It’s the wrong side of the weekend, regrettably, but The Blog is back at long last. I hope you like the new look and features.

Thank you for sticking with me while these changes were made. They should all be self-explanatory; however, if you have any problems or questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know of them.

You’ll notice that we now have our own calendar for chats and birthdays, so do let me know yours.

There’s also a gallery made up of your contributions, be they photos or arty creations. Thanks again for all that you have submitted. I look forward to the next batch.

The previous posts are now open, should anyone wish to pass comment on Guitar World’s Fifteenth Annual Readers’ Poll or my Hot 100 nominations. Did you give them a listen? I’d love to know if you voted and who you voted for.

If you want to stay here instead, maybe you could let us all know what you’ve been up to this past month to help me test things out. That said, I’ve been keeping up with many of you thanks to Twitter, which is always entertaining.

The chatroom will be open tomorrow – from 16:00 (UK) – so please drop by if you have the time. If you haven’t visited before, now’s the perfect opportunity to register. Everything you need to know about the chatroom is laid out in my (hopefully) easy-to-follow guide. Just click the link at the top of the page.

And finally, apologetically, for those who had been following The Blog’s feed, I hope you won’t mind subscribing to the new one, as the old one is no more.

Bev's cats, Suzie and BlackieI’m sure you can think of some captions for this one. (Well, you did ask for more cats…)

Meet Bev’s darlings, Suzie and Blackie.

I don’t know why they’re printing out photos of David. If the ladies call themselves ‘Gilmourettes’, maybe they just wanted to get in on the act as ‘Gilmourauders’. You know what cats are like.

And just look at Suzie’s eyes. An evil genius if ever I saw one.

Thanks for sharing, Bev.

The chatroom is open between 16:00 and 18:00 (UK) today.

If you missed David on BBC Radio 2 last night, you can – hopefully – listen again here or here. Comments about the programme to be left at the previous post, please.

Pawel with his signed copy of 'On an Island'

Here’s November’s. (Yes, just 29 days until Christmas, folks…)

It’s the very well-read Pawel, with his signed copy of ‘On an Island’.

Thanks for sending it in, Pawel.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do have a look at the new GdaĊ„sk microsite. Comments welcome.

Also, if you’re in the States, you can catch ‘Live in GdaĊ„sk’ – and lots more – as part of VH1’s all-day Pink Floyd Thanksgiving fest. That’s from 11:00 (EST).

Other programmes include the ‘Which One’s Pink?’ documentary, The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story, a Classic Albums special on the making of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, footage from the ‘P.U.L.S.E’ DVD and ‘The Wall’ film. Nothing that you haven’t seen before, I expect, but still.

There are also plenty of the usual repeats coming up. Please see the calendar for those.

Tracy's dogs, Fancy and LucyFurther proof that dogs are a fan’s best friend…

Fancy and Lucy, resplendent in their Pink Floyd T-shirts.

Thanks for sharing this cute picture with us, Tracy.

The chatroom is open, closing today at 13:00 (UK) sharp. Newcomers are very welcome and I’d like to say how nice it’s been to see so many new ‘faces’ as of late.

If you’re thinking of joining in, please do. Don’t be shy, everyone’s very friendly and the topic of discussion varies like you would not believe.

Please read this first, which should tell you all you need to know; from how to register, to how to request a password reminder, if you’ve forgotten yours.

Sander's dog, Einstein

After thinking of all those striking, thought-provoking and inspiring album covers, I couldn’t resist setting aside some space for the very worst ones. Thanks for twisting my arm, Jeremy.

But before you send in lists of your most loathed cover art (no more than ten true shockers, please), here’s Sander’s beautiful dog, Einstein.

Glad to see that he likes your backstage pass from GdaĊ„sk, Sander. It looks really good on him.

More photos of your pets to follow this week, so, if you have one to share, please do get it online and let us know where we can find it.

Bidding on the (Mexican) Fender Stratocaster – hand-painted by Gerald Scarfe and signed by David, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright – currently stands at £16,000.

