cinema near you… if you’re in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the UK or US.

This event, on Thursday 6 September, is going to be quite special, so write the date down in your diaries, on the back of your hand, or somewhere.

The perfect excuse for another blog get-together, perhaps?

Details are still being finalised, so please don’t ask for more information just yet, but we’re looking at about 120 cinemas across the US, 50 in Canada, 15 in the UK and a handful in Denmark, Germany, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

I’ll have a full list of participating cinemas, with Box Office links, as soon as possible – starting with the UK tomorrow.

Ticket prices are very reasonable, ranging from roughly $12 in the US to £18 in the UK. This is in accordance with average cinema rates and, we think, is not too much to charge to be able to enjoy the concert in high definition, with the best available sound and visuals.

As always, it’s up to you and I welcome your thoughts.

There’s also a little extra bonus, besides seeing the concert. I’ll tell you about that tomorrow.

Interested? Come and let me know what you think about all this. The chatroom is open right now, closing at 12PM (UK time).

The above is another image from ‘Remember That Night’. Please click it for a closer look.

And before you ask, I haven’t forgotten about Blotto… although the winner seems to have forgotten all about it. I’ll announce who has won, and the prize, on Thursday or Friday.

Remember That Night DVD (2007)Our Blotto game always had to end sometime (yes, I’m sad about it, too), but, look on the bright side: you now know which songs will be on Disc One of David’s double-disc live concert extravaganza, ‘Remember That Night’.

The 23 tracks in full are (so, if you don’t want to know, please look away now):

01. ‘Speak To Me’
02. ‘Breathe’
03. ‘Time’
04. ‘Breathe (Reprise)’
05. ‘Castellorizon’
06. ‘On An Island’
07. ‘The Blue’
08. ‘Red Sky At Night’
09. ‘This Heaven’
10. ‘Then I Close My Eyes’
11. ‘Smile’
12. ‘Take A Breath’
13. ‘A Pocketful Of Stones’
14. ‘Where We Start’
15. ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’
16. ‘Fat Old Sun’
17. ‘Coming Back To Life’
18. ‘High Hopes’
19. ‘Echoes’
20. ‘Wish You Were Here’
21. ‘Find The Cost Of Freedom’ (featuring David Crosby and Graham Nash)
22. ‘Arnold Layne’ (featuring David Bowie)
23. ‘Comfortably Numb’ (featuring David Bowie)

Thanks to everyone for playing along and for giving me a chance to cruelly drip-feed the information to you, laboratory-style. Hope you ‘enjoyed’ it.

I’ll announce the prize, and winner, later in the week.

Did I ever tell you that there will be several bonus tracks from the Royal Albert Hall shows on Disc Two? They just couldn’t fit them all onto Disc One, you see. I’ll have to tell you about those some other time.

Maybe even in the chatroom later…

If you have been affected by Blotto, our chatroom will be open today from 3PM (UK time) and counsellors will be on hand to help you come to terms with your feelings.

Remember That Night DVD (2007)All good things must come to an end, so here are the final four numbers that are just itching to be scratched off your Blotto cards.

The 20th song to be revealed is ‘Speak To Me‘. This is the first track on the concert disc.

There was some confusion among the fans over whether or not this song had even been performed. We enjoyed that, partly because we weren’t even sure ourselves.

The 21st song to be revealed is ‘Smile‘, which will be number ‘11‘.

The 22nd song to be revealed is the one that some of you started to panic about as the weeks rolled by. Yes, it’s ‘Echoes‘, at number ‘19‘. (How could we possibly leave that one out?)

And last, but not least, the 23rd song to be revealed is ‘Arnold Layne‘ – featuring David Bowie. This is your ’22′ (and you’re only correct if you named Mr Bowie, don’t forget).

So that wraps up Blotto. How many did you get right? We’ll announce the prize, and winner, later this week.

One quick note.

Even though the discs used are DVD-9 dual layer discs, which allow a greater playing time, 23 songs was the most we could possibly fit on without having to split the concert over two discs, which we didn’t want to do. So, there had to be a few omissions.

I know that some of you had been hoping for the likes of ‘Wearing The Inside Out’ and ‘Dominoes’, so I’m sorry to disappoint.

That said, it’s not a bad list of songs, is it?

