February, 2007: Jamming at David's Barn. Photo: Polly Samson.I regret to inform you that the scheduled release of ‘Remember That Night’ in both Brazil and Mexico has been delayed.

It should have been released on Wednesday in Brazil. It’s now out on Monday 15 October instead.

The planned release for Mexico – Monday 8 October – unfortunately cannot be met due to an issue with the DVD’s packaging. I’ll have a new date for you – on our calendar – just as soon as possible.

Apologies to disappointed fans in Brazil and Mexico.

There is no confirmed date as yet for Chile, but the DVD is now available in Argentina. Again, as soon as I hear from Sony and can give you more information, I’ll update you.

The winners in our latest contest are Andrew and Ax (who each win the exclusive ‘Remember That Night’ DVD set from Borders, with poster), Adriano and Michael (who each win the Best Buy equivalent, complete with bonus AOL Sessions CD), and Craig (who wins a five-track promo CD, as issued to US radio stations in the run-up to the DVD’s release).

The winning captions can be seen at the foot of this page.

Congratulations to all five of you, and thanks to everyone who submitted a caption. Choosing the five best ones was easier than picking out three, as originally planned.

Thanks also to everyone who sent in kind words about our DMA win, plus birthday greetings. Your support is always greatly appreciated.

The latest country to propel ‘Remember That Night’ to the top of its Music DVD chart is Denmark.

It has also reached the Number One spot in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Sweden, the UK and the US, but appears to have peaked at #3 in Holland, #2 in Ireland and #6 in Spain.

I’ve got a real treat for some of you on Monday, so don’t miss it.

Until then, have a very good weekend.

February, 2007: Jamming at David's Barn. Photo: Polly Samson.Well, thanks to your votes, we won the BT Digital Music Awards’, er, award for Best Music Blog.

Guy Pratt and Richard Wright collected the award for us at tonight’s ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden, highlights of which are televised on Channel 4 on Friday night/Saturday morning. Please see the calendar for details, although it’s not yet known whether this part of the event was covered by the TV cameras.

Thanks to Guy for doing the honours and, no doubt, for giving a typically-witty acceptance speech. Thanks to Richard for accompanying him. Thanks to the BT DMA folk, of course.

But, above all, thank you all very much for voting. We wouldn’t have won without your votes.

In the unlikely event of any Brazilian fans needing reminding, David’s ‘Remember That Night’ DVD is released in Brazil tomorrow. Please tell us what you think of it.

‘Remember That Night’ has just reached the top of the Music DVD charts in New Zealand, meaning that it has now reached the top spot in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, the UK and the US.

February, 2007: Jamming at David's Barn. Photo: Polly Samson.IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: DMA TICKETS

I have two pairs of tickets to attend the BT Digital Music Awards tomorrow night, where we stand a chance of winning the award for Best Music Blog (and DG Management of winning Best Official Music Site).

If you can make it to the Roundhouse in Camden by 8PM (UK time) tomorrow – and “dress smart,” as it says on the tickets – let me know.

However, you must be able to collect the tickets from the management office’s new location in London (N8) by 6PM (UK) tomorrow. There isn’t time to send them out to you, unfortunately.

If you can definitely meet the above criteria, let me know.

Just in case you’re still blinded by optimism, the Blu-ray (or blu-ray, Bluray, Blu-Ray, or whatever it’s called) version of David’s ‘Remember That Night’ set will not be released this month, as some reports have suggested.

It will definitely not be available before late-November.

I’ll have a precise date just as soon as one can be confirmed, so please continue to be patient. For now, it’s scheduled for Tuesday 20 November in North America, but this is subject to change.

The same applies for Fender’s David Gilmour Stratocaster, which will hopefully (that’s the best I can do right now, sorry) be launched the same week as the Blu-ray version of ‘Remember That Night’.

More, as ever, when it’s carved in stone.

Another update on how ‘Remember That Night’ is doing in the Music DVD charts… It’s now hit the Number One spot in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the UK and the US.

