If you were unable to catch David and the band performing on Later… with Jools Holland back in September, and haven’t discovered the performance anywhere online since, part of the broadcast footage is now available for your guilt-free viewing pleasure over on the ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ page.

‘The Blue’ (from ‘On an Island’) can be found there, as well as some chat.

Although it really does seem like only yesterday, this was originally televised on 26 September 2008.

Other performances on the celebrated show, or its New Year’s special, Hootenanny, include appearances with BB King (in December 1997), Paul McCartney (in November 1999) and Mica Paris (in November 2001). Not forgetting, of course, the visit in May during the 2006 tour, where David Crosby and Graham Nash particularly shone.

Have I forgotten any others, and do you have a favourite?

Oh, and if you were hopeful of breaking news about a forthcoming appearance, I do apologise.

It’s the Grammys on Sunday. As you know, David has been nominated for Best Instrumental Rock Performance (for the GdaÅ„sk version of ‘Castellorizon’).

There will be a live stream of the non-televised portion of the night’s events from LA – the pre-telecast – over at GRAMMY.com, launching at 16:00 (Eastern).

That’s 13:00 (Pacific), 21:00 (UK).

This will be available on demand throughout February, if you’ve better things to do than watch hours of build-up and only really want to see how David fares.

You can watch the ceremony itself live on CBS in the States. Check your TV listings for details.

In the UK, ITV2 will be showing over two hours of highlights on Monday night, from 21:00 (UK).

Needless to say, you’ll have heard if it’s worth tuning in before then.

Have a good weekend, everyone, and Happy Birthday to Tom for tomorrow.

Sunday Times critics and NPR listeners alike went for the eponymous debut from Fleet Foxes, while Rolling Stone chose the very awkward-sounding TV on the Radio. (What is it with these hip young things and their clumsy names?)

You might have spotted David enjoying Elbow on Later… with Jools Holland back in September; they won last year’s Mercury Prize for their 2008 release.

Whether your preference is for the most recent offerings from Metallica, Oasis, Sigur Rós or Coldplay (good, honest names, those), or the debuts from Duffy or Bon Iver, I’d like to know which you consider to be the best album released in 2008 without a GdaÅ„sk in its title.

For me, that would have to be Neil Diamond’s very beautiful ‘Home Before Dark’.

I don’t think 2008 was one of music’s finest, do you?

The year’s best songs next week… and a Happy Birthday to Ash.

Remember That Night DVD

I’m preaching to the converted here, I know, but someone might like to know that 75 glorious minutes from ‘Remember That Night’ are being shown again on UK TV today (or tomorrow, if you haven’t gone to bed yet): at 09:00 and again at 16:00 on Sky Arts 1 (channel 256) and Sky Arts HD (channel 258).

Sky Arts 1 is also available to Virgin Media (XL) customers now and can be found on channel 284.

If you spot anything of interest coming up in the TV listings, particularly if it’s DG-related, but even if it’s not, please don’t keep it to yourself.

The chatroom will be open later, so you’re more than welcome to call in if you’ve nothing better to do between the hours of 14:00 and 16:00 (UK).

Pawel with his signed copy of 'On an Island'

Here’s November’s. (Yes, just 29 days until Christmas, folks…)

It’s the very well-read Pawel, with his signed copy of ‘On an Island’.

Thanks for sending it in, Pawel.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do have a look at the new GdaÅ„sk microsite. Comments welcome.

Also, if you’re in the States, you can catch ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ – and lots more – as part of VH1’s all-day Pink Floyd Thanksgiving fest. That’s from 11:00 (EST).

Other programmes include the ‘Which One’s Pink?’ documentary, The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story, a Classic Albums special on the making of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, footage from the ‘P.U.L.S.E’ DVD and ‘The Wall’ film. Nothing that you haven’t seen before, I expect, but still.

There are also plenty of the usual repeats coming up. Please see the calendar for those.

Barbara's dog, Hunter Beaudreaux

This is Barbara’s dog, Hunter Beaudreaux, who was adopted by Barbara after his original family lost everything thanks to Hurricane Katrina.

He’s lovely, Barbara. Thanks for sending your picture in.

If your pet will pose for a photo, and doesn’t mind you sneaking in something DG-related, we’d love to see your furry, feathered or flakey friend here. Just get your picture online and include its URL with your comment.