Remember That Night DVD (2007)I have a bonanza of Blotto for you today, with four – yes, four (what the heck?) – of the remaining eight mystery songs being recklessly announced… for the sake of everyone’s sanity.

If you’d given up on Blotto, then you might want to reach for your Blotto card after this.

The 16th song to be revealed is ‘Breathe‘, which will be the second tune on the concert DVD.

The 17th song to be revealed is ‘Castellorizon‘, which will be the DVD’s fifth live song.

The 18th song to be revealed is ‘Where We Start‘, which is where we end, as far as the ‘On an Island’ set is concerned. It’s number 14.

And the 19th song to be revealed is an old Pink Floyd number called ‘Fat Old Sun‘, or something like that (you seem to be rather fond of it, whatever it’s called). This little ditty will take up the oh-so controversial ’16′ space on both concert disc and Blotto card.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Once you’re done with your pipe, please mark these spaces on your game card. You know the rest (complete a line, shout “Blotto!”, tally up your correct guesses, be entered into a prize draw, win something really great, etc.).

There are 23 songs from the Royal Albert Hall taking up the first DVD of David’s forthcoming double-disc set, ‘Remember That Night’, which is released in September and is absolutely crammed with goodies.

The picture above is taken from the live DVD. Please click it for a better look. There are plenty of screenshots to come.

So, how’s your Blotto card looking after that crazed outburst? Better?

Do tell. You can do so here, below, or save it for the chatroom, which is open tomorrow from 2PM (UK time).

Remember That Night DVD (2007)

For consistency’s sake (and also as a test to see who reads):

Please reach for your Blotto card… if you can bear to look at it.

Look on the bright side. At least, after this, you’ll be one step closer towards knowing the full list of songs to feature on the concert disc of David’s forthcoming live DVD, ‘Remember That Night’.

The 15th song to be named is ‘The Blue‘, which is the seventh song.

Last week’s Name That Tune snap was indeed an image of ‘The Blue’, taken straight from the DVD. Just like the image above, in fact.

Please cross off ’7′ on your card. You’re only right if you guessed that ‘The Blue’ would take seventh spot. Anything else is wrong.

The aim of Blotto is to complete a line on your Blotto card, either horizontally or vertically, and to exclaim "Blotto!" the moment you do so. We don’t expect to hear such a cry, unfortunately, but do keep tallying up your correct guesses. There is a prize, and you’re only eligible to win it if you humour us by continuing with the charade.

‘Remember That Night’ is released worldwide in September.

The chatroom will be open on Monday from 11AM (UK).

Remember That Night DVD (2007)You guessed bravely, but few of you guessed correctly.

Sunday’s picture was taken during the band’s performance of ‘This Heaven’.

For real this time, but still just for fun…

There’s no Melody Roulette or Golden Medley rounds, but this is very much Name That Tune (a popular television quiz show, from the decade that gave us striped leggings and mullets, where contestants had to put forth a song title after hearing just a few bars of music).

Far too easy, I’m sure you’ll agree, so we’ll try it with pictures instead.

The image above is from one of the remaining nine songs that we have yet to reveal. Click it for a closer look.

Try and guess the song being performed and, if you can or care, which slot it’s taking up on the DVD.

Remember that the only slots as yet unannounced are as follows: one, two, five, seven, 11, 14, 16, 19 and 22.

Forget your original Blotto entry. You know that it’s a lost cause. Go with your heart on this (as your heads were quite clearly all over the place when you submitted your lists of 23 songs).

I’ll name the song when I announce the next Blotto number. Funnily enough, the next song to be revealed is the very one which is being performed in the screenshot above.

So, can you name that tune in one, two or three pictures?

The chatroom is open from 4PM (UK time) today, especially to those who wish to talk about old television quiz shows.

Remember That Night DVD (2007)

We are just ten songs away from completing the track listing of David’s brilliant new DVD, which is released in September and is rather suitably titled ‘Remember That Night’.

The 14th song to be revealed is ‘This Heaven‘, which will be the ninth song on the concert disc.

And as if a concert disc isn’t enough, there is also a second disc made up entirely of extra material. We’ll tell you a little more about these extras before the month is out (but only if you’re good).