February, 2007: Jamming at David's Barn. Photo: Polly Samson. The winners of yesterday’s 24-hour contest are as follows:

- Borders exclusive ‘Remember That Night’ DVD (with Abbey Road mini-poster): Lorraine (for Tantastic).

- Best Buy exclusive ‘Remember That Night’ DVD (with three-track AOL Sessions CD): Pete from Germany (for Powerful).

- ‘Remember That Night’ programme from the UK & Europe premiere, plus a choice of any other listed prize: Tom (for being the only person to opt for Sincere, hence the extra prize).

- ‘Backstage’ pass from UK & Europe premiere: Andrew McHarg (for Magical… and I’ll throw in a programme, too, as the pass alone looks a bit rubbish).

- Promo CD, as issued to radio stations: Jessica (for Personal).

A bonus prize also goes to Tom B, for introducing us all to the word Tantastic. Thanks for that, Tom.

Congratulations to all six of you. Please let me know where you want your prizes sent, and they will be winging their way to you next week.

By the way, voting for the BT Digital Music People’s Choice Awards ends on Sunday. If you wish to cast a vote for us in the Best Music Blog and/or Best Official Music Site categories, please do.

I know that some of you have been voting religiously since I first told you about these awards. Thank you, all, for your time and support.

That’s all for another week. Have a good weekend, everyone.

Yes, that annoying pink button will be gone by Monday…

Remember That Night DVD (2007)IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: EXTRA VENUE, SWEDEN

Another venue has just been added to the list for Sweden: Torslanda.

That makes a total of 15 Swedish cinemas.

Please click here for full details and to order your tickets.

As you are no doubt aware, David’s new DVD, ‘Remember That Night: David Gilmour Live at The Royal Albert Hall’, will be premiered in Europe and North America next month.

This means 85 glorious minutes from the concert in the technological sweet shop that is a modern cinema environment.

As if that wasn’t enough, it will be broadcast to all participating cinemas, in High Definition, live via satellite from London.

And is if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, David is also going to be performing one live song (on electric guitar) and taking part in a live Q&A… which you can be involved in.

From today, I want your questions for David.

I’ve already had an absolute bagful of questions from fans for the North American Q&A – thanks very much – and the ‘best’ have now been chosen, so please don’t bother sneaking in another one here.

I only want questions for the UK & Europe premiere now.

So, if you’re in Europe, or if you will be going to see ‘Remember That Night’ at one of the cinemas in Europe, do send in a question.

All I ask is that it has nothing to do with Pink Floyd reunions, tribute bands or your demos, and that you keep it short and sweet.

As before, you may only submit one question each. In the interest of fairness, should you send in a list of questions, all will be considered ineligible. Indeed, the only entries that will be considered eligible will be presented exactly as follows.

Please copy and paste the following into the comment form below. You don’t need to give your full name or address. This information will be published for all to see, so please only add what you feel comfortable with sharing, but I do need a real name and region.

Real name:
Town/city, county and country:

I will/will not (please specify) be attending a participating European cinema. (Tell us which one, if you want to.)

Question:

You have until Friday 24 August at 5PM (UK) to submit your question. No questions will be considered after this time, so please don’t leave it until the last minute and miss out on this opportunity.

This next bit is obvious, but very important: Please do not send a question unless you are happy to record yourself asking it. Remember that your videos will be played at cinemas right across Europe. Everybody present at this cinema event will see, and hear, you – including David. He will then answer your question.

BBC Radio 2 will also be broadcasting some of the questions on the night, so everyone will be able to ‘tune in’ online.

If you are not prepared to do this, which is perfectly understandable, please do not submit a question.

Tickets are still available for this exciting event, which takes place on Thursday 6 September in Europe. For full details, see previous entries concerning Austria, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.

There are some tickets left for the UK & Europe premiere at London’s Leicester Square, which is where David will be, but I don’t expect them to be there for long.

If you’ll be going to Leicester Square and want to meet fellow fans before the event, please see details of the meet-up that is arranged from 5PM at the Imperial pub on Leicester Street. Everyone is welcome, so do add your name to the list.

And please do keep clicking the button below to vote this the Best Music Blog. I am open to bribery. (I’m not really.)