Don’t forget that extended ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ on VH1 Classic (US-only) tomorrow, from 17:00 (EST)…

Nor your last chance in the UK – unless you’re in Wales* – to see the final part of ‘The Story of the Guitar’ (on TV, anyway): BBC4, Friday, 23:00 (UK).

* It’s on BBC2 Wales on Sunday 26 October at 23:20 (UK).

The cover of the 2005 DVD, 'A Tribute to The King by Scotty Moore & Friends'

David performed the Elvis number, ‘Don’t', at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in June 2001. It’s an extra on the ‘David Gilmour in Concert’ DVD, and also available as ‘A Tribute to Leiber and Stoller’.

Later, in December 2004, it was performed again at Abbey Road, as Scotty Moore and Friends paid tribute to The King.

Just for fun, which other Elvis songs do you think David would do well (keeping in mind that he’d be given artistic licence to present them however he deemed fit)?

Of course, the reason I ask is because it allows me to remind fans in the States that you can catch the Abbey Road performance of ‘Don’t’ on RAVE today at 13:00 (EST).

David had a fair stab at ‘All Shook Up’ as part of his 1999 collaborations with Paul McCartney, most notably at Liverpool’s famous Cavern, albeit providing backing vocals instead of lead.

How about Elvis’ take on Bob Dylan’s beautiful ‘Tomorrow Is A Long Time’? Or a slowed-down acoustic ‘Suspicious Minds’, complete with trademark lap steel solo, à la ‘High Hopes’?

If you get the urge, come and chat – the chatroom opens at 13:00 (UK).

Blog Poll: Have you seen the extra live concert footage from Gdańsk, not included on the DVD? 26% vote 'Yes', 74% vote 'No'.

You have three more opportunities to see the extended ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ on VH1 Classic in the States this week: at 01:00 (EST) this morning, at 17:00 (EST) on Thursday, and at 19:00 (EST) on Saturday.

Please check those times for your own peace of mind, as there is some confusion over listings.

If you’ve seen it already, what did you think of the additional tracks?

Extra songs included in the broadcast are ‘Speak To Me’, ‘Breathe’, ‘Time’, ‘Breathe (Reprise)’, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’.

If you haven’t seen it, do set your TiVo.

Who has TiVo, or something like it, anyway? I’d love to know.

Still with the USA… Coming up on RAVE this week, ‘Scotty Moore and Friends: A Tribute to the King of Rock and Roll’. That’s Wednesday afternoon at 13:00 (EST). David performs ‘Don’t’.

Then, on Saturday 25 October, an hour-and-a-half from ‘Remember That Night’, starting at 17:00 (EST). It’s repeated in the early hours of Sunday morning – at 03:00 (EST).

Harder than the last, I imagine (if you can cast your mind back that far), today I’d like to know your ten favourite albums from the Seventies.

However, to make it a little easier, please vote whether the first half of the decade (1970-1974) was better than the second (1975-1979) and select a maximum of ten – that’s right, ten – albums from each half (so you have 20 in total, enough for most people to trawl through, I’m sure).

Alternatively, one list of ten would do. Maybe as two lists of five, as I have done?

Do include the year, as it would be interesting to see which is most-often mentioned.

I have not included the obvious ones, partly because they’d only cancel each other out.

The chatroom opens at 14:00 (UK), closing on time to catch the Q Awards on Q TV at 16:00 (UK).

Blog Poll: Which was best: the first half of the Seventies, or the second? 72% vote '1970-1974', 28% vote '1975-1979'.

- Black Sabbath, ‘Paranoid’ (1971)
- The Doors, ‘L.A. Woman’ (1971)
- George Harrison, ‘All Things Must Pass’ (1970)
- The Who, ‘Who’s Next’ (1971)
- Neil Young, ‘After the Gold Rush’ (1970)

- Kate Bush,’The Kick Inside’ (1978)
- Bob Dylan, ‘Blood on the Tracks’ (1975)
- Bob Dylan, ‘Desire’ (1976)
- The Eagles, ‘Hotel California’ (1976)
- ‘Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ (1976)

Q Magazine awarded David an Outstanding Contribution to Music award at yesterday’s Q Awards, which he dedicated to the late Richard Wright.

You can hear what David had to say as he accepted his award, here.

You’ll find a link to Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka Highlights – Monday – 18:00 on the right, under LISTEN AGAIN. You may wish to jump to 01:10:00.