Meanwhile, please mark the ’9′ space on your cards appropriately. If you guessed that ‘This Heaven’ would take up the ninth space on both disc and card, then well done you. If you guessed anything else, better luck next time.

As much as we’d love a cry of "Blotto!" should you complete a line on your Blotto card, either horizontally or vertically, we don’t hold out much hope. Yet do keep tallying up your correct guesses and let us know how you’re doing.

Also, tell us what you think of these exclusive DVD screenshots. We’ll be showing plenty of them over the next week or so, and most of the ones we’ll be showing are taken from the nine songs we are yet to announce.

Maybe they’ll help, maybe they’ll hinder. They’ll most likely just confirm how badly you’ve done at Blotto.

Go on, have a guess at which song the shot above is taken from. It’s from a song you already know to be included on the concert disc.

Click it to see a larger, high-resolution version.

There won’t be a chat session until Tuesday, but do drop by from 4PM (UK time) if you fancy it. You’ll be made to feel very welcome.

May 18 & 19, 2006: Rehearsing at Bray. Thanks for letting us know which of the 11 remaining slots on the concert DVD, and therefore, on your Blotto card, intrigues you most.

If you’re still playing along, please reach for your Blotto card, because the 13th song to be revealed is ‘Time’, which will be the third track on the concert DVD.

No surprises there, then.

Please mark the ’3′ space on your game card accordingly. If you guessed that ‘Time’ would be the third song, then you are correct. Anything else is, sadly, incorrect.

If you need reminding, the aim of the game is to complete a line, horizontally or vertically, on your card with correct guesses. If you manage to do this, please let us know by letting out a delirious squeal of “Blotto!” and your name will be entered into a prize draw.

Even if you don’t expect to complete a line, do keep tallying up your correct guesses. Whoever has guessed the most songs and has put them in the correct order will scoop the prize (which is as yet undecided, but there are some good ideas bouncing around).

There are 23 songs on the concert DVD of David’s forthcoming double-disc set, ‘Remember That Night’, which will be out in September. These songs are all from the Royal Albert Hall.

Thank you all for playing along. Good luck.

Last, but by no means least, the winners of our ‘Where We Start’ contest are Rob and Shannon.

Congratulations, both. Please let us know where we should send your prizes by leaving a message in the usual manner below.

The chatroom will be open tomorrow from 1PM (UK), so feel free to use it to celebrate, commiserate, speculate, ruminate, nauseate, etc.

000013_blog.jpgWe’re back with Blotto, the game sensation that’s sweeping the world.

The 12th song to be revealed is ‘Then I Close My Eyes’, which will be the tenth song to feature on the live concert disc of David’s forthcoming double-DVD, ‘Remember That Night’ – five-minutes of which you can see over on the Latest News page.

Please mark the ’10′ space on your Blotto cards appropriately.

Although Blotto’s aim is to complete a line – either horizontally or vertically – with correct guesses on your Blotto card, because I’ve taken pity on you over the last few weeks, I will award a prize to the person who tallies up the most correct guesses.

So, fear not, you don’t have to complete a line on your game card.

Yes, I know. I’m just as disappointed that there are unlikely to be any frenzied shouts of “Blotto!” in the next few weeks.

There are 23 songs on the first disc of David’s double-DVD, all of them recorded live at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall last May. (Incidentally, the last of these shows was a year ago today. Doesn’t it only seem like yesterday?)

The second disc has many, many wonderful extras. I’ll have to tell you more about them one of these days. You’re going to love them.

‘Remember That Night’ is released in September: that’s Monday 17 September in Europe and Tuesday 18 September in North America.

David plays the cümbüş, as pictured above, on ‘Then I Close My Eyes’. As you can see, the cümbüş is a Turkish stringed instrument, rather like a banjo.

‘On an Island’ also included David’s debut on saxophone (on the track ‘Red Sky At Night’, song eight on the ‘Remember That Night’ DVD).

Just out of interest, which Blotto number are you most curious about? I’d love to know. There are 11 left, all rather nicely spread out…

You could tell me in the chatroom, which will be open today between 12PM and 2PM (UK) and on Friday between 2PM and 4PM (UK).

Please have your Blotto cards at the ready once more…

The 11th song to be revealed from David’s forthcoming DVD set is ‘Comfortably Numb’ (featuring David Bowie), which will be the concert’s 23rd, and final, song.