The auction closes on Friday at the new time of 17:00 (UK). Proceeds will benefit the UK charity for the homeless, Crisis.

Barbara's dog, Hunter Beaudreaux

This is Barbara’s dog, Hunter Beaudreaux, who was adopted by Barbara after his original family lost everything thanks to Hurricane Katrina.

He’s lovely, Barbara. Thanks for sending your picture in.

If your pet will pose for a photo, and doesn’t mind you sneaking in something DG-related, we’d love to see your furry, feathered or flakey friend here. Just get your picture online and include its URL with your comment.

Don’t forget that extended ‘Live in GdaĊ„sk’ on VH1 Classic (US-only) tomorrow, from 17:00 (EST)…

Nor your last chance in the UK – unless you’re in Wales* – to see the final part of ‘The Story of the Guitar’ (on TV, anyway): BBC4, Friday, 23:00 (UK).

* It’s on BBC2 Wales on Sunday 26 October at 23:20 (UK).

Johnnie and his new David Gilmour StratHere’s the first of our bloggers to own the David Gilmour Stratocaster.

Thanks, Johnnie. Your comments after the best part of a week spent getting a feel for your new guitar are very welcome.

If you’ve ordered one, we’d love to hear from you (not least to find out if your book was autographed, as it should have been). If you’ve played one in-store, how was it?

If you haven’t visited Fender’s microsite yet, it tells you everything you could possibly wish to know about this guitar, including its history in timeline form and, of course, where you can get your hands on one.

The Mexican Strat, painted by Gerald Scarfe, signed by Pink Floyd and being auctioned in aid of Crisis, by the way, is currently at £15,500. Bidding ends on 31 October at 11:00 (UK).

The chatroom is open today from 15:00 (UK). Everyone is welcome. There’s another chat on Wednesday, this time from 13:00 (UK), if that suits you better.

'Paul Sexton and Guy Pratt

Just as the month is drawing to a close, here’s one for September: our very own Paul Sexton with Guy Pratt.

Thanks for sharing it with us, Paul.

If you missed David talking to Guy on Planet Rock over the weekend, by the way, you can still tune in until the week is through. Simply click LISTEN NOW, followed by Last 7 Days: Guy Pratt and you’ll see details of the GdaĊ„sk special directly underneath.

If you didn’t miss it, have already said all that you wish to say about it, and have nothing much left to say about anything of relevance, the chatroom is open tomorrow – yes, that’s Tuesday – between 15:00 and 17:00 (UK).

'David, and black Strat, at the Odeon (Leicester Square, London, September 2007)If you haven’t yet seen it, Fender’s microsite for the David Gilmour Stratocaster is now up, so have a butcher’s.

A break from the fine Piotr Tarasewicz GdaĊ„sk shots for today. This one’s another of Frank’s, from Leicester Square last year.

You too could be striking that very same pose with your own black Strat soon (ish). Probably not a good idea to try striking it in Leicester Square, though. You know what crowds are like.

Thanks again, Frank.

Just a reminder that there’s more from Later… with Jools Holland tomorrow night on BBC2, as well as an hour from the GdaĊ„sk gig and a 30-minute documentary (on BBC4).

That might interest a few more of you now that many poor souls are still waiting for their postie to deliver their five-disc bundle of joy. (You’ll have yours before Friday night, I’m sure.)

For those of you thinking of downloading the album from iTunes, now you’ll only get ‘Wot’s…’ if you’re in Europe. (Sorry!)

The word is that the new release date for Poland is Monday. Please take that with a pinch of salt, just in case. It does sound wildly optimistic, no offence to EMI Poland.

Saturday is still the all-important day for Australia, and Monday for France and the vinyl.

By the way, SoundStage Direct’s price for the LPs is now $98.99 (US).

A beautiful sunset, courtesy of RobHere’s August’s, courtesy of Rob, who says it reminds him of ‘Where We Start’.

What do you think? Click for a better look.

Very nice, Rob. Thanks for sharing.

You can hear three songs (no, not ‘Echoes’…) from ‘Live in GdaĊ„sk’ on Planet Rock tonight from 22:00 (UK). Listen online (either live or later, on demand) or, if you’re in the UK, through your television: channels 0110 and 924 on Sky and Virgin respectively.