You can also catch the awards ceremony on Q TV every day this week. See the calendar for details.

Well done, David.

Blog Poll: Do you care to read reviews? 74% vote 'Yes', 26% vote 'No'.

There have been reviews a-plenty added to the archives this week, if you’re interested.

Alternatively, if you’ve got your ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ – or maybe just a vivid imagination and unwavering faith – and can write one of those snappy one-line reviews that you see on the back of DVDs and books (there’s probably a name for them, but I’ll be damned if I can think of it, hence the hopeful squashing together of words that make up this post’s title), don’t be shy. Some of us could do with a laugh.

Linda’s “It rocks a big one” will take some beating, mind you.

Remember: less is more and it should fit on the CD cover. (Those of you still without the deluxe set have probably pictured that large, smooth box quite enough, right? I don’t want to make it harder for you. Or easier, depending on which way you look at it.)

Besides, it needs to stand out alongside someone else’s five star rating and another’s unnecessary exclamation marks.

So, very briefly, sum up the album in a way that would suitably intrigue those who hang around shops, idly browsing, during their lunch hour.

Something else to look forward to on UK TV: the three-part ‘Imagine’ series, presented by Alan Yentob and entitled ‘The Story of the Guitar’, which David has contributed to, starts this Sunday at 22:20 (UK) on BBC1.

David on stage in Gdańsk, by Piotr Tarasewicz

A quick round-up of reminders.

First, the Planet Rock/Guy Pratt interview you were expecting tonight is now on Sunday at 17:00 (UK). Listen online. If you’re in the UK, you can also listen through your TV or DAB digital radio.

Before that, you might be interested in a radio special – which includes an interview – from Belgium, which starts on Sunday morning at 09:00 (CET), on Classic 21.

There’s more from Later… with Jools Holland tonight, as part of a BBC night dedicated to David. That starts at 21:10 (UK) on BBC4 with an hour from the GdaÅ„sk concert, plus the ‘GdaÅ„sk Diary’ DVD extra, followed by another documentary: ‘The Pink Floyd Story…’ (originally broadcast in 1994).

Turn over to BBC2 or BBC HD immediately after that, as David will be performing ‘The Blue’ and ‘Remember a Day’ for Jools, from 23:35 (UK).

The BBC4 programmes are repeated in the early hours of Saturday morning – from 01:30 (UK).

If you can’t wait for your next fix, here is something from New Zealand’s 3 News, something from today’s Sun newspaper, and, if you haven’t heard it yet, last weekend’s US radio special in full.

The Blog’s now closed for the weekend, but will be back on Monday.

'Richard Wright, by Liz

David will still be appearing on Later… with Jools Holland tomorrow night (and also on Friday night). He has changed his songs and will now perform ‘Remember a Day’ and ‘The Blue’ instead. He will also be talking with Jools.

Please see the calendar for times.

‘Remember a Day’ was written and sung by Richard Wright, who died last week. The song features on Pink Floyd’s second album, ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’.

Thank you, Liz, for the lovely portrait.

‘Live in Gdań„sk’ is out today across Europe, and also in Brazil, Israel, Mexico and New Zealand.

Tickets are still available for cinemas in the States tonight, if you want to see the Gdań„sk concert. Go to The Bigger Picture website and click the graphic at the foot of the page. When you see that image full-screen, you should also notice a link for THEATERS AND SHOWTIMES on the left, which will tell you everything you need to know about where this one-night-only event is taking place.

‘Live in Gdań„sk’ is out tomorrow in Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and the US.

Frank and Steve DiStanislao at Leicester Square, 6 September 2007

As difficult as it may be to believe, many of you were loitering around Leicester Square this time last year, waiting for the European premiere of ‘Remember That Night’.

If you were there and have anything to say on the matter, please go ahead.

And if you were watching in cinemas around Europe, we’d also love to hear from you.

Today’s photo, kindly sent in by Frank, is of him meeting Steve DiStanislao inside the Odeon.

Thank you for sharing it with us, Frank.

Sky Arts will be broadcasting 75 minutes from ‘Remember That Night’ tonight. So, if you’re a Sky customer, tune in to Sky Arts (channel 256) or Sky Arts HD (channel 257) from 21:00 (UK).

Last, but by no means least… If you’re still waiting for details on those US cinemas involved in the ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ premiere, all I can say is that the full list will be on the Latest News page as soon as possible.