So, something extra to look forward to for all you Bowie fans.

There are 23 songs on the concert disc of ‘Remember That Night’, which documents the Royal Albert Hall shows of May 2006. The second disc is made up of assorted extras.

Please mark the ’23′ space on your cards. If you guessed that ‘Comfortably Numb’ would be the 23rd song, then you are right. However, it’s only correct if you mentioned David Bowie.

If you guessed any other song for the number 23 slot, then hard luck.

Quite a few of you did guess correctly, so well done to you.

The aim of Blotto is to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, on your Blotto card with correct song/space guesses. If you do, then we’d love to ‘hear’ you exclaim "Blotto!" as much as we’d love to enter your name into a prize draw.

The best of luck to all who are playing along.

We hope you’re keeping tabs on your correct guesses, even if your Blotto cards aren’t looking too promising.

The songs we’ve announced from ‘Remember That Night’ so far are as follows: ‘Breathe (Reprise)’ (4), ‘On An Island’ (6), ‘Red Sky at Night’ (8), ‘Take A Breath’ (12), ‘A Pocketful of Stones’ (13), ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ (15), ‘Coming Back To Life’ (17), ‘High Hopes’ (18), ‘Wish You Were Here’ (20) and ‘Find The Cost Of Freedom’ (21).

Please note that the version of ‘Wish You Were Here’ featured on the DVD is not the one where Nick Mason made a guest appearance.

Our chatroom is closed today, but will be open tomorrow between the hours of 2PM and 4PM (UK time). Everyone is welcome.

The Barbican tribute concert for Syd (May 2007)Blotto cards at the ready once more, please. You’ll like this one.

The tenth song to be revealed is – wait for it – ‘Breathe (Reprise)’, which will be the – are you sure you’re ready for this? – fourth song on the concert DVD.

That’s ‘Breathe (Reprise)’, song four.

Please suitably mark the ’4′ space on your Blotto cards and congratulate yourself heartily if you guessed that ‘Breathe (Reprise)’ would be the fourth song on the concert disc.

As so few of you will be congratulating yourselves right about now, go ahead and grumble about the fact that the setlists here on the blog (including your own offerings) and over on our calendar deliberately confused you as to whether ‘Breathe’, ‘Time’ and ‘Breathe (Reprise)’ would be considered one song, or three.

Why on earth would they be anything other than three songs?!

Oh, you’re too easy.

Remember – as if you could forget – that Blotto’s aim (other than irritating you, of course) is to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, with correct guesses on your Blotto card. If you complete a line, cry “Blotto!” and you will be entered into a prize draw.

There are 23 songs on the concert DVD of David’s forthcoming double-disc set, ‘Remember That Night’, all of which were recorded at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall in May of last year.

This fine DVD will be in the shops in September – and we’ll be telling you more about it as the month draws to a close.

Thanks for playing along with our wicked little game and the best of luck to all. You need it.

The above photograph was taken by Polly at Thursday’s concert for Syd at the Barbican in London. It’s a cracking picture, so please click it for a better look.

We’re asking whether or not you were surprised that David turned up at the ‘Madcap’s Last Laugh’ concert in our latest poll. If you haven’t voted yet, please do. Apparently, 75% of you were not surprised…

There’s no chat today, but the chatroom will be open tomorrow from 3PM (UK). Do feel free to drop by.

How are we all doing with Blotto? If you’re still playing along, it’s that time again, so have your cards at hand…

The ninth song to be revealed from the ‘Remember That Night’ concert DVD is ‘Take A Breath’, which will be the 12th song.

Please mark the ’12′ space on your Blotto card accordingly. If you have anything other than ‘Take A Breath’ jotted down around the number 12, then you are incorrect. Better luck next time.

There are still 14 songs to go, don’t forget.

The aim of Blotto is to complete a line on your game card, either horizontally or vertically, with correct song/space guesses. If you complete a line, shout out "Blotto!" and you will be entered into a prize draw.

If it’s looking increasingly unlikely that you will ever complete a line, just keep a tally of how many correct guesses you have made.

There are 23 songs included on the first disc of David’s forthcoming double-DVD, ‘Remember That Night’, which will be released in September. The second disc contains all the extras.