The Uncut magazine mentioned yesterday is now in the Press archive, so have a read.

And just to follow up on that Indie store promotion: Fingerprints – of Long Beach, California – is one such store that will ship to many parts of the world. If you really, really want that exclusive ‘Wot’s… Uh The Deal’ CD, do consider them. I’ll have their prices and shipping rates next week, so please don’t contact them to ask for them.

That’s all for another week. More on Monday, when it will be September and we’ll all be inching that little bit nearer to the release of ‘Live in GdaĊ„sk’, in all its forms.

Until then, have a lovely weekend.

Rachael outside the Paramount Theatre, Oakland, April 2006This is the one I picked as my favourite for July.

Possibly one of the youngest fans to attend an ‘On an Island’ concert anywhere – with mum, Rachael.

Thanks for sharing one of your snaps from the Paramount gig with us, Rachael.

Our Flashback series continues this weekend, as we’ll be looking back to the concert at Klam.

If you were fortunate enough to have tickets for that, or any of the summer shows, please have your stand-out memories at the ready, because we’d love to reminisce with you.

As usual, there will be a post for each gig, and you can still leave your comments for the ones we’ve already covered; just use the Archives drop-down menu on the right to locate the month you need, or select ‘Tour’ under Categories and scroll ’til you need scroll no more.

If you missed today’s chat, the chatroom will re-open on Monday at 12:00 (UK).

Until then, have a good weekend.

Kastellorizo, as photographed by Comfortably DumbHere’s June’s.

This beautiful image was captured by Comfortably Dumb (Comfy, if you chat with us). It’s the Greek island of Kastellorizo, known as Megisti in ancient times. You’ll know it better as Castellorizon, one of the inspirations behind David’s ‘On an Island’ album.

Do click the picture for a closer look.

Keep your creative juices flowing and your cameras snapping. If you’ve been anywhere that you were somehow able to connect to David and ‘On an Island’, we want to see where you’ve been and what you’ve been up to. Just get it online and let me know the URL.

We’d love to see your favourite holiday snaps, if you’ve ever visited Kastellorizo.

Your artistic creations and pictures of your pets modelling tour merchandise are also most welcome. If there’s a place for it here, I’ll find it.

Thanks again to Comfy for sharing this stunning scene.

Who wants to go there right now for a week of tranquil bliss?

Gilmourettes in London for the North American premiere of 'Remember That Night'

My favourite fan photo for the merry month of May is this one.

That’s Becky, Melissa and Tracy, in London for the North American premiere of ‘Remember That Night’, last year.

Love those T-shirts, ladies!

If you have a snap to share, please get it online and let me know where I can find it. There are many more to come, but additional offerings are always welcome.

I’m sure that we’d all like to know the stories behind the photos, too…

Angelo and David at Abbey Road Studios

My favourite fan photo for this month is this one, sent in by Angelo.

When everyone was still trying to get over the shock of hearing that surprise ‘Echoes’ at the ‘Live from Abbey Road’ recording, what did David decide to do? Walk up those blue, blue steps to further surprise the Blog contest winners with a greeting, that’s what.

Thanks for sharing your moment with us, Angelo.

Have you got a favourite snap to show off? It can be your pet hamster gnawing on your ‘On An Island’ songbook, or your crazy Gran posing with your pimped-up guitar; as long as it’s vaguely relevant to David, we’d love to see it. Simply get it online, making sure you include its URL with your comment.

Many more of your photos, and artwork, to come.

The chatroom will be open tomorrow from 13:00 (UK), if you’re interested.

Violet's cat, clearly enjoying David's 'On An Island' CDTwo years ago this very weekend, the ‘On An Island’ tour rolled into that wonderful town – Chicago – for two nights at the Rosemont Theatre (yes, it’s Theatre, not Theater).

Your thoughts, if you were in attendance, please. We’d love to know what you remember most clearly from these shows.

If you wish to enjoy the initial reaction to these concerts all over again, there were some great comments submitted immediately after both Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s, performances.