Stevie in Gdańsk, 26 August 2006

Something you may already know about.

David will be performing ‘Astronomy Domine’, ‘Fat Old Sun’ and ‘This Heaven’ for Jools Holland’s ‘Later…’ programme, due for broadcast in the UK on Friday 26 September. He will also perform one song – live and also for ‘Later…’ – on Tuesday 23 September.

If you miss these performances, or just want to see them again and again, you should be able to watch both programmes for a whole week with BBC iPlayer the following week. This service is only available to fans in the UK.

However, sometimes the ‘Later…’ page at MySpace includes video, so keep an eye on that.

If either ‘Later…’ is coming up in your TV listings, do let us know when and where.

BBC4 will also have an hour from the GdaÅ„sk concert on Friday 26 September, plus half an hour from the documentary (one of the DVD extras, nothing that you won’t see if your ‘Live in GdaÅ„sk’ has the concert DVD, don’t worry).

This will also be available in HD.

That’s Friday 22 August and Monday 25 August – at midnight (local time).

So, if you’re in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, the Caribbean (but not Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands, sorry), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay or Venezuela, and if you get HBO Plus – enjoy. It’s always good to see David on TV.

Wherever you are, you can listen again to David’s Mermaid Theatre concert (from March 2006) from 22:00 (CET) tonight, courtesy of Belgian radio station, Classic 21.

Click here to listen live online (select >24k or, preferably, >128k from the menu bar).

Blog Poll: What did you think of the BBC's 'Seven Ages of Rock' programme, which covered Pink Floyd? 75% vote 'Good', 5% vote 'Bad' and 25% vote 'Pass'.…du Rock’.

Better known as ‘The Seven Ages of Rock’, the second programme in this BBC series is about to be broadcast once more in Belgium and Switzerland – and wherever else channels TSR2 and La Une can be received by cable or satellite.

The programme – entitled ‘White Light, White Heat: Art Rock, 1966-1980′ – includes a considerable portion reserved for discussion of, and footage from, Pink Floyd. David was interviewed for the programme, so that might be ‘new’ footage for you, as well as snippets of one or two early rarities. Click here for more on that.

That’s tonight, Sunday 13 July – on TSR2 – at 21:25 (CET), then Monday 14 July – on La Une – at 22:00 (CET).

As we’ve been talking about Syd all week, I’d be interested to hear how well you felt the programme explained his gradual retirement from the music industry and, indeed, the public eye. As one viewer noted on the BBC site: “Awful overview of the Syd Barrett story. Subjective twaddle, giving people the hyped-up myth they want to hear.”

Do you agree with this statement?

David performing at the Strat Pack concert, September 2004You might have noticed it mentioned here recently. Great timing by Sky Arts, because, if you’re in the UK, you can see David’s performance at the Strat Pack concert on TV tonight.

The 2004 benefit – available on DVD as ‘The Strat Pack: The 50th Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster’ – was in aid of
Nordoff-Robbins
, the UK’s largest provider of music therapy.

The concert alone raised some £175,000 for the charity and the DVD is very reasonably priced, if you’d like to help further – hint, hint.

Shot in high definition and recorded/mixed in full surround sound (in part by David), David performed ‘Marooned’, ‘Coming Back To Life’ and ‘Sorrow’. He even used his much-desired 0001 Strat.

That’s Sky Arts, channel 267, at 23:25 (UK) tonight.

It’s also available in HD on channel 268, and is repeated on both channels on Tuesday morning.

If you could organise a two-and-a-half hour celebration of Fender’s finest, who would you call, how long would you give them, and what would they play (songs and instruments, if you’re feeling really imaginative)?

Yes, it’s back to the realms of fantasy for this one.

David on the cover of Guitarra Total magazineSpanish magazine, Guitarra Total, has a six-page article about our David. Or his increasingly famous black Strat, to be more precise.

It’s available to buy, should you require your own glossy copy, in Spain, Portugal and Mexico.

If your Spanish is up to it, or if you just like looking at the pictures, please click the magazine cover.

Many thanks to Manel for kindly scanning and sending this article.

The chatroom is closed today, but will be open tomorrow between 09:00 and 11:00 (UK).

Don’t forget that part of ‘Remember That Night’ is on 3sat this afternoon…

And, as I know you’re wondering, I’m sorry to say that there is still no update on the Signature Strat. When there is one, details will be here ASAP.