Remember That Night DVD (2007).With so many of you attending the UK & Europe premiere of ‘Remember That Night: David Gilmour Live at The Royal Albert Hall’ on Thursday 6 September at London’s Leicester Square, I thought you might welcome a dedicated space to arrange a pre-show get-together.

Everyone is very welcome, so don’t be shy. If you know of a good place to meet for a drink before the event, send us your suggestions. Or, when a venue is agreed upon, just drop in on the evening and join in. A warm welcome is guaranteed to all.

Two suggestions so far, courtesy of Howard, are:

- The Imperial, 5 Leicester Street, WC2H 7BL and
- The Moon Under Water, 28 Leicester Square, WC2H 7LE.

5PM seems like a good time to start, perhaps to get a few pints in before making your way across to the Odeon? Thoughts, please.

More thorough plans can be drawn up (directions for those that need them, a fixed meeting point for all, etc.).

Please note that e-mail addresses will not be published. I will only publish a recognised venue and an approximate time.

Please keep your questions for David rolling in. There have been some very good ones. Just please be sure to leave yours at the right place… Say, here? If it ends up anywhere else, it won’t count.

I only want questions for the North American premiere this week. I’ll take questions for the European event all next week, so bear with me. You’ll have a full week to submit your question and as much consideration as the current batch of questions are receiving, so your patience could pay off.

Thank you all very much for nominating, and voting, us the Best Music Blog in BT’s annual Digital Music Awards. It’s very kind of you to do so. Should you get the crazy urge, you can vote each day, which means that you won’t be able to avoid the snazzy pink button until voting closes on 30 September.

You can also help make it a DavidGilmour.com double, by voting us Best Official Music Site.

With that out of the way (God, I feel so dirty), here’s the latest from Phil Manzanera.

I’d read in an interview last year that you met David through your older brother. David agreed to meet to lend advice on getting started in the music business. What are your memories of that meeting and your initial impressions of him? (Buffalo Phil)

It was 1968 and I’d just turned 17. I distinctly remember the Italian restaurant and this person that looked identical to the David sitting on the stool on the cover of ‘Ummagumma’. Neither of us can remember what we spoke about, but David says it must have been good because I ended up in Roxy Music four years later.

Were you a fan of the Floyd 25 years ago? (Sylvie)

Damn right… and well before.

When did you work with David for the first time? (Ina)

1987. We worked together writing on a couple of tracks for Pink Floyd’s ‘Momentary Lapse of Reason’ album. One track, called ‘One Slip’, ended up on the album.

I was wondering if there was any particular reason why you didn’t dig out ‘One Slip’ for the tour, as you co-wrote it with David? (Jonathan)

No room on the list.

Could you compare the making of ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ with the making of ‘On an Island’? I mean, how is it different to work with Floyd’s Gilmour and solo Gilmour? (Adriano Capeto)

No different, it’s the same person.

Remember That Night DVD (2007).IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: EXTRA VENUE (17/08/07)

One extra venue is to be added to the list for Sweden: Nynäshamn.

It has not been added to the FHP website yet, but please click here for booking details.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: DIGITAL MUSIC AWARDS (14/08/07)

We’ve once again been nominated for the Best Music Blog award at BT’s annual DMAs.

If you’d like to vote for us, please click the button below (ignoring the way it says “Vote for me!”, as your vote is obviously recognition of each and every person that contributes here).

Voting closes on 30 September. The winner will be announced on 2 October.

Thank you.

Our very patient friends in Sweden have been waiting for this news for a while now, so I’m very happy to be able to inform you that the cinematic premiere of ‘Remember That Night’ will be shown in the following 13 areas:

Åseda, Boxholm, Emmaboda, Filipstad, Gislaved, Gusum, Haparanda, Höör, Kallhäll, Lammhult, Lövånger, Söråker and Tomelilla.

Please click here for more on individual venues.

Tickets cost 190 SEK. I’ll have details on how to order soon.

This event is on the evening of Thursday 6 September.