And, for a change, here’s a photo of a cat. (Thanks for sending in your picture, Violet.)

Have a good weekend, everyone.

New York's Radio City Music Hall announces David's April 2006 concertsIt’s random nonsense for you today, as you seem to like it so much.

As we’ve seen many times before, it’s often amusing to pose a casual, perhaps bizarre – and almost certainly pointless – question every now and then. Your answers entertain, intrigue, and sometimes even kick off a jolly good debate.

So, let’s kick off with this one:

If you could go back in time and attend just three concerts, which would you choose and why?

Please choose:

1. A David Gilmour concert
2. A Pink Floyd concert
3. A concert by any other artist

There’ll be one of these each week from now on, so enjoy them, if you can.

David and the band were Stateside two years ago today, getting ready for the first of two shows at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, which we’ll fondly recall tomorrow.

Many thanks to Angelo for providing today’s photo.

Werner with Igor Sklyarov and his band in Venice

My chosen fan photo for the month of March is this one, courtesy of Werner.

Werner, seen here on the left, met Igor Sklyarov (second left) and his band on the streets of Venice on 12 August 2006.

Igor, or course, was invited by David to perform on stage after David had spotted him busking.

Thanks to everyone for forwarding a photo for consideration. I enjoyed seeing them, and will be showing off many more as the weeks roll by.

If you have one and want to see it here, get it online and include the URL with your comment.

Thanks again for sharing this with us, Werner.

The chatroom is closed today, but will be open tomorrow from 13:00 (UK).

The assorted ‘hidden’ extras from the ‘Remember That Night’ DVD are still being discussed here, by the way.

Readers of The Blog – and I hope you’re leaving a dramatic pause before you speak its name, now that it’s capitalised, by the way – know all-too-well just how positively nutty some of you are when it comes to all things Floydian.

So, as a tribute to your nuttiness, I thought it would raise a titter or two, maybe even three or four, to share regular examples of your most cherished ‘On An Island’ experiences.

It could be a photo of your good self getting ready for one of the concerts or cinema events, resplendent in your favourite DG T-shirt, proudly clutching some sort of prized paraphernalia while your friends stand around making oh-so amusing hand gestures behind you. Alas, we all get dragged into a corny group shot every once in a while, whether we like it or not.

Did you get a tattoo in memory of the album? Were you lucky enough to meet any of the band members? If so, were you able to coax them into showing off their pearly whites?

What of the fan get-togethers? There have been a few of those.

Have you photographed your pet in the DG beanie hat (own up) or treated your car to an Island-inspired make-over? Blue is a great colour, you know…

Come to think of it, have you tried posing behind the ‘About Face’ LP, Sleeveface-style? If so, I do expect to see evidence, but that has to be worthy of a post of its own. If not, give it a go and be ready for the call; there are a lot of rainy days coming up, apparently.

I’ll feature my favourite whenever the urge overwhelms me.

You need to get it online using an image hosting site (Google “free image hosting” for about 11,496,273 suggestions) and point me towards it, so be sure to provide its URL with your comment.

That’s the URL for the photo, by the way, not an entire gallery of shots. Help me out here.

No e-mails, no attachments, and no more than one per person, please. There’ll be other chances to submit more.

No links will be published, by the way. You’ll just have to wait to see if your shot randomly appears as a featured photo over the coming weeks.

There will be a new post on Monday, but no comments will be published until Tuesday, so don’t you go worrying about sackings or resignations, missing manhole covers or spontaneous vacations.

Oh, and don’t bother sending any examples of your concert photography. Some fans annoyed the band with their flashing cameras quite enough during the tour, so please spare us. We’ve also had that discussion before, so let’s leave it in the archives where it belongs; you’ve got them, we know you’ve got them, but we really don’t want to see them.

Above all, please be sure to get the permission of whoever is in the photo with you before sharing it, just in case they don’t wish to see their gurning features on David’s blog.

Have a good weekend, all, and thank you very much for the birthday greetings. (If you want to leave a belated message for David, please leave it here.)