If you care to know, our chatroom will next be open on Tuesday morning between the hours of 11AM and 1PM (UK time).

Thanks to everyone who has popped in recently, especially the first-timers. It’s always great to see new ‘faces’.

So, if you’re still thinking about taking the plunge, don’t be shy.

14dg_blog.jpg

No, we’re not giving away anything else yet (and it doesn’t matter how nicely you ask), but we will say that the eighth song to be revealed from David’s forthcoming double-disc set is ‘Coming Back To Life’, which will be the 17th track on the concert disc.

So, please mark the ’17′ space on your Blotto cards accordingly. If you guessed that ‘Coming Back To Life’ would be the 17th song, you are absolutely right. If you didn’t, what’s wrong with you? Plenty of people did and we salute you all. Well done.

If you’re still in doubt as to the aim of Blotto, then you need to complete a line on your Blotto card, either horizontally or vertically, with correct song/space guesses.

We’re not sure as to the actual point of Blotto ourselves, so please don’t ask. Please feel free to hazard a guess, though.

There are 23 songs on the concert disc of ‘Remember That Night’, which will be in the shops in September, combined with a second disc that’s absolutely chock-a-block full of extra goodies.

Funnily enough, there are 23 numbered spaces on your Blotto card. All we asked is that you place a song in each space and try your luck. (Not very lucky, you lot, are you?)

Anyway, if you do manage to complete a line, let us know by letting out an excited squeal of "Blotto!" and you will be entered into a prize draw. If you don’t, just hang in there.

Thanks for playing along and the best of luck.

As we still get regular queries, please note the following: The concert disc of ‘Remember That Night’ is made up of songs from the Royal Albert Hall shows of May 2006 only. No Gdansk. No Venice. No Toronto. Just little old London.

So we now have ‘Coming Back To Life’, with no sign of ‘Fat Old Sun’ as yet. Is anyone else concerned? Where’s ‘Wot’s… Uh, The Deal’? Why no mention of ‘Wearing The Inside Out’? What of ‘Dominoes’? Why is the sky blue? Did that wicked David leave these songs out? He always seemed like such a nice man, too.

You’ll just have to wait and see…

The chatroom will be open today between 2PM and 4PM (UK), if anyone wants to call in. Just note that doors close at 4PM sharp.

12_blog.jpg

It’s that time again, so, if you haven’t chewed it beyond recognition, please grab your Blotto cards.

We’ve announced six songs already and the seventh to be revealed is… ‘Find The Cost Of Freedom’, which will be the 21st song featured on David’s ‘Remember That Night’ double-disc set.

Featuring the instantly-recognisable vocal harmonies of the two gentlemen above, David Crosby and Graham Nash, the song was originally recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young back in 1971.

And who better than Messrs. Crosby and Nash if you’re stuck for two other singers to vote for – in addition to our David, naturally – in Q107′s Greatest Classic Rock Singers of All Time poll?

Thanks to Rudders for telling us about it. You can vote until 11 May.

‘Remember That Night’ will be in the shops in September and it’s a real beauty. It’s due for release on Monday 17 September in Europe and on Tuesday 18 September in North America.

There are 23 songs on disc one, and more extras than you can wave a big stick at on disc two.

The concert consists of songs from the Royal Albert Hall gigs only.

Please mark the ’21′ spot on your Blotto card. You are only right if you guessed that ‘Find The Cost Of Freedom’ would be the 21st song – and quite a few of you did just that. Well done to you.

But don’t get too full of yourselves. You only get to let out a valid shout of "Blotto!" if you complete an entire line. Your feeble cries leave us completely unmoved if you’ve only got one or two songs right so far, so don’t get too excited: there’s a long, long way to go yet.

The aim of Blotto is to complete a line on your card, either horizontally or vertically. You must match the song to its space (23 songs, 23 spaces). If you guess enough song/spaces to complete a full line, beat your chest with your fists and "Blotto!" like your life depends on it. That’ll move us enough to enter you into a prize draw.

Our chatroom will be open between 10AM and 12PM (UK) today.

Please also note the amendments to May’s chat schedule here.