You get 85-minutes of concert footage from David’s forthcoming DVD, ‘Remember That Night’, in glorious High Definition. David will also be performing one song live, as well as participating in a Q&A… which you can be involved in. This will be transmitted, live, via satellite from London’s Leicester Square.

This is all I know for now, so please continue to be patient. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you anything else until further details have been finalised, but there will be an update for Sweden this week – with the possibility of more venues being added to the above list.

I’m taking questions for the North American Q&A this week, but will invite questions from fans in Europe (or anyone who will be attending this event in any European cinema) next week.

Tickets are still available for participating cinemas in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, including the UK & Europe premiere at London’s Leicester Square.

The chatroom will be open between 10AM and 12PM tomorrow.

abbey_blog.jpg

As you may have come across an incorrect story about a certain live DVD on some of the fansites today (possibly proving that I was right to liken fansites to tabloids?), then I hope you have seen the true story over on the Latest News page.

In short, there is to be a special edition ‘On An Island’ CD which comes with a bonus DVD of the six songs that made up the AOL Sessions (still available to watch online, by the way) plus ‘Astronomy Domine’, filmed at Abbey Road recently.

So, that means live versions of ‘On An Island’, ‘This Heaven’, ‘Smile’, ‘Take A Breath’, ‘High Hopes’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’ from New York, plus ‘Astronomy Domine’ from London’s famous recording studio.

This will be available, for a limited time, from 20 November across Europe and the following day across North America.

If it’s just the live DVD that you’re after, then we’ll have a limited quantity available from this website from the day of release. Details to follow, so please don’t ask.

By the way, we didn’t win any BT Digital Music awards on Tuesday. To see who did, click here. The blog finished in third place (and DavidGilmour.com in 21st), which is pretty good considering our very late entry into the competition. Our thanks again to all who voted.

Don’t forget, there’s a chat tomorrow at 10AM (UK time) where you can discuss all of the above and more. Hope you can make it.

62740037_blog.jpgThanks for voting on our latest poll. The winners are announced tomorrow, so we shall see if 71% of you are right to be so optimistic about our chances of winning the BT award for Best Music Blog.

More famous feet for you now. Here’s the latest pair of shoes for you to identify.

We were amazed by the response to these photos last week…

Can you tell us whose shoes these are and also include a little-known fact about this person for all to share?

There’s a chat today at 8:30PM (UK time) and there might be one tomorrow at 4PM (UK time), too. As always, please check the calendar for chatroom opening times.

fifth_blog.jpg

Thanks for voting for your favourite photographs. Voting is now complete and shown above is the fifth most popular, as chosen by you, taken by Polly in Munich’s Königsplatz on 29 July (Gallery 19 #11). It polled 10% of a very close vote.

As you know, Polly took hundreds – probably thousands – of photographs whilst on tour and many of these pictures make up our Galleries section. The top four fan favourites will be revealed soon.

The results of the BT People’s Choice Awards are out next week. You’ve already given us your opinions on whether or not you thought we were right to put ourselves forward, but if you’d like to vote on whether you think we have a chance of winning the award for either Best Music Blog or Best Music Site, do let us know via our latest poll.

(You can anonymously vote “Don’t care” if you were too polite to tell us that last week.)

That’s all for this week. You’ll have to wait until Monday for more shoes, sorry. We hope you can stand the suspense…

Those were indeed David’s shoes yesterday, so well done if you guessed right and thanks for all the interesting facts.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

At the risk of selling out, I hereby announce that ‘we’ve’ (well, it was nothing to do with me) today entered the blog so that it belatedly stands a chance of winning the BT Digital Music Awards’ People’s Choice Award for Best Music Blog.

As you’ve probably already noticed over on the Latest News page, DavidGilmour.com is also competing for the title of Best Music Site.

To vote for either, or both, all you need to do is click the snazzy button (the one above if you want to cast your vote for Best Music Blog, the one on the homepage if you want to nominate DavidGilmour.com for the Best Music Site award) and enter your name and e-mail address.

Do let us know how you rate our chances of winning. Even more interestingly, let us know what you think of the decision to forward ourselves for consideration.