19stevie_blog.jpg

It’s time to reach for your Blotto cards again, folks…

The sixth song to be revealed from David’s ‘Remember That Night’ double-DVD – in the shops in September – is ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’, which will be the 15th song on disc one.

There are 23 songs on this disc (the second being made up of extras), all of which are from the Royal Albert Hall shows of May 2006.

Please mark the ’15′ space on your cards with a tick, cross or suitable facial expression. If you guessed that ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ would take the 15th spot, then you are right. (Smile!)

The aim of Blotto is to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, on your Blotto card. You can only complete a line with correct guesses, so you must match the song to its numerical spot. If you manage to do so, please let us know by letting out an excited squeak of “Blotto!” and you’ll be entered into a prize draw.

If you’ve missed the other five songs revealed, then they were:

06: ‘On An Island’
08: ‘Red Sky at Night’
13: ‘A Pocketful of Stones’
18: ‘High Hopes’ and
20: ‘Wish You Were Here’ (with Stevie on drums, not Nick Mason).

Good luck to all who are playing.

Here are a few more of Stevie’s answers. My thanks to all who sent in a question for him.

If you have a question for Phil Manzanera, please be sure to send it to the right place (that’s here, not here). Thanks to everyone who has submitted a question so far. There have been some really good ones.

Have a nice weekend, all.

Do your arms ever get so tired you wonder if you will lose time? I notice during ‘High Hopes’ that you kept time by drumming against your leg while striking the bell. Why was this? (Graham Knight)

My arms used to get fatigued as a younger drummer because I thought I had to muscle everything out and over play, but as time went on I learned how to relax and let the sticks do the work. I keep time on my leg for consistency and to keep a sub-division going. The part is to play off 8ths on a foundry bell, so there is a lot of space between the beats, so I tap to keep the time in check. Also, Jon Carin is counting on me to keep it together for his part.

Do you always externalise your feelings that much? (Luis Malheiro)

It’s funny when people tell me that I make faces when I play. They say that I smile a lot, but the honest truth is that I’m not even aware of it. I guess I’m just transported by the music and I’m reacting to the feeling.

13 April 2007 at 11:30 | Comments (89)

18dg_blog.jpgIt’s that time again, so have your Blotto cards close at hand…

As it’s Friday the 13th… The fifth song to be revealed is ‘A Pocketful of Stones’, which will be the 13th track on the concert DVD.

Please mark the ’13′ space on your cards accordingly. If you guessed that the 13th song would be ‘A Pocketful of Stones’, well done.

You probably don’t need reminding but, if you do, there are 23 songs on the concert DVD of David’s forthcoming double-disc set, ‘Remember That Night’ (hence 23 numbered spaces on your Blotto card). These songs are all taken from the Royal Albert Hall shows of May 2006.

The DVD is due for release on Monday 17 September in Europe and a day later, on Tuesday 18 September, in North America.

You probably don’t need reminding of Blotto’s aim, either. Just in case, you need to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, on your Blotto card. Only correct guesses will complete a line (you must match the right song to the right space). If you complete a line, we’ll enter you into a prize draw… on the condition that you humour us by including “Blotto!” in your blog post.

There’s no chat today, but there will be more chat sessions next week and, of course, more Blotto. Please see the calendar for details.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

We’ll leave you with some more from Stevie.

What was the most difficult David Gilmour/Pink Floyd song to master on this tour, Steve? Not that it looked like you had trouble with any of them. (Geoff Duffy)

I’d have to say that ‘High Hopes’ really made me think. I had to play off beat 8th notes on a tuned foundry bell with a mallet in my left hand, over my left shoulder, while switching back and fourth between mallet and sticks for the choruses. Jon Carin and I had to really listen to each other and lock in together, because our parts had to be perfectly in sync. Also, since it has such an orchestral feel to it, I really had to pay attention to the dynamic shape of the tune, which made it a fun challenge.

How did you pick up ‘On The Turning Away’ so quickly when David sprung it on the band in Venice with no rehearsals? (EchoesBob)

First of all, I love that tune and fortunately I had listened to it enough to understand the form and the groove. At first I thought he was just going to play it by himself, and then I saw Guy come bounding back on stage and it was like, “Oh man, here we go!” I waited for a kind of cue from David and, when I got the nod, I came in with the time. It was so fun and fresh feeling to all of us. Sometimes it pays not to rehearse a tune.

If you’re waiting for your Blotto fix, please grab your Blotto cards now.

The fourth song to be revealed is ‘On an Island’, which will be the sixth song on the concert disc.

There are 23 songs on this disc, all recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall last May. Disc two is made up of extras.

The double-DVD set, ‘Remember That Night’, will be available to buy in September. It’s due for release on Monday 17 September on the EMI label and on Tuesday 18 September on the Sony label.

Please mark the ’6′ space on your cards appropriately. It’s only right if you guessed that ‘On An Island’ would be the sixth song.

If you need reminding, the aim of Blotto is to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, on your Blotto card. Only correct song/space guesses will complete a line. If you guess well enough to complete a line, boldly declare “Blotto!” and we’ll enter you into a prize draw.

Good luck to all who are playing along.

The chatroom will be open between 4PM and 6PM (UK time) today, if you want to call in. Everyone’s welcome.

Here’s the latest from Stevie’s Q&A.

Thanks to everyone who sent in a question.

Was it difficult coming in to David’s band when the other members had played or worked together before? (LynnR)

I knew I had some HUGE shoes to fill, and I was pretty nervous coming into this band (who wouldn’t be?), but everyone was so welcoming, helpful and warm that all those feelings went away very quickly and we fell right into the music. I have to say that the chemistry was there from the start.

Describe David Gilmour in five. (Victor)

Renaissance Man, Great Father, Generous, Classy, A True Genius, A Gentleman… OK, that’s six.

Playing in David’s band and performing behind all those great musicians and special guests must obviously be a great thrill. Would you ever consider, when the time is right, writing a book of events as viewed by you (as Nick Mason did recently)? (Peter)

I’ve thought about writing a book about all these great experiences at some point, but I think that’s still a long way off.

Blotto cards at the ready (unless you’re too grumpy to play along, that is).

The third song to be revealed is ‘High Hopes’, which will be the 18th track on the concert DVD.

Please mark the ’18′ space on your Blotto cards accordingly. If you guessed that ‘High Hopes’ would be the 18th song on the concert DVD, then you are correct. Anything else is incorrect.

Remember that the aim of the game is to complete a line, horizontally or vertically, with correct guesses. If you manage it, let us know by letting out an excited squeal of "Blotto!" on the blog and you will be entered into a prize draw.

There are 23 songs on the concert DVD of David’s forthcoming double-disc set, ‘Remember That Night’, which you will be able to enjoy in September. These songs are from the Royal Albert Hall.

Thanks for playing along and good luck to all.

The chatroom is open, if you’re wondering, and will be until 1PM (UK) today. Feel free to drop in and discuss the latest on the DVD, share your ‘On An Island’ tour memories one year on, or just bemoan the price of chocolate eggs – whichever tickles your fancy.

You can let us know what you think of the DVD cover – now available in all its resplendent glory over on the Latest News page – with just a few clicks by voting on (or in) our current poll.

The next chat session is on Tuesday between 4PM and 6PM (UK).

We’ll have another Blotto announcement for you on Tuesday and some more from Stevie, too.

Until then, Happy Easter to all.

It’s time to reach for your Blotto cards again, folks…

The second song to be revealed from David’s forthcoming DVD set is ‘Red Sky at Night’, which will be the eighth song on disc one.

There are 23 songs on disc one (that’s the live concert DVD) of ‘Remember That Night’, all from the Royal Albert Hall shows of last May. Disc two is made up of a host of interesting extras. Just how interesting these extras are, you’ll have to wait and see.

Please mark the ’8′ space on your cards with a tick, cross, suitable facial expression, etc. If you guessed that ‘Red Sky at Night’ would be the eighth song, then you are absolutely right and deserve to see the most cheery of faces smiling up at you. If you guessed any other song for the number eight position, then, frankly, you don’t.

Remember that the aim of the game is to complete a line, either horizontally or vertically, on your Blotto card. We only want to know if you complete a line with correct guesses. If you achieve this mean feat, then we expect to ‘hear’ a hearty "Blotto!" from you. Only then will you be entered into a prize draw.

The very best of luck to all who are playing along.

The chatroom  is closed today, but will be open again tomorrow between 4PM and 6PM (UK). All are welcome.
